Applying For 16d?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
The main problem I see is not registration but the fact that if you don't have one, you must buy the animal from the shelter. The animal, whether well enough or not, will then undergo the standard surgery, vac etc. This is OK if the animal is not already desexed and young and healthy. Many of the dogs I rescue need a dental or lumps removed, other tests etc. I've bought dogs from pounds and they've gone through the standard procedures, only to then require me to do a further dental or different procedure. Whilst it isn't unusual for dogs to cost me more than the adoption fee, as a rescue you need to save money where you can. It is also not good for some dogs - especially sighthounds - to be undergoing too many anaesthetics. You could also take a dog that isn't well, has something obvious wrong but it still gets to have the standard procedures and then you have to put to sleep - if it had been to your rescue vet in the first place, you wouldn't have had to do all that. -
Hats Off To Cc Lost & Found Facebook
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to HazyWal's topic in General Dog Discussion
Never give up. We at Iggy rescue just found a lost Italian Greyhound after 9 months on the run. Plenty of sightings for the first few months and then nothing. We thought he'd died but he'd taken up residence under a person's deck and they were feeding him. They didn't have a computer but called RSPCA and the ranger, no one could catch him but his foster carer went out and sedated him (under vet instructions) and now he's safe again. -

Applying For 16d?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
My application went in under my name for my particular rescue. We supplied documentation with the application but then got a call asking for all our policies and procedures plus how we educated the general public on the NSW laws, lost dogs and so on. Other rescues have been asked for different information. I'd like to see the DLG looking at some of the rescues I've had calls about lately - the one that rehomes undesexed dogs interstate with no questions, no checks made, would be a great start. -
Applying For 16d?

It has become much harder to get a Clause 16D now. Expect that it will take months and expect a truckload of questions - depending on how your rescue runs. It shouldn't be too easy and perhaps the DLG should also be investigating that those rescues with a current Clause 16D operate in an ethical way or it should be rescinded. Far too many cowboys out there. -
One of my dogs was sick after eating the canned food so I haven't tried it again since. It looked good but there must have been something unusual in it so I won't be getting it again.

You had just been rescued from the Pound when I first met you. You were obviously quite elderly, in an awful state and running amok causing chaos amongst other rescued doggies who all appeared to dislike you. I picked your matted body up, stared into your gunky, dry eyes and in spite of your pain and discomfort, you gave me a kiss on the cheek. There and then I made a promise to you, that if no one adopted you I would come back for you. I was always asking after you and a year later I came back with my dogs - you loved them and vice versa so you came home at the end of 2009. I'm only sorry it took me so long ... I'm not a fan of Maltese, you were my first. I had my preconceived notions about Maltese - I literally had no idea that you would bring me such joy. You loved to play chase - especially when I wanted to put your lead on, it made me laugh so much. You would run off with my slippers/shoes in your mouth as I'd be trying to get changed. You loved to throw a toy up in the air and made your own fun. You hated the car and barked your brains out however far we travelled. You definitely didn't like groomers either ... over the years you bit several of them and we were told not to go back - you only had 3 or 4 teeth but believed in using them. I was also fair game if I thought I'd try and clean your eyes or give you a brush. I had to get you in the bath to do your eyes and only the groomer could groom you wearing a muzzle. Since my friend started grooming you, you had become much better for her and even stopped being muzzled. In the last few months you'd been battling a bad heart, Cushings disease and dementia. As you were about 14 or so, not much could be done and when you suddenly had 3 massive seizures today, it was time. You were silent in the car on the way to the vets. You went peacefully in my arms, eating liver treats. Miss you always my little Mickey Mouse. love Mum xx

bumping my thread, sadly we have followed up on a few options for these dogs (separately) and nothing has panned out. Both have one more appointment each in the next few days but we will be desperate for help if nothing has been found by the next weekend. Both are wonderful dogs. Dexie's even good with chickens and ducks. Rosie the Shep has been advertised on the GSD Facebook page which has brought up a few enquiries too.

I am so, so sorry. What a terrible tragedy. You did everything a good owner does, noone could have foreseen all those events. Please be kind to yourself, please don't blame yourself for anything at all. RIP Shelby, taken far too young. Hugs.

Jack Russell Boy Needs A New Home...
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to iggy mum's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
won't be against their rules - shelter, food and water. Can be as crappy as anything but if those elements are in place, nothing will be done. -
Happy there has been a fitting outcome. SAS doesn't muck around so although I'm curious of course, I'm also satisfied it would be appropriate. I hope that PR has learned a lesson although I doubt it .... they are incapable of learning.

Central West "facebook" Sheep Killer Caught And Charged!
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to LisaCC's topic in In The News
A---wipe. Nothing good about this person, they'll never be any use. Another oxygen thief using up space on the planet. I hope he suffers in one way or another, for the rest of his miserable life. -
Her parents must be so proud.

One of my foster carers likes to go through Gumtree, it's always full of unwanted dogs. We all know that but I wanted to share with everyone the story of one very sweet little angel that I met today. She's a purebred Pomeranian who found herself in a large pound in February this year. She was bought by someone for an elderly relative and had all vet work done. Elderly relative went into a nursing home recently - I have no idea how old they were, perhaps this could have been foreseen, perhaps not - it was only a matter of weeks that this dog was their companion. Relative took dog back for a short while before advertising on Gumtree. New owner comes along. New owner has dog for 3 days before advertising on Gumtree as they don't want her now. My foster carer contacts them and adopts the dog ... the paperwork trail has to be tidied up but this little girl is now safe. Everyone involved know that she is now with a rescue group and will be rehomed. She's housetrained, weighs 4 kilos and has no issues with people, children or other animals. She came matted and full of fleas. It just makes me so very sad that a truly delightful dog, free of any issues whatsoever has such a struggle to be valued in this life. I despair of humanity some days.

Against the rules I would have thought and it also says there are some exceptions - in all my years of rescue I haven't come across a dog that couldn't be desexed yet. -
Our Lawyer will be dealing with it now and she will take it further. I do hope there will be a follow up newspaper article if she gets her come uppance.

GREAT idea Nic. Neither of them stand to keep getting away with the abuse, what lowlifes. They always want to make me vomit into the nearest receptacle. MN should go and start a "church" instead and then no innocent dogs or ethical/decent dog rescuers would be hurt in the process.

Are they on Petrescue, I'd be sending that email to Shel. Perhaps someone (who isn't banned already) might like to put it on their Facebook page as a demonstration of how they like to behave when they don't get their own way. Don't let pathetic morons who haven't got the first clue about rescue or dogs get you down! I'd laugh but it isn't remotely funny.

I think it's best to wait until the children are 5 yrs of age personally.

Sounds like they shouldn't be doing that job. I provide the same service all of the time and find solutions for people looking for new pets generally but without any nastiness involved. If I can't change their mind about getting a 1 yr old dog when they are 80 then I'm disappointed but never rude ... There are plenty of good rescues in VIC that will help - Aphra and Rescued with Love do a great job for a start! There's also the dogs that are in trouble in the post that Iggy Mum made. -

Not sure if there is a Jack Russell Rescue in VIC, Jill in NSW does an amazing job. There are some good shelters in VIC, do you think they'd be prepared to take him somewhere? -
Thanks Purdie - that's my rescue. I would definitely NOT recommend an Iggy for an older person - they are very likely to trip you up as they stick like glue, leap into the unknown at the drop of a hat, have no common sense and are esp. interested if food is anywhere. They are hard to housetrain and even if they are, have accidents under certain circumstances. Even the mature ones can still be crazy!
