That's part of what the coroners recommended. It's one half of the whole. Took awhile, but we are half way there. -

Yep. Just ignore, there's really no point. I know I shouldn't respond, but I have to refute his stupid posts, because there are visitors who are reading his crap. If these visitors read posts like his on a dog lovers forum, they might believe his crap. And they're also reading the posts that say this guy is a troll. You're falling for it, Mantis, and I urge you to just put Steamboat on ignore. If trolls don't get an audience, they stop trying to wind people up. One would hope anyone reading the posts wouldn't take any notice of the imitators of the recent well publicized theatrics of attacking the person & slinging as much muck as one can invent in the vain the hope some will stick? People are smarter than that. Most people that is. People can sort out which comments have substance & which are just trying to retain their authors position in the pack of self righteous, long distance, not directly affected, frustrated hippie wanna be's cause seekers. Who would have thought that expressing the opinion owners should be responsible for the I.Ding the breed/s of their own dogs would hit such a raw nerve. I will be interested in Mantis' reply. I may have one, maybe even two, more questions for her on the subject. -

Question for Mantis. Did you get ANKC registration papers with your adopted staffy? If you did? That's wonderful. If you didn't? How do your know it's really a staffy, as in a pure bred Staffordshire Bull Terrier? It may be a cross of one of those little pitbulls people here abouts are talking about. -

Bsl is a bad law? i could have sworn i said that right at the begining. Now, if we could only agree with the owner I.D. thingy, we would be on the same page. No? That's a pitty. -

It exists in the form of the "associate register" for any desexed mutt, mongrel, non papered look-a-like and dogs of unknown parentage There's also the "sporting register" which allows for the "working" dogs such as those Kelpies registered with WKC, to be listed on the register, remain entire and compete in agility, herding etc. The purpose of the KC's is to maintain the "Pedigree" dog register, not to provide "novelty events" for dogs that are not recognised in any way Don't you find it hypocrital that some manning the ramparts screaming ''save the pitbulls'' & accusing the pure bred registeries & owners of not only supporting BSL but revelling in the ''slaughter'' are the same persons supporting the puppy millers, bred for profit only, shelter choking produce. If the truth be known, there are probably more abandoned "oodles:, deliberatly bred mongrels, put down in week than there are pittie ''types'' in a whole year. -

What's wrong with a bit of creative management........we are talking box tickers here......what would you need to produce for a ranger to leave happily without your dog on a seizure mission In my experience (which is more than you would think), a switched on and Hitleresque lawyer!! m-sass And do you think it is fair, reasonable and equitable that someone should acquire a cute puppy which is the product of two crossbred dogs - neither of which have any pitbull - and when it grows up, it is tan with light eyes, it never does anything wrong, and it is sitting on the lawn one day, minding its own business when the ACO comes and grabs it, and the council will not let the owners see it again, or have the body returned after they have knocked it off? Can you tell me why that dog should die? It's not a pitbull. It has never done anything wrong. It should be killed, why? Someone who only thinks purebred dogs should continue to live, is not, imho, a true dog lover. Mantis, of course you are correct. Its even worse when they actively promote and support B.S.L to that end.Thats more than just not caring,or prefering Pedigrees.Thats hate. Extremism. I also think they are who they say.Different styles.Even scarier. I keep trying to find a way to say it with out offending any one.I can't but that attitude is fostered here on Dol.(and else where )There has to be a better way to bring change than labeling anyone who breeds out side of the KCs as irresponsible.Mostly it may be so, but its not a given. Its taught to be a given. These guys believe it whole heartedly enough to cheer on a slaughter. If the KCs could find a way to include non pedigree dogs, (Appendix registries? Novelty show events? Something?)They could be gaining new members who learn about goals and purpose. The Kcs would gain a big voice. And be given some thing new to to measure themselves against, even if only in novelty events. Otherwise, there are new registries popping up that cater only for D.D and commercial farms who are just as extreme,or more, towards the KCS. They will take up the slack and the KCs will suffer for that. If I get booted for these views,so be it. The entire post is an uninformed & disgusting misrepresentation of the truth. -

http://www.raisingcainkennels.com/ But they are bandogges, which my boy was, not an APBT. His mother who was a purebred APBT weighed no where near that. If there is a Staffy close to 30kg, they wouldn't be able to move, you talk total crap. Well there you go. The NEO x APBT is just another mongrel that is marketed as the modern "bandog". You want to pretend your ''bandog'' is not a pitbull or pitbullx? Speaking of talking crap. A good example of the reason for my opinion of owner required breed I.D. tho. You obviously haven't seen many staffies either. They aren't all the fit, muscular little 16'' dogs pictured in the breed profiles - of which incidentally, most of the males would run to over 20kg. Some as close to 30kg as they are to 20kg. If the dog in your avatar is the dog you have ''adopted". I would suggest you read my reply to the question asked of how to keep suspect dogs safe & give the advice serious consideration. You are my idea of a troll btw. -

