  1. As a foster carer I completely agree. But I wish you luck in finding a solution. As sad as it is for you and your family, maybe as Rebanne suggested you might have to consider rehoming the pup permanently. Just saw you agree with Rebanne.. Thanks for letting me know your perspective. Its nice to know how you feel about the situation as a foster carer. If I cannot find a pet friendly apartment to rent in the next few weeks I think rehoming the pup permanently may be the best option for the pup's sake.
  2. I mentioned in my post that unfortunately I dont have any friends and family who can take care of her. My family and I live together so we are all stuck in the same sticky situation... I am looking for an apartment in the inner west Sydney. I have called and asked most of the large real estate agents and they have told me that nothing pet friendly is available for rent. It is only permitted if you own the apartment... They told me that the law was changing to allow pets "soon" but cannot confirm a date... so it could be one year or two years down the track.
  3. Thanks for your advice Rebanne. I do want what's best for the dog so if that's the case I will have to consider rehoming her permanently... I am just so emotionally attached to her so cannot yet imagine of separating with her forever.
  4. I agree with cassie, your pup is at the stage where she needs to do some serious training & be mentally stimulated - this requires a lot of time & effort. She will bond very quickly to a new owner, & you will have no pressure to get your life straightened out within a time limit. Who knows what will happen economically with this new government? You may not be in a position to take her back in 12 months...... then what? 12months would be the absolute maximum but I am looking more towards 6months time frame. or it could be even less. You are right in the sense that you never know what will happen. And really, I want to try the best I can to make things work for the pup and I. all I want to do is try to find an apartment which allows pets which at this stage I havent found... Im hoping if I keep searching something will come up. Even a granny flat or something where me and my family and the dog can live in. You mentioned the dog will bond very quickly to a new owner, which I agree with... So do you think being in the situation I am in, it would be better for the puppy to find a new home???
  5. Maybe you are right... I didnt think of it from the other person's perspective... Sorry I was not imposing to be "cheeky" whatsoever. Yes, I am willing to pay for all the vet bills and food costs and maintenance costs. I feel I have posted this post very hastily without over thinking the potential carer's perspective. Sorry if my choice of words has offended you or mislead you in any way. That was not my intention...
  6. Hi Cassie, The first thing I did was contact her breeder and she said she will charge boarding fee, weekly, which right now I really cannot afford. For a few weeks is okay but for 6-12months it becomes very expensive. The other option I was given from her breeder was for her breeder to take her back then find her another home. But not temporary foster care
  7. Hi all, it's been a long time since I have logged on again on dol forums. After so much research into breeders etc, early this year I was finally able to get my first black and white english cocker pup who I named "Yoness" and we love her to bits. I cant thank this forum enough for the wealth of information it provides. It has educated me so much in so many ways. My puppy is A very happy merry, typical lovely cocker pup. So much energy perhaps because she is a puppy. She is very outgoing and loves EVERYONE. She is currently 10months old, very healthy and happy and spoilt with so much love from my family and I and we love her to bits. Unfortunately our family is going through a financially difficult time right now which we didnt depict our self in. We wouldve never purchased a puppy in the first place if we knew we were going to be financially difficult. It takes a lot of responsibility owning a dog and our family didnt take it lightly and still dont. It is a full time job just like being a parent and being financially stable is also one of the priorities we all knew was part of being a responsible pet owner. The financial state we are faced with right now was really sudden and unexpected and the conclusion is we are selling our house and moving into an apartment on rent and dear Yoness cannot come with us. We looked everywhere for apartments which will allow pets but was rejected and had to draw this final conclusion. We are having to move out fast within a month so I am trying to find a foster home for my dear beloved puppy for around 6months-1year until we find a place that allows pets. Right now we are rushed in to moving out and time is short so we cannot do much. I refuse to send her to a pound (never in a million years) and dont have any close friends or families who can take another dog in atm. I'm hoping someone on this forum can refer to their friends or family and possibly be of help. Ideally, I would love to visit my dog often but if the foster carer is not happy with that idea then I am happy to obide and make the visits less frequent. Perhaps once a month... Also to add, I am located in Sydney, NSW and would like to meet and get to know the potential foster carer of my puppy and introduce my puppy to them before anything. Please feel free to PM me if you would like more specific details of my puppy, or of anything. Im happy to answer any questions and be as detailed as possible. Please please please pass this message across to anyone you know if they may be of help. Thankyou so much...
  8. Cherylv, I would love to donate my food if they would accept it. Though I live in Sydney inner west so getting up to Central coast may be a problem...
  9. I also have around 3kg work of Supercoat puppy dry kibble as Ive switched my puppy to premium. Would rescue's or pounds accept this???
