What a cutie!! He'll be an investment of funds and energy for a while but it will be so rewarding and he deserves nothing but the best for the rest of his days!

Scourban is by far the best in my experience. Any reason why you haven't gone to a vet?

Border Terrier Attacked By Three Staffies In The Uk
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
I agree and you really need to be aware of the sort of dogs you own and what they are capable of. Far too many people are ignorant (or don't care) about their dogs' capabilities and place others in danger because of it. -
God Nic, sorry to hear that. Do you know who owns the dogs?
-
Maybe it's your tone that people are taking exception to?

I can't believe that noone has clamped down on ferrets ....

Yes, normally the sac shrivels up. We've had adopters ask if we've desexed the dogs because they can see it still.

Bull Mastiffs Attack Mother And Children In The Uk

Don't be hysterical. There are about three parts of DOL I participate in. This is one. Stop insinuating. What era and where are you talking about here though? I'll assume you didn't live in every city or county in the UK. In my area, it wasn't as bad as most, but hop on a bus and rangers were seizing dogs left, right, and centre. Not hysterical but you do like to portray yourself as someone with years of experience. You are not the only one. Your previous post suggested I hadn't lived in the UK and had no idea about it when in fact that's where I'm from and last lived there in the 1990s. I think it is a terrible place now for dogs and people. And were you involved in rescue over there? Is that where you built up some of your experience? Perhaps you are older than I imagine. -
That can absolutely come across to those who have less knowledge in an argument. I guess that's why I always fact check and investigate, so I never feel like you have. :) Rational sentence there. Kudos. Not interested. Not every thread needs to become about these bull breeds you once knew or now know or whatever the story is this week. And I'm not interested in your opinion on my opinion/stories or whatever especially when you like to twist and misconsture it so frequently, so how about you keep it to yourself.

I missed most of it but this rescue group was on Channel 9 breakfast TV this morning.

Naaw, and isn't that just what a lot of people do. Read the media, look at the surface, never ask questions - because they've already made their minds up. With Breed Specific Legislation, I butt heads with people like you all the time. Heck, there's already one person here trying to derail this thread into something about the breeds they so vehemently despise. I, however, did email these people, and have learned a bit more. I'll be going there in a couple of weeks to meet them, their foxes, and see their operation fully. I think that's the only way to really get a fully informed opinion - rather than just getting your back up, with preconceived ideas, and running with it. If you can't be bothered to really look into something, why do you bother commenting? Kirty, so sorry to hear what happened to you. Heck Plan B, that wouldn't be me would it? I find you assume that you know far too much about me. True, I'll admit I'm not fond of bull breeds especially and certainly not if they are DA but it doesn't mean that I dislike all of them, nor does it mean that I've never walked/interacted with them and found them new homes or given them other help. I invite you to come and meet the 80 kilo bull mastiff cross that I've been helping for the last few months with food, bedding, medication and other essentials such as protection against the flies - all at my own expense - not a charity's. You won't be able to get into the yard with him as he doesn't like strange people but his owner will be happy to speak to you I'm sure. I will be calling the lady with the two puppies - doubtless she's going to have to rehome her cat now. My advice to her was to ensure she attended proper dog training classes, not just puppy classes - she honestly hadn't thought it necessary. How do you think she'll go walking them along the road? I'd say it would be a challenge. What if they can get out over her fencing. What if they are DA? I'm trying to assist so that none of these things can happen. If she's told me she'd bought two chihuahuas, Beagles or whatever, no I probably wouldn't have been quite so concerned but I would have given the same advice - good training, good fencing and keep your cat safe. There are small children in the house as well.

Border Terrier Attacked By Three Staffies In The Uk
Her Majesty Dogmad posted a topic in In The News
Another disturbing story of an owner with out of control dogs and it says at the end of the story that prosecutions are rare, what's to stop these dogs from doing the same again? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2275010/Terrier-ear-ripped-Staffies-attack-described-vet-worst-seen.html A border terrier is recovering after having her ear ripped off by three Staffordshire terriers. The attack on four-year-old Sally left her lucky to be alive, according to her vet. Her left ear was torn off, veins in her neck were exposed and she suffered multiple wounds after being set upon in a park in Leeds on January 15. Sally the border terrier is being patched up after an attack by three Staffordshire terriers left her without her left ear Owner Christine Graham was away on holiday when the attack took place in Roundhay Park, Leeds. Sally, four, was being walked by a friend Mrs Graham has spent £3000 on Sally's veterinary treatment so far and the bill could rise to £5000 Owner Christine Graham, 70, has spent £3000 on veterinary bills so far, which could rise to £5000. Vet Simon Bate said: 'We have seen a number of these types of cases but this is probably the worst I've dealt with.' Sally was being walked by Sheila Hodgson, a friend of Mrs Graham, in Roundhay Park when Mrs Hodgson began to chat to the woman walking the Staffies. The trio then pounced on the smaller dog - and another dog walker had to intervene to stop the ordeal. Mrs Hodgson said: 'Two of them had Sally by the ears and one was at her behind. 'We both tried to get them off her but couldn't. It was horrendous.' Mrs Graham was on holiday at the time of the attack. She said: 'I couldn't believe it when I found out what happened. Mrs Graham said that Sally was 'more dead than alive' when she returned from holiday to be reunited with the injured border terrier The stitches on Sally's neck, where veins were left exposed, can be seen alongside the bandage protecting her head 'She's a really friendly dog and wouldn't hurt a fly. It's a wonder they didn't kill her instantly. 'She was more dead than alive a week later.' Mrs Graham called for the Dangerous Dogs Act, where an owner can be prosecuted for allowing their animal to be out of control in public, to be tightened as prosecutions are rare. -

