  1. Yay - thanks so much LP!! I'm sure i'll be hearing from her new owner soon, she'd be over the moon to have finally found herself a new friend.
  2. Clyde's right, the raw areas are probably burns which would be very painful. I have groomer friends and they said it's vital that the blades are changed as they heat up and burn the dog. Poor fellow. It may be possible to overcome his fears but it would need to be a very good and experienced groomer with patience. Unfortunately anyone can set themselves up as a groomer ...
  3. I've got a very fearful foster at the moment and have estimated at least 6 months of rehab. He went crazy when we first went out - i'm sure he'd never been outside a cage before, i'm pretty sure he was from a puppy farm/byb situation. It appeared he'd never seen a car, pram, bike etc as he went into a frenzy every time one passed by. 3 months on and there's been a lot of improvement but we have a long way to go for many reasons. Good luck but I think it will take a lot more time and then he may need a very special home.
  4. Very sad for you and that you couldn't be there. He's free of pain now and had a life full of love. Find a special photo and get it framed, plant something that's in bloom now and when it flowers next time, you'll think of him. Allow yourself time to grieve and then you'll be able to look back on your memories of him. Hugs to you.
  5. If anyone can help - pls ring me on 0422 498 960 asap It's a small dog THIS HAS BEEN SORTED - thanks to all.
  6. Do you know what makes him escape? Is it to get to his foster carer when they go out, or another dog for company or does he just test the boundaries to see if he can get out?
  7. I may have missed the answer from the OP but what is the reason that the dog can't stay inside?
  8. Thanks LP - i might have to snaffle her for myself ha ha!! I actually referred another potential adopter with a poodle to you as the lady i have that was interested is having to delay taking a dog until end of Oct. I will call you when i'm back in Sydney! :) xx
  9. Might be worth contacting Greyhound Rescue in Sydney run by Peter and Janet - I'm sure they'd be pleased to have a new foster carer!
  10. Not sure about the hours you are working on those 3 days but leaving her inside might be the best. I do know a friend who has been through something similar and it all becomes quite stressful to manage. When the school hols are over, could you board her for 3 days and then ask if the woman's diary has continued to complain about your dog barking because then we know she's making it up or has the wrong dog? I had a neighbour that complained about my dog barking and I had just returned from a week away - asked her if she'd heard him and she said she had a couple of times in the last few days. She was very surprised to learn that he'd been in kennels at that time.
  11. I actually couldn't get an email through to them - something wrong with their email according to Bigpond which is weird. Had left a phone msg but left no details as I thought i'd be emailing them so i'll leave it to Aloysha. :)
  12. I've just found the Deerhound Club of VIC so have left a message and will email the details.
  13. Awwwwww!! She's gorgeous Lillypilly!! Will wait to hear for more info from you.
  14. I've been contacted by someone hoping to find a non-shedding dog, must be female, no older than 5 yrs old and housetrained. home is with a semi-retired older person with a courtyard, doggie door and the dog will sleep on their bed. Person is keen to find a dog asap as they have been searching for a few months with no luck (I think they've been looking in the wrong places possibly!). There is a family member with allergies so a Poodle type would be best probably, i have recommended that this family member also comes to look at any potential dog as they will also be taking care of the dog when needed. The dog would have to be OK on their own for a few hours on some days when the owner would be at work. No pound dogs please unless we know that they are housetrained. If you know of a suitable dog, please send me a pm. I will also be looking on Petrescue of course.
  15. Is anyone near Birrong that can help with a homecheck for a Save Our Strays dog? Help would be much appreciated - thanks!
  16. So very sorry to hear this, you have done so much for Roo, to make things work. You've gone far and above what most people would have done. I too have had to do this to a dog I loved dearly but I'd run out of options. It completely broke my heart and I will be thinking of you. Do your best until the day comes, be strong and then be kind to yourself. Know that you've done all that you could and that Roo would want you to go on and be happy in your life. Hugs.
  17. The other question you need to ask yourself is - even if you can find a unit to rent with a dog - how will you entertain a young dog in an apartment? I'm imagining that you need to work and/or study or go out with your friends. A young dog can easily become bored and perhaps noisy or destructive. You could pay for someone to come and walk her in the middle of the day but this is going to add significantly to your costs.
  18. Cushings definitely causes a change in fur growth, their fur doesn't grow properly. I don't do all the vet visits for blood tests. When my Border Terrier was diagnosed, it took months of back and forth and cost around $4000 ... The vet in question then wanted me to take her back every few weeks for blood tests at the cost of $500 each time. I said I couldn't afford that. The meds were very expensive, over $100 each month and she was very well on them. Trouble is she had to have surgery a couple of times and go off the meds, then on a drip - it was horrendous. He asked me if I loved my dog - I was staggered. I had 2 dogs at that time and in just 3 years had spent thousands on their vet care at that vet. I changed vets. My new vet was horrified at what the other vet had charged me and done. At 12 they would not have put my BT through all that. Never mind, I did have her for 4 happy years. Trilostane is so much better!
  19. It's very difficult, as someone who works in rescue (volunteers really, it's not paid) I hear from people with your dilemma all the time. I'm sorry to say that it's very difficult to resolve this situation, rentals that allow pets are almost impossible to find and units are even harder. Noone's blaming you for the change in circumstances but I think you need to do what is right for the dog, be unselfish. Either let her go back to the breeder as the first and best option or let a rescue group assist you.
  20. Sorry CBL - says you can't receive any messages. Have emailed you on your private Yahoo address. Thanks!
