  1. And I'm sure you are fully aware of how rescue expenses are a bottomless pit. You don't know what existing debts they already had - and maybe what they raised only cleared their existing debts. Fully aware.
  2. As someone who helped a dog get out of Cootamundra quite recently, I was very impressed with the rangers and the vet, they went out of their way to help this dog! Well done to all and to you MUP, you've made a big difference to the poor unfortunates that end up in Cootamundra Pound. Keep up the good work
  3. I hear on the rescue grapevine that Rockys Rescue did very well at a fundraising event held just for them recently ... I would have thought it would be more than enough to have taken this dog on and covered his vet bills.
  4. No ethical rescue allows any dogs to leave undesexed - ever. Full stop. Just in case anyone is wondering, having Demodectic Mange doesn't prevent a dog from having vet work. PAWS rescued a dog at Christmas 2011 that I fostered - he had all his vet work done within the first couple of weeks - he was in desperate need of a dental and in unimaginable pain, so much so that it affected his heart .... He was treated for 3-4 months for Demodectic until he was clear to be adopted. He couldn't go until he was given the all clear. Nor would PAWS have let him go.
  5. Wouldn't surprise me if they did - tried to get a very sick dog out under DOC from there earlier in the year. He couldn't move. The answer was NO. He then had to endure two days with temps over 40 degrees, I thought he'd die for sure. He made it - but had to spend next 2 weeks in the vets on a drip and having intense treatment to save his life.
  6. I love Greys and Whippies (I am Italian Greyhound Rescue) but I'm pretty sure I won't be able to convince him. He's very fond of the hairier breeds.
  7. Beagles are lovely but they are hounds that follow their nose. There is a Beagle Rescue in NSW and they can't keep up with demand ... I'd always advise contacting a breed rescue and having a discussion with them, they may even have a dog from a similar situation to yours and a bit older which could suit.
  8. I have sent him a pic of a Retriever cross that I found at SADs I think it was, a beautiful black girl with very soulful eyes. So many dogs but it's trying to find the right match of course!
  9. An excellent fine but she doesn't deserve to ever own another living thing, I wouldn't even give her a plant. What a scumbag, there is NO excuse.
  10. This is horrifying, even if he had vet treatment he shouldn't have been left in the pound in this state.
  11. At the end of last year I was asked to find a dog fitting this description for my friend's partner who lives in VIC. I came across a Bearded Collie in Canberra, in need of help. I'm familiar with the breed as a friend owns them, she went and met this lovely girl - Daisy - and brought her back to Sydney for vet work etc. Daisy was around 10 yrs of age and her owners couldn't keep her due to the rental situation. She was a gentle and loving soul, still had plenty of life in her. Unexpectedly, she passed away in her sleep last weekend, having been in good health. Anyhow, her owner is very sad and would like to adopt another dog (doesn't want to foster), similar to Daisy. He has a 15 yr old Corgi male who is quite grumpy (always has been) so an incoming dog must be good natured, up to about 20 kilos and around 6-8 yrs of age. Another Beardie would be great but I've checked Petrescue, even for the ACT and NSW, and have found nothing suitable. He is in rented but has had dogs for all their lives with no issue, whilst in rented. Please let me know if you have a suitable dog - no pound dogs please unless they have been tried and tested, or background known and completely fit the requirements.
  12. It could be fine but always be cautious about these things. I've had 4 females together and they've been fine BUT I have been very careful about their initial meeting, ever watchful and so on. They lived in harmony for well over 12 months until 2 of them passed way. I still have two females but generally prefer males.
  13. As Iggy Rescue, I thought it could be an Italian x, we are prepared to help, we have a couple of VIC based carers.
  14. Archerlove - it can be much harder to have two females in harmony - I've had loads but I've also heard of lots of problems occurring. Much easier to have a male and a female. Make sure the intro is on neutral territory. Do the people who have the Lab know if she's good with other female dogs? Is yours? Then, if all is well - when you get the Lab home - you need to pretty much ignore the dog for 2 weeks - the temptation will be that the whole family wants to make a fuss of the new dog, this is not a great scenario - can cause anxiety in the new dog and issues with the original one. Like PM you will just need to let things settle and take the dogs out walking in a normal routine. Are you OK with heaps of hair - Labs are massive shedders, people don't always realise that.
  15. Please let us know if you can help with a homecheck for a small PAWS dog. Thanks in advance.
  16. I didn't have a holiday for 7 years - I owned a very sickly dog with so much medication and special needs, I did have a holiday but it just all got too hard in the end so I didn't have any more until he finally passed away.
  17. Wow, that's an amazing story of love and devotion. Navey was well loved, RIP little boy.
  18. Oh dear, so very sorry, poor little mite.
  19. Then she possibly has toothache - didn't the rescue group get her examined?
  20. OK, so some dogs I get don't each much in the beginning but I've learned not to panic as I've always had them to the vet before I get them so health checks done. It's normally just stress and change of environment and within 3 or 4 days they start eating. Quite often we have no idea what they ate before - some dogs I've had have never seen a biscuit ... It is important though to ensure they don't have any dental issues - has Perry had a dental and/or vet check in between her owner dying and you taking her on? Her owner may have been feeding her on canned food and what you could do is get some small cans of dog food - get a tablespoon of the canned food and mix it in with the biscuits. Gradually you will reduce the canned food and start mixing in the other food you have. They soon learn to love the change of diet.
  21. You'd never get over it. Owner of the dogs should have taken more care, accidents happen but quite honestly you need to do everything in your power to prevent one and leaving a gate open/and or having it able to blow open doesn't cut it with me.
