I can't see why they couldn't have let the owner get the dog under control (ie put him back in his car) for 1 minute and called the local authorities to come and take the dog into care. I wasn't entirely sure that they had a really good reason for arresting the guy apart from the fact he had p---d them off.

2 X Beagles Needing New Homes
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to amt86's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Unfortunately people often can't see past overweight dogs. I always say that it only takes a couple of months of proper feeding and daily walks to remove the weight. I faced this as a regular issue when rehoming from a shelter, people simply didn't want overweight dogs .... Recently I got a kilo of a Chihuahua cross that I took on when her owner died, she was seriously chubby at 6.5 kilos and I've now rehomed her. I really hope these dogs can find something. Sometimes I find that owners think their situation isn't great but they also don't generally know about the dumpage/mass euthanasia of unwanted dogs. These are not young dogs, they would probably be happy with daily walks and a loving home. He may just be being super critical of his own home. I'd be interested to know why he thinks his situation is no longer suitable. -

3 Oldies And An Odd Situation

Well it doesn't make sense to me. Is she ill? Why would you take all of your pets to the pound one day? If you love them, at that age, you care for them until they pass away naturally - unless there is something going on with your health etc. -
Catahoulas
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to NQAnimalRescue's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Well the Catahoula breeders I contacted showed no interest in helping one in the pound. They are VERY rare so I was a little taken aback. -
I've had an enquiry from someone who has lost their Dachshund & Schnauzer - they don't want those breeds again as it would be too painful as a reminder. Dachsy crosses are fine though. Coat needs to be easy care, dog up to 20 kilos. What they want is: 1 Housetrained 2 Good on lead, not interested in running off or escaping 3 a good companion ie sit by their feet 4 will bark and alert them if someone knocks on the door etc 5 around 5=7 years of age 6 MUST be good with other dogs - they stay with their daughter who has 2 dogs and will take dog on if anything happens They like a dog that will follow them round as they do the chores. dog will go round the block each day so must be good on lead If you've got a dog that fits the bill, pls let me know!

Tips On Finding A Breeding Female Beagle
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to rogue6901's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'd like to ask you to reconsider breeding your Beagle. They are lovely dogs but not for everyone. If you'd care to look at the pounds in Sydney and elsewhere, Beagles are appearing with great regularity these days - of all ages - from 1 up to 12 yrs of age. There is Beagle Rescue NSW and doubtless they are in other states too. They are inundated with unwanted Beagles. Always important to thoroughly investigate a market if you are about to start producing goods for sale within. There is currently an over supply. Anyone can sell puppies, of course they can, but the trick is making sure that the homes are suitable and committed for the rest of the dogs' lives. Beagles need busy lives involving heaps of exercise etc. This in itself indicates that many homes are not going to cut it. Can you take your puppies back if things don't work out - in 6 months, a year, 5 years? -

2 Mini Foxies X
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Chicken's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Oh poor little things at that age! You'd need to have a look at their teeth and are they desexed/vaccinated etc? There are some wonderful groups down your way, Kiki's Safehaven and Saffron on the Hill I think it's called. -

Why the hell someone would kick this poor little dog, I don't know. Poor little mite - I hope that person is prosecuted for animal cruelty. -
Yes, my old Italian Greyhound once had this. Straight to the vets - it was really stinky and gross when the vet pulled the sheath back. He then applied some cream and told me to put the cream on and rub it in, twice daily. Needless to say that Luigi was a very happy IG for the next 10 days or so ....

Long Term Foster Housing In Perth, Wa
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Kramerica's topic in General Dog Discussion
I set up a care arrangement for someone who was renovating for 6 months and dog had to move. 6 months turned into 12 and then into 18 months - dog wasn't really wanted by the husband. Dog had been wife's dog so she paid the agreed amount into my colleague's bank account until the dog passed away. The agreement was that they provided all flea/heartworm/worm treatments, took the dog to the vet when it was sick or needed vaccinating, paid all kennel fees when the carer went away and so on. On top of that there was a carer's fee, can't remember what it was - maybe $70 a week perhaps which would be the minimum. I just tried to help a pair of dogs whose owners wanted them to find "foster care" and then to get them back in 9 months' time. They chose a lease that didn't allow dogs. I wasted my time trying to find temp care - for a cost - and having finally found someone that would take both dogs for 9 months, the owners decided they couldn't afford even a rock bottom charge. It's also not that fair on any dog, especially if the owner keeps visiting and disrupting it. 12 months in a kennel isn't good either but it's not right to call it foster care - every dog in foster care is at the expense of a pound dog's life. -
SOS rescued a pair of mature Belgian Shepherd crosses, they are the most delightful dogs. They have an enquiry from Bathurst that sounds great but need a homecheck done of course. People have already met the dogs and want to adopt and collect this coming weekend - but it is all dependent on the homecheck. If you can help - pls pm your contact details to me.
