Dog Wanted
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Bundyburger's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Bundyburger - why must the dog sleep outside? It's bloody freezing in Victoria. I can never understand this as a requirement, esp if the dog is actually allowed inside for part of the time. -
Please Help Me Save My Dog
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Jellyblush's topic in General Dog Discussion
Jelly - most vets won't prescribe Chinese herbs or even listen to the discussion on them. There is one vet in Sydney and they do in person and by phone consultations - they are expensive however. I have referred people with dogs with sep anx to them and I've used their herbs for kidney disease and dementia with absolutely incredible results. A few years ago before I knew about them I rescued an old Foxy. Her sep anx was so severe that nothing worked - I tried Clomicalm for a few weeks and it made no difference. She wasn't so keen on my other dogs and so had to be kept separate unfortunately. The last straw was when I came home and she'd destroyed her bed leaving blood everywhere and splinters in her mouth. My vet said I'd done everything I could - i now know that wasn't the case but all I did at the time was what my vet recommended and it was all that I knew. It was very distressing, I love Foxies and also love old dogs, I didn't take the easy way out for it caused me so much guilt and upset even though I'd only had her a short while. Years on, I would now try the Chinese herbs and perhaps even acupuncture. There is a Facebook page called "Herbal Hound". They are curerntly mixing up some herbs for one of my dogs as she has a behavioural issue I'm having trouble coping with - bringing in poo from the garden and playing with it on my sofa, bed, the other dogs' beds etc before eating it .... it is truly revolting. She came from many years of living with a breeder in a breeder's environment and this was perhaps an outlet for her during that time. People suggest I lock her out of the bedroom but this still leaves access to the sofa etc. I'm hoping the herbs work! As I say, I've had amazing results before with dementia which is a condition affecting the brain so I would really hope that it would help with sep anxiety and bad habits !! -

I'll just add this - NO-ONE can be home 24/7. Could she be an assistance dog or a nursing home dog, that's the only situation where someone is there 24/7. -

Have you ever tried Chinese herbs? There is a Facebook page "Herbal Hound" - they are making me some herbs as I have a dog with a behavioural problem that I'm having trouble living with. I've had great success with Chinese herbs for anxiety before - they are amazing! -

And the trouble is, this is just the type of dog that PR loves to take and advertise as "gorgeous family friendly dog, blah blah". Blacktown SHOULD NOT release these dogs to anyone. -

I would love to see proof that they are behind, by the way I heard you're behind on some bills, prove that you aren't, see how that works? Too many people making up dribble and people are lapping it up like it's proven fact, all I ask is proof of such allegations before assuming it's the case. You are really amusing sometimes. Stop blowing smoke up everyone's backsides to avoid answering the questions, it's very transparent. -

I agree Tboils, why on earth would they be behind with a bit of rent when they are raking in money at a frigtening rate? Could it be that funds are being diverted to the wrong place? They'd better investigate very quickly ... It would be costing a fortune for all those special trainers needed to retrain the aggressive dogs they have. I still don't believe that can be done but I guess you can spend a lot of money trying? -

^ this ^ This thread and the Facebook pages are a disgusting blight on rescue. Rescue has become a sham on DOL. Sure PR might be doing things in a way that is not welcomed, appropriate or even correct, but the petty battles being waged here and elsewhere have done more damage to rescue than anything ever before or anything any one group could do. It's sickening. Not sure who you mean here Anne but there are plenty of good rescues operating and they are on here and not on here, I include my own in that category. If it is all so bad in your opinion then maybe it's time to move on? Not being rude, just saying. Rescue obviously did get challenging as you have passed on Pug Rescue to others. We all find it challenging from time to time, it isn't an easy thing to do, there is no end in sight after all. PR is not in the same league at all and is a menace to society. TBroils is obviously Mel in her less busy moments, blowing smoke in everyone's faces with ridiculous suggestions of posts being deleted. Yawn. -
I use Capstar to kill the fleas on new dogs I get but it only works for 24 hours. Advantage is good and works for a month!

My dogs can produce them like that depending on what they ate. Low fat food is best I find.

She's absolutely gorgeous! You can def. see some chihuahua in there I think. So glad you could take her rather than her ending up in the pound at a very difficult time of year. She reminds me of a little dog I rescued in 2011, she was chipped as a Silky Terrier/Fox Terrier but I couldn't see either breed in her at all. Needless to say she'd been a petshop gift to someone who didn't want her and had spent 14 miserable years with that family until they advertised her free to a good home. Sadly she hadn't been to a vet in years and all her teeth were rotten and had given her a bad heart. I had them removed and she was put on heart tabs, the vet said she'd have 6 months but we had 8 and I still miss her, she was the dearest little girl. I just wished I'd had her for many more years.

They probably don't want to take one that is def. dog aggro themselves, they'd rather recruit another rescue group to take the responsibility which is why they aren't replying to the offer of foster care. -

The dog might have come in through Holroyd Council, they use Blacktown but seem to operate differently, keeping the dogs there for quite some time. -

You and the rest of us! When you apply for a Clause 16D it requires a great deal of information, it is hours of work but you also have to provide annual reports to the DLG. I cannot see how PR can have a Clause 16D and maintain it. -

I rarely look at their FB page, I find it so disturbing. I follow a couple of the pounds very closely so am usually aware which dogs are where, esp the smaller ones. On one occasion a few months ago, I was aware that 2 small dogs were safe on a Friday - 1 was adopted direct from the pound, the other had gone home. About 10 days later, photos of these two dogs popped up on the FB page needing urgent donations to save them .... -

Here's a great example of how PR is not a rescue group but merely a go between, raising thousands of dollars for "rescue work" that they don't do. Question them on FB and you will be deleted and/or barred. -
