Reported for a personal attack, I've let you off once too often. There is nothing correct about your post and there is nothing that I can learn from you. -
Advice Needed On Rottweiler And Little Dogs
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Cartersmum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wonder where my friend Juice is .... she can attest to the fact that I adore her Bull Terrier "Bon" and her previous Bull Terrier "Mason" in particular. I thought Bull Terriers were Bull Breeds - funny about that. As Yonjuro said, only in the last fortnight I was trying to assist his friend's Rotti cross. As I have said numerous times before, I spend plenty of my spare time assisting dogs - of all sizes. Still, I can talk till i'm blue in the face - and i'm probably blocked by the right people now who will just accuse me of lying if they saw this post - i'm happy if they are happy. :) -

Which is exactly what the poster is doing. Go out and get yourself some big, really big, dogs, dogmad and see things from the other side. Thanks DD, I have handled many large dogs over the years of all kinds - spent 3 years at the AWL handling only large dogs. I had a GSD cross a few years ago, she was 28 kilos but that's probably not big enough on your scale I imagine? You don't have to be a current owner of a large dog to enter this thread do you? That would count you out as well. -
Advice Needed On Rottweiler And Little Dogs

Once again no helpful advice, just bashing big dog breeds. Don't be so condescending Mantis with your wagging finger - it's not appropriate and you make yourself look stupid - I'm not big dog bashing in the slightest. I gave my advice which was not to go to dog parks right now. I won't bother telling you about the rescue GSDs and GSPs I've helped lately. You have no idea what I do in my spare time. This is how accidents happen - people don't pay attention to what their dogs are doing, are not in tune and not in control. Luckily this owner has now become switched on and is doing something about it. If they continued, there may be a horrible accident. it could be a Jack Russell but it happens to be a Rottweiler and you do need to be sensitive to the size difference - if you want the responsibility of a large dog then you need to do the right thing. -

If you need convincing that he shouldn't be near small dogs, I have posted an article in the News forum about a dog attack in the UK by a larger dog on a small dog - utterly horrific. -
What a disgusting piece of crap the attacking dog's owner is - she needs hauling through the courts and banned from owning another dog: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2358224/Bull-terrier-dog-walker-covered-blood-animal-ripped-head-family-pet-horrific-attack.html Staffordshire bull terrier and dog walker pictured covered in blood after animal ripped head off family's pet dog in horrific attack •Woman seen pulling off Staffordshire bull terrier and fleeing down street •Victim's owner Gemma Antell, 30, said attack in Warrington was 'horrific' •Says her Pomeranian dog was attacked in mother in law's front garden •Cheshire Police say officers have seized dog after 'horrendous attack' •Dog's mistress alleged to have said: 'It's not his fault - he's only a baby' By Mark Duell PUBLISHED: 12:03 GMT, 8 July 2013 | UPDATED: 18:50 GMT, 8 July 2013 1,272 shares 769 View comments A woman was photographed dragging away her blood spattered Staffordshire bull terrier - just moments after it beheaded a tiny family pet in a horrific attack. The woman - whose arms were also smeared with blood - pulled off her animal and fled down a street in Warrington, Cheshire, after it ripped off the head of a Pomeranian dog. Making A General Complaint To Council
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to chuckandsteve's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keep your dogs muzzled if they will do harm. Good luck with complaining to the council. I have small dogs and can hardly walk anywhere around my area now due to large dogs running loose from various houses with crap owners and/or no fencing. I've complained several times but nothing can be done it seems. The council has asked me to take photos of the offending dogs with a date/time on. I won't risk my small dogs though. -
Zipp Looking For A New Home
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to keetamouse's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
You'll need to work hard to cure her Demodectic mange. It's often caused by poor housing, poor diet and stress etc. I got a dog with this condition at Christmas 2011. It took 3 months to get the all clear. They are on meds and special baths and need periodic testing. Once my foster got the all clear, the vet left him on meds for 2 more weeks. He was a bad case and had survived horrific abuse although he was an older dog. I rehomed him to a very loving home and then months later he came down with it again - it got worse due to a vet misdiagnosis and wrong treatment. He was then taken to the PAWS vet and his new owners couldn't cope with the regime and he came back to me, took another 3 months across Christmas 2012 and into 2013, to cure him once more. The vet said it could happen again but hopefully not, the underlying cause of the condition could still be there. I do know of many dogs that have recovered after treatment and then they are OK forever more, it's to do with the immune system. -

