  1. No they are in Sydney so it would mean getting a flight or road transport, they also need to have a good chat to the owner to ask questions before making a decision. The other Manchester at NSWAR could be of interest if the VIC one doesn't pan out. The owner wants him gone asap ....
  2. I bought one and it didn't fit my sliding door all that well and because it was a bit wobbly, i could not get any of my dogs to use it, including my intrepid Cattle dog cross - never mind the littlies. So I sold it for about a third of the cost, almost unused!
  3. I have a lead on an excellent home - very strange coincidence!! Just after I spoke to the owner I had put the phone down and got a call from a friend whose sister was looking for another dog, having just lost her old dog. I offered my help and she said "yes but she's decided that what she really wants is a Manchester Terrier" - i was speechless, how truly weird. It's a great home so I called the owner back to say I was passing on the ad to these friends and we'll wait and see what happens next!!
  4. Just spoke to one breeder of MTs who told me to call another breeder as it wasn't one of theirs. Guess what? I rang the owner and I got the breeder right the first time. Shame they are not interested in taking one of their own dogs back.
  5. This is such a rare breed that last time i found one, i was able to track down the original breeder. Alternatively, I'm quite sure that Ronda from PAWS would help. Where is the dog?
  6. Mine have all been on the tiles for the last 3 weeks, noone wants to go in the crates at the moment! SHe's obviously unhappy, I think you need to have a rethink.
  7. It's so hard when they leave us after so many years, what a massive hole in your life that you notice on a daily basis, especially at certain times. He was an incredible character, I'm glad you have Mini to help you through. Hugs to you.
  8. Yes - it's the dog I rehomed next door - stupidly!! He races up to the fence on the other side as soon as they let him out and stands there barking, hoping to entice mine to come out and join him which they do. As soon as I go out and walk towards the fence he takes off. Some of them have become very good at ignoring him these days.
  9. Great news Maree. It has been a terrible year for Cocker Spaniels, I've never seen so many in need. I recently rehomed an 11 yr old to a beautiful home. There is a golden Cocker in Blacktown right now and PAWS have just taken on a pair of Blue Roan. Save Our Strays have had quite a number of Cockers this year and currently have a black female but she must be an only dog. It's pretty unbelievable.
  10. They usually update their website in the afternoon. DOL member Shmoo goes in there quite regularly and also Kelscats. They run the Facebook page - Friends of Hawkesbury Pound. The pound is open silly hours at the weekend and as you can imagine - Sat is very busy usually. Sunday - don't bother ringing as there is only 1 person there.
  11. Just be grateful they are not snotty tissues!! One of mine has had a field day whilst I've been sick for nearly 3 weeks with bronchitis .... :)
  12. Yes, def. set up a camera. When I was in a flatshare a few years ago, my flatmate had a beautiful and gentle German Shepherd (Ellie). She had access to get in and out the house but it was quite open, one side of the garden backed on to a park so I was worried about being burgled. After that Ellie was kept outside, it was a pretty big yard. Then came the complaint from someone about her barking all the time. The rangers interviewed other neighbours and one of them said it was the children of the complainant who were tormenting Ellie with sticks, stones etc. Sure enough, that's what was happening ... The complainant was a nasty piece of work who used to yell abuse at me as I was walking Ellie (my flatmate never walked her) along on the lead - it was bewildering to be honest. His children also threw stones at ducks and other birds on the nearby creek, i guess he was bringing them up to hate all animals.
  13. Please send a pm to DOL member Juice, I think she saw Steve at K9Pro. whichever trainer it was, they recommended the weight jacket for her busy working breed.
  14. Actually, others have made a good point. I had an old dog with dementia who was keeping me awake most of the night, every night. I finally decided I was going to have to put him to sleep. He was waking me because he wanted food, i tried giving him snacks and full meals - anything to shut him up but nothing worked. Someone suggested i try Chinese herbs, i couldn't believe it would work and it was a last resort but within 2 days, he was once again sleeping through the night. I had him for another 8 months, living happily again in peace. A dog as you describe, isn't happy for whatever reason and perhaps something like this could provide the calm she needs, mentally. You can work on the physical at the same time - the treadmill and/or heavy jacket could work.
  15. There is a weighted coat for hyper dogs, it helps wear them out. DOL member Juice told me about it, send her a pm.
  16. I also thought this was right, even in NSW. These days people just seem to love to make other people's lives a misery. If they complain to council they have to make a diary. A friend of mine is experiencing this and her dogs weren't even there one day the neighbour said they were barking, the council is aware that some of it could be malicious or perhaps it is a neighbour's dog but my friend is blamed because she has more than one. Sadly she has to lock her dogs inside now when she leaves the property because there have been too many complaints and she can't take any chances. Effectively it stops dogs from being dogs, I understand when the dog is being a nuisance with constant barking but when it is protecting its property with occasional barks or playing for instance, there is no allowance for that. An old neighbour of mine said even one dog bark annoyed her immensely. As dog owners these days, you are really up against it with attitudes like that.
  17. I think that every salon manager/vet practice/wherever groomers are employed needs to include a warning as part of their onboarding procedure - that if ever anyone is caught leaving a dog unattended on a grooming table, even for an instant - they will be given a warning and/or dismissed. There is no excuse, never ever. I'm sure it is part of the training process but as someone earlier said, anyone can set themselves up as a groomer unfortunately. Maybe it is worth contacting the manufacturers of the groomers' tables/equipment to see if there are warnings issued with them. I did hear about this happenign to an ex Doggie Rescue dog in a nr Sydney city salon in 2012, not sure which place but I hope the owner took action against them.
  18. bumping this thread, looks like my friend's dog meets the criteria!
  19. I'm beginning to think that Beagle/Boxer cross would be a good guess, those feet are big!
  20. It was pure laziness to leave a dog in that position and eat lunch, I simply cannot believe it. If this is a common practice there, I would have to wonder how many other dogs have been injured or worse previously.
  21. in Sydney, I've already emailed the owner but will ring them now i have the contact details for BT rescue
  22. Is Wellness wheat free? That might explain the improvement in his activities. I've been on wheat free for 2 weeks and ate somethign with wheat in it yesterday and really noticed some arthritic pain flaring up!
  23. I've looked at the list of rescue contacts but I thought Nikki had moved on. Does anyone know who does BT Rescue now? Found one listed in FTGH so have emailed the owners offering help.
  24. Found this story about "Buck", a lovely gentle boy who was shot and left in a garbage bag in freezing conditions in rural USA. Luckily he was found by someone who contacted a local animal rescuer who promptly got him to an emergency vet and will be taking him to specialists and doing everything in her power to get him as well as possible. Here's the full story/video (it does contain upsetting footage of Buck with his injuries) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2258672/Buck-dog-Canine-saved-shot-face-tied-post.html She has a Facebook page to help raise funds for "Buck", so called because he was shot with buckshot. Search for: Buck Needs Bucks for his Buckshot Injuries
  25. What a lovely old girl and thank you for sharing her story. RIP Inka, you were truly loved.
