  1. Bonniebank - how lovely to see you on here again! Thank you so much for your kind offer, this one is now sorted. Hope all is well with you! :)
  2. I find that incredible - I did have one vet try and charge me a consult fee for the squeezing of the glands which is what I'd requested when booking the time. We had a major row and he reduced the consult fee to half, ie $30 - this is about 10 years ago now. I've never had another vet try and overcharge me. As a rescuer, it's not unusual for me to find owners who don't want to pay $20 once for anal glands nor the $10 per month approx cost for flea treatment or the $80 for a groom so I was wondering if it was $10 in this case, rather than $100. $100 for the anal glands to be emptied is exhorbitant - if this is the price then I'd be contacting the Vet Association and Fair Trading - it's not normal.
  3. Disgusting, an absolutely abhorrent action and done with obscene speed.
  4. Couldn't agree more. Sick of hearing people telling me how much they love their dogs but could I come and get them NOW. When I turn up I'm usually looking at a flea ridden, matted and neglected mess with bad teeth. Love? Really?
  5. Wow Jed, that is amazing. Thank you for sharing with Caz and all of us.
  6. So unfair and unnecessary, Buddy's loss is beyond tragic. What a beautiful boy, the photos have got me in tears this morning as it really shows us all what a truly special dog he was. I agree that Goldies are just the best dogs, I love them and always wanted one myself. I'm glad you have been able to get some justice for him and that this will hopefully prevent the same thing happenging to another dog left at this groomer's mercy. Hugs to you, so very very sad.
  7. Sounds like early dementia. My 16 yr old Iggy got to the point where he was keeping me up most of the night - barking and demanding food. I'd already got 2 other dogs with dementia - a night barker (when she got lost in the corner of the room) and a prolific piddler if anything was on the ground plus forgetting how to come in the doggie door. For the Iggy, I got Chinese herbs - they were brilliant - after 2 days he was sleeping through the night again, I had him for another 8 months. Herbs were from the All Natural Vet at Russell Lea - it wasn't cheap but it saved his life and my sanity. For the night barker I got a plug in child's light for the lounge which I think helped a little. My old Malt boy now has dementia, getting up in the night and piddling inside instead of going out, forgeetting how to get in and out of the house ...
  8. What is it with Iggies! My old boy also had to go every 6 weeks - it was a side effect of Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Every dog I pick from the pound has very full anal glands, so many owners are just not aware of their dogs' needs. I pay around $20 to get my dogs' bums done when necessary. I think you might have made a typo - there's no way anyone would charge $100, I think you must mean $10 which is pretty good. That said, best to learn how to do it yourself as it's such a regular thing and give the diet a review.
  9. God people make me sick, poor little dog. I've had to change my walking route and can no longer go down the next street due to two staffies with really stupid owners have access to the street through open gate/no gate on driveway and a 2 ft fence at the front. They don't like other dogs, the stupid owners take them off lead (no collars either) to the park opposite. Now in another street nr mine, my other walking route, a stupid young girl has a large bull breed cross in another house with no front fence or gate, off lead OF COURSE. Last night I had to turn back - i could see she was calling him, God knows where he was but I was terrified he'd appear and see me and my little dogs. Why should good dog owners be the ones to suffer?
  10. What a lovely story! My dear friend Schnauzer does great work!
  11. Just saw the dog listed in Blacktown Pound, chipped as an "Afghan" of around 2 yrs of age. I'm thinking he could have been one of the dogs rehomed by various rescue groups and taken from a notorious byb. 1300592 Male red 2/4yrs afghan 23/01/2013 7/02/2013 Kennel Can't do the picture unfortunately.
  12. Spot on - never muck around with ears! You don't want a burst eardrum so go to the vet first.
  13. Good luck Jelly, I hope you can find something that works well. I honestly believe that separation anxiety is very hard to cope with and most people would not have done all that you have. Whatever happens, you have my admiration for your fortitude and dedication to your dog and sincere best wishes.