I'm hoping that you won't be taking him to the dog park again until this is resolved? -
Staffie And Maltese X Shih Tzu
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to hippotamus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not blaming aggression on being undesexed but there are situations where mixing the two (desexed and undesexed) does not work. Sometimes the aggression comes from the desexed towards the undesexed. I'm suggesting starting with a more equal hormonal playing field if these two dogs are expected to happily cohabit with no mishaps. It may work, it may not. We were asked for suggestions and I have given mine, based on my experience. We don't all have to agree, and obviously we don't. -

It's not better from a health point of view, it's just more rot that you are happy to shove down owner's throats Charming as always, Please take your axe and grind it elsewhere. I've known plenty of older rescued dogs who have health issues because they weren't desexed. -
Pomeranian Having Trouble Breathing
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to yellowgirl's topic in General Dog Discussion
Poor little chap, thank goodness he's with you and getting the best care a sick little dog could hope for. I hope the vets can fix his problem as he's obviously suffered for a long time. Hope that the rest of his life can be spent in better health. :) -
Staffie And Maltese X Shih Tzu
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to hippotamus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Both are males according to the first para. I stand by my desexing advice, it's also better from a health point of view. Anyhow, I hope it works out, there's plenty of good advice in this thread. -
Personally, I believe it is unacceptable to have dogs fighting that injure each other. Two females isn't always a good option, can depend on the breed. If you aren't a breeder and don't show them, there is not reason to keep them undesexed. They should not be locked in anywhere together if they fight and you might need to consider rehoming one for their best interests.

Staffie And Maltese X Shih Tzu
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to hippotamus's topic in General Dog Discussion
It would be absolutely essential to desex the resident male dog - cannot understand why people don't do this if they are not breeders/showing. The Staffy may be fine but with an undesexed dog it is high risk with the same sex dog in the same home. Then, I would not leave them unattended together until 2 months had passed by without incident and perhaps this should never be done, hard to say without knowing either dog but there is always a risk when there is such a size difference. Never leave food or toys lying around if either dog has a guarding habit or aggression. Just so you know, I've had well over 100 foster dogs in my own home in the last few years - most arrive undesexed. I usually own up to 5 of my own dogs and also manage foster carers as well. -
Desex them immediately. Once two bitches fight, they don't get over it and you'll forever have to keep them separated.

Why? You have experience in large, powerful guarding breeds that are sharp as a knifes edge? You have experience in protection and dominant dogs? You have the power to choke off or slam down your own dog when it decides to have a go at you? No. Few people in Australia do. These romantic notions of nawwww I wanna breed the banned breeds BS sometimes makes me glad we DON'T have these dogs in the country. We're incapable of controlling the watered down stuff we have let alone strong breeds like this. BSL is crap yes, but 1) idiots keep breeding pound fodder and 2) people keep buying these dogs and then crying when they get seized. Yes it's the dog that suffers but we can't get the whole dog management thing through our thick heads in this country at all. We are miles behind a lot of western countries in training and management I think work on education before beating the same BSL is bad drum. exactly. Having just heard about the death of two small dogs (in separate incidents) because other people couldn't control their large dogs, I'd say none of the messages are getting through to the morons in the country, people that should be getting their dogs trained and under control and wearing muzzles most likely for the safety of all.

I never call the police pigs, I am related to 3 people who were in the police, two of whom won awards for bravery. It's not an easy job at the best of times. There does however seem to be too many stories of dogs being shot needlessly ...

Cat/pet Theft On Today Tonight Adelaide

Couldn't agree more. I often wonder how it happens when I read "little xxx, blind, arthritic and 17 yrs old, has run away". Has to be down to the neglect/lack of care/stupidity of owners, dogs in that state don't run away ....