Dogs Not Restrained In Moving Vehicles
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Mystiqview's topic in General Dog Discussion
I was at Renbury once and was just picking up some little dogs and getting them into crates, my own was travelling in a harness on the front seat but I always get them out to toilet (I don't take them in hot weather by the way). Owner of a huge cross bull breed had just picked him up. No collar, no lead, just sitting on his front seat. He had both his and the passenger windows open. Suddenly as the dog saw me carrying one of my small dogs it almost launched himself through the driver's window as I was putting the dog into a harness on the front seat. I quickly shut the door and the guy only just managed to hold on to him and I recommended that he didn't drive along with his windows open in case they saw another dog walking along the road ... -
Bull Mastiffs Attack Mother And Children In The Uk
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
Why dont you google Pedigree Dogs Exposed the blog and see what else has been written. I read it, sounds like the owner defending themselves - which isn't against the law and they did have their day in court. I'll go with the Judge's opinion - evidence presented in court by the victims and the owner - on this one rather than a DOL post by someone with a bias. -
Bull Mastiffs Attack Mother And Children In The Uk
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Her Majesty Dogmad's topic in In The News
Because you've lived there and seen it first hand? There are different laws in the UK involving where an incident takes place. But don't for one second think dogs get away with anything. When and if they can kill a dog of type, they absolutely will. Having lived twenty years in the UK, it is a terrible place to be with a dog. Sorry to disappoint you Plan B being as you just love to follow me all over DOL and attempt to demonstrate your assumed superior knowledge and experience of dogs. For your information, not that it is any of your business but I'm from the UK and have lived there a lot longer than you it seems, not that it is a competition. I read the newspapers daily and have family and friends over there, one of whom is actually a dog trainer. I've actually posted another article on a dog attack that states "prosecutions are rare" in reference to dog attacks. This teaches people nothing except they can get away with irresponsible behaviour causing immense suffering to people and their animals. It never used to be such a terrible place to live with a dog as dogs were far more accepted in general by people than here in Australia and were mostly very loved and valued by their owners. People's first thoughts when looking for a new dog were to go to the RSPCA or a breeder. Puppy farms were pretty much unheard of as there was no need for them. Now the shelters are full, things are not so great over there, some of which can be blamed on the economy and sadly, changing attitudes towards responsible pet ownership. Dumped staffies and staffy crosses are common. I visited shelters and contacted rescue groups all over the UK when I last visited in 2010. I found the Australian attitude towards dogs to be extremely different when I first came here. Things have improved but it still has some way to go. -

I don't believe, if the incident was as minor as someone is claiming in their letter, that the case would have gone to court. Dogs in the UK get away with all sorts - there are horrific cases over there where dogs have killed people/children and the dogs don't even have to be euthanased. -

Might have touched some Wandering Jew. One of mine was licking and licking and the area looked red and sore. I got the Paw Paw ointment out and rubbed well in, he was all good later that day!

Crufts To Feature Crossbreeds For First Time
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to silentchild's topic in In The News
I don't see anything wrong with the Crossbreed Rescue - one of the entrance requirements should be that the dog was desexed and if it's come from a good rescue then that should be done without question. I would strongly be against the showing of undesexed crossbreeds because it is basically encouraging and promoting puppy farms and back yard breeding ... -

How very sad and she did nothing to deserve that. I'd have been less worried by your fox that by the lady I met on Saturday who lives round the corner from me. She had a Staffy that "used to get out all the time" - he was dog aggressive but good with her cat. He died suddenly and so now she has purchased 2 Amstaffs who want to kill her cat. I just hope to God they don't get out, she seemed completely clueless.