  10. Jules I think our puppies are going through the same phase!!! Yoness, who is 13weeks old now LOVES cardboard boxes, newspaper and the inside of toilet rolls. She rips them up into a million pieces and then must get a little pekish and decides to eat a few pieces... As you can see in the very corner, she also has decided that training pee pads are just as good as newspaper
  11. Totally agree with Donatella. I dont' think that you can ever care too much for your fur kid let alone anyone. Just because they don't feel the same value of companion animals/dogs does not mean they need to disregard yours. I hate how some people don't appreciate and value dogs as human companions and part of the family, instead treat it like some live accessory to have around. That is also the reason why there are so many of them who have temperament issues because they are uncared and unattended to, and end up in pounds. Even if I go by a few weeks low on groceries, I will always make sure my fur babies human grade meat and premium kibble is well stocked and on top of it!!!
  12. Most times I forget that I even have a tattoo until someone points it out because it's at the back of my lower neck so I never ever get to see it really. Mine says "La vita e bella" which means Life is Beautiful in Italian. Don't know why italian but just loved how it sounded and it just felt right. When I feel crap or am just having a bad day, I can always remind myself that life is beautiful(in it's own ways). Here's a relatively fresh pic of me and my puppy 2weeks ago!
  13. Oh bummer... Centennial Park may be a bit difficult for me transport wise as i don't drive/have a car .
  14. Hi Fbaudry! Do you mind if I ask where you take your cocker for obedience classes? I have a 12week old cocker girl who graduates her pup preschool tmrw and I was thinking of continue taking lessons in some basic obedience!
  15. Miss Matilda is just too cute!!! I have a black and white english cocker spaniel and it's so interesting to see the similarities and differences between the two breeds. So similar yet so different! I must admit, a black and tan cocker was right at the top of my list with the black and whites for colour preferences. Sometime down the track I'd love to own a black and tan cocker as I think it'd look adorable together with my bnw! How is Matilda settling in her new home? Puppyhood is soooo tiring, I just hope she will be a good girl and make things a lot easier for you. My girl Yoness is 12weeks old now and we are still wrestling with the house training everyday... Other than that, she is delightful ! You will love your cocker to bits!!!
  16. Misteri! He is just gorgeous This is my first time coming across the breed "Toller". Do they normally all come with pink noses? because it's just perfect! I think I'm in love
  17. Thanks for the kind offer DD though I will be out and about today so no one will be home for the good to be delivered to . I'll order mine online or get my boyfriend to drive me to marrickville sometime next week and buy direct! We live in strathfield so not too far at all
  18. For anyone interested, they are Aussie Pet Foods and are at 10 Shirlow Road, Marrickville. 02 8084 0353. healthypetsmeatsandtreats.com.au Thanks for the link DD! I'll be happy to place an order on some fresh meat and dried treats and see how it goes
  19. I am also located in Sydney and would be interested in the responses from this thread!
  20. She is an english cocker spaniel! We have no carpet, all timber floors throughout the entire house and I also vacuum every 2days but still there is a certain distinct doggy smell we never had before . It is faint enough that I can cover it up by burning some scented candles but still, I know it is there... Perhaps I need to start washing her weekly, including her bedding. I thought washing the dog with dog shampoo frequently was not so good for their coat and skin so have been putting it off and only rinsing her in water every few days. I have washed her with dog shampoo all up once in the past month I've had her. I also feed her mainly raw with kibble. I might need to change her kibble for a while and see if it helps! This is the fur baby of mine that is letting off a delightful new odour in our home
  21. Oh minimax, don't even get me started on Glasshouse candles. Absolute favourite candle of all times being the TAHAA - Vanilla caramel. YUM! but since they are expensive I only have them lit on special occasions.
  22. Goodmorning DOLers! It has already been 1month since Yoness, my little fur baby has entered into my life and I have to admit, ever since then, I have noticed a significant change in the smell inside my home The puppy is confined to my room at the moment and other members of my family have been saying my room significantly smells more "like dog". This is just after living with only ONE little puppy so I can't even imagine what it would be like for all you other DOLers who have multiple fur kids! So the question is, what do you all do to keep your house smelling nice and fragrant and not "like dog". Or do you just live with this unique doggy odour? I'll go first! - I have been buying HEAPS and HEAPS of candles from IKEA and "covering up" the smell more than eliminating it...
  23. She looks just adorable in that photo Jules❤3Cavs! How was your first night? Welcome to the sleepless world of puppyhood
  24. Congratulations on the long wait Jules❤3Cavs!!! Don't forget to update and post pics upon Miah's arrival!!!
  25. Wow already down to the last 3 days!!! I seem to be just as thrilled as you are! Yoness has been with us for almost 3weeks now and she is just full of energy and such a joy to have around. When I compare the photo of when she first arrived she has definitely gotten much bigger. It is amazing how fast puppies grow! One thing we are still working very hard on is house training. She goes outside to potty when I take her out every 1-2 hours but she is also more than happy to pee inside my room, anywhere other than her crate which is frustrating because she would show no signs of sniffing etc and randomly just go On the good note, Yoness absolutely LOVES everyone and would wag her tail vigorously and roll over for a tummy rub to every single person she would encounter. I must admit, sometimes I secretly get a teeny bit jealous and wished she reserved this overly affectionate side to me only This is a photo of Yoness 2 days ago all tangled up in her leash