I am rather bemused as well. But for a different reason. From the UKC APBT standard Height and Weight The American Pit Bull Terrier must be both powerful and agile so actual weight and height are less important than the correct proportion of weight to height. Desirable weight for a mature male in good condition is between 35 and 60 pounds. Desirable weight for a mature female in good condition is between 30 and 50 pounds. Dogs over these weights are not to be penalized unless they are disproportionately massive or rangy. You do realise that 35-60 pounds = 15-27 kg, and 30-50 pounds is 13.6-22 kg. 40 kg in that case is definitely as the original poster said, way over the weight range, nearly double. But not the first time you have let facts get in the way of making a point The UKC standard for the APBT has no set parameters for height or weight. Neither does the Amstaff btw. The standard describes what is considered to be ideal. However, 20 - 100lb APBTs are all equal under the standard as long as they fit the physical requirements. A 90lb pit bull is not particularly unusual. The ADBA has introduced the new category of ''bullies'' for the squat behemoths that weight well over 100lbs...they are still pit bulls though. BTW, I have seen staffies that weigh over 30kgs, not pretty & that's a fact. It's not hard to get a pitbull up to & over 40kgs...& that's a fact as well. And if they are bandogs, neo x pitty....the skies the limit. Nice try though. edit to add. 100+ lb'er http://www.raisingcainkennels.com/ -

Is Edmonton anywhere near Melbourne? I thought Victoria was the issue? Owners responsible for their dogs? Common sense? Well go on, who'd of thought such a thing? -
How many of the fatalities attributed to horse where the result of unprovoked attacks I wonder? Similarly, I wonder how many of the dog fatalities were the result of people falling off their dogs backs? Slilly questions? Certainly. Because a it's silly analogy.

I am no other person. My opinions are my own. Public opinion is overwhelming support of B.S.L. My opinion is that people be responsible for the type of dog they own. Including the ancestory. My opinion is that most of those who rail against the suggestion they be liable for breed I.D. of their declared dog is more fear that an easy & convenient method of avoiding censure & a fine will be closed to them. My opinion is it's a exercise in personal protection rather than protection of their "pets" The reason for my mounting posts is because I have tried to answer the many questions, challenges & uninformed attacks to an honest opinion. " Eek, it's a troll" What lamentful admission of nothing of any value to add. Pathetic actually. It's the bottom rung of the mob mentality. There is more sycophantic "opinion" here than there is rational thought. Many run with the hounds seeking a fox to attack so as to curry favour with the pack. My opinion is valid. This fox isn't running. -

So was the SBT. Aphra asked about the evidence that suggested they were a danger to the public. Wrong again. Facts aren't a biggie here obviously. Oh dear, how about you put the condescension aside until you learn a bit more about the history of the breeds mentioned and the reasons for their banning? The SBT had more "fighting" heritage than the other breeds cited. So the reason you gave is just more waffle. The SBT, as a breed, has been never bred for the pits. And that's a fact jack. Be careful, do some research before you blunder on any farther. Edit. SBT's aren't a banned breed....yet. Maybe you should read up on your own breeds history as I can't understand why their clubs websites would lie you also could stop insulting everyone and treating them like idiots, read up on the new Vic legislation and present some actual facts It's one thing to support BSL but insulting everyone when you obviously don't have all the facts is something else. How about listening to what people are saying instead of trying to be a smart arse troll SBTs are restricted in some areas of the US...and no, I'm not talking about amsatffs though they are too I do know my breeds history. Quite well actually. I haven't insulted anyone. Nor have I treated anyone like an idiot. Unless having a different opinion is construed as such by you & those like you. As a matter of fact, it is more vice versa & all because I opined people with declared restricted dogs should have the onus on them to produce proof of breed instead of the councils charged with applying the legislation.. Nor do I support BSL. Nor do I care much for those, like you, who actively support the denigration of the hard won reputations of recognised pure breeds by those who would use them as a shield to avoid a law they brought upon themselves. You should be aiming your misguided vitriol at those who caused the BSL to implimented. The same people who then moved the focus onto xbreeds because of their disregard for the law & subsequent denial of breed by using the xbreed defense. -

In Ireland there are ten controlled breeds: In the UK there are four breeds of banned dogs. It's worth reading the UK legislation (I've put the link at the bottom of the quote). Because this is the outcome of the Coroner's recommendation. Animal control officers can, and do, seize dogs off the street, on the basis of how they look, even if the dog has no history of bad behavioiur and doing nothing other than having a particular appearance. There are no mentions in either legislation of "Irish Staffys". Staffords and other dogs, including pedigreed dogs with papers are restricted in many European countries. Germany has 42 breeds of dog with restrictions placed on them, and bans on " Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and the Bull Terrier." In fact Germany has some of the strictest dog laws and is one of the most dog unfriendly countries in Europe. They had four fatal dog attacks in 2010, although their breed legislation was introduced in 2001. Across Europe there were 15 fatal dog attacks. That is out of a human population of nearly 750 million. I'm fascinated by the constant inclusion of the Fila, Dogo and Tosa in these lists. I can't find any statistics on dog attacks on South America right now, but I'd be interested to see them if anyone has the stats. But the Dogo, Fila and Tosa are rare breeds outside their own countries, so clearly their inclusion in the lists across Australia, the UK and Europe is based on myth rather than any evidence. If anyone is interested in the history of BSL, Karen Delise's book "The Pit Bull Placebo" is available for free download as an ebook from the National Canine Research Council. www.nationalcanineresearchcouncil.com/ The Dogo, Fila & Tosa are all "fighting breeds" Which is why they are banned. -

You're a purebreed dog owner who values your dog, do you do all those things? Absolutely. You walk your dog in a muzzle and restricted collar? What would you do if your neighbours weren't on-side? I don't need to. Change neighbours.
