Not sure if Chinese herbs could help but worth enquiring, hard to manage sometimes in their old age so worth investigating any option.

Farewell Labradog
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Katdogs's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
An amazing rescue who did a truly fantastic job for all those years. Amanda will be very missed. -
I understood there was another escapee hit by a car who died. If you are going to run a facility of this type then you'd better have bloody good, inescapable fencing and double gates, ie plenty of procedures in place to stop someone's dog getting out.

Personally if i had a situation where 2 dogs were fighting (and not over something simple like food or toys that i could manage), i'd consider that they didn't actually get on and should be separated. It's no way to live. I have multiple dogs who live in harmony. Over the years many dogs have come and gone as i rescue old dogs. If any dog has come in and shown aggression to any of them, they are moved on very quickly. That can be after they feel settled, not just at the start.

Who Does White Swiss Shepherd Rescue?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to juice's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I met a breeder at a show and she was doing Swiss Shepherd Rescue - firstly i'd be asking who was the breeder on the papers as some breeders would like their dog back in this situation. Alternatively if you contact the breed club, they would def. know who would rescue. -
Stunning!

Sheltie Has Lost His Appetite
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Sheltiesrule1's topic in General Dog Discussion
Definitely go to the vet. How are his teeth? This can be an issue but you need to get the vet to look. I've just rescued a dog whose owner neglected his teeth - according to the owner's vet, for years. Finally, after 3 yrs of the vet advising the teeth needed doing urgently, the dog stopped eating and the owner acted. There are of course other reasons for dogs not eating. At 10 yrs of age, it is not normal at all for a dog to stop eating. One of my own dogs is 15 yrs old, he has dementia and has to be tempted to eat, one day he'll eat a particular kind of food with enthusiasm and the next day won't touch it. I have a wide variety of foods here and eventually find something - he is hungry and wants to eat but is just odd. I hope all is well but will be interested to hear what the vet thinks. Blood tests etc may be necessary to determine the issue. -
Absolutely appalling. What a horrific end for those loved pets.

43 or so degrees all round Sydney yesterday, can you believe that people were still leaving dogs in cars? They should be prosecuted, don't deserve to have them.

I'd like to see him banned. A massive money making enterprise in a scenario where so many things can and seemingly do go wrong causing animals to suffer. Wags the Cavalier endured a horrific attack which killed him, at some point. The treatment his owner endured (and other owners whose animals had problems there of one kind or another) has been vile. I'd love to see the back of FD. RIP Wags.

I've got plenty of suggestions but no 1 is that he must have access to go outside and toilet. One friend I have feeds her dogs their main meal at breakfast time and then they are outside all day. In the evening they get just a snack, are toiletted before bedtime and there are rarely any incidents as they cannot get outside, once she has closed the doors - no dog door. This is not how I like to live but for her it works. I have a housetraining method which I'm happy to share with you, if you like. Using my method I have successfully housetrained Italian Greyhounds (who are notoriously difficult) that have lived in a breeder's kennels for 14 years .... I'm not saying it was easy. I've also housetrained many other dogs I've rescued, of all ages, and other people's dogs when they are unable to achieve it themselves.

Andy Is Unwell And No-One Seems To Know Why...
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Glad he's better, I hope this has been a bug. The symptoms reminded me of my dog Luigi who kept getting really sick in the same way. It took a year to diagnose, in the intervening period he was put on special diets, given antibiotics and other meds but then it would happen again. Finally about a year after first becoming unwell, it was diagnosed as Inflammatory Bowel Disease which was managed with meds and special diet. Hope Andy is all better now and stays well! -
All Sorted Thanks

It's late and I may have the wrong end of the stick but isn't the dog chipped to the rescue group? Foster carers can't pass on dogs that don't belong to them. -
I've just rescued a dog with cataracts - I've rescued plenty of dogs with cataracts and owned dogs where they developed. This dog is a purebred Italian Greyhound. He is 11 yrs old. He's been to the vet and had all work done, 2 weeks ago. I've noticed he is rubbing his eyes with both front paws, there is no discharge or infection present, I've not seen this before and wondered if anyone else had had a dog that did this. he doesn't do it all the time, only a few times a day. It doesn't look like glaucoma. I will take him to the vet at the weekend but thought I'd ask on DOL.

Desperately seeking a lift from one part of Geelong to another. It's about a half hour drive or so to meet up with transport on the outskirts for a small dog I've rescued. I need to get him to Sydney next Monday and the transport leaves somewhere between 10 and 11am. They can give a more accurate time on the day and will call you in advance. Thank you

Molly Needs A Home
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Pheebs's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Also - she needs to be desexed before she goes anywhere if she isn't at the moment. I'd recommend contacting Little Legs Dog Rescue QLD. She really needs someone experienced to try and cure her issues before rehoming. -

Very hard to rehome a dog with a major problem like Sep.anx. Someone needs to try and fix it or the dog will just bounce around and around. -
Max Temperature You Walk Your Dog In?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's 36 degs here, I just stopped someone walking a black poodle to let them know that it's too hot and why. Like most people, the owner had no idea about heat stroke etc. -

Any luck for these two sweethearts yet? Seem to have been adopted, they have a few up there right now.
