  1. Pets on the Park are def. a good place to start - my friend is now volunteering with them and I'll be donating a load of stuff that I've been collecting for months to them - blankets, dog beds, towels, food and so on.
  2. I'd get the vet to have a look, does she really need to have puppies at all?
  3. My friend has got a mother cat and 3 kittens living in her garden. She estimates the kittens are about 3 months of age. She has contacted both the Council and RSPCA and they are no help at all. Council doesn't have traps. The mother herself is only a young cat, almost a kitten herself and is quite friendly. She's still feeding the kittens who obviously aren't friendly as they aren't used to human contact. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  4. I've got a Toy Poodle foster that has chomped down on my fence and loosened panels due to separation anxiety!! I would not have been fostering her but the original foster carer couldn't continue due to family drama, they were home most of the day and there wasn't an issue. I work and obviously am not suitable for this dog but she has nowhere else to go ...
  5. So sad for you Kirty, what a beautiful boy - taken too soon
  6. Poor little girl, I hate to imagine those injuries and what she may look like. I hope she survives but her life may well be ruined, plastic surgery can only do so much.
  7. Wow, totally incredible. I've never heard of cats behaving in this way or being considered for therapy, it's brilliant. Makes me sad to think of how many of these potentially wonderful animals that are euthanased constantly in the overcrowded Australian shelters.
  8. A highly active breed with too much time by themselves is most likely the cause of this PLUS typical puppy behaviour .... Glad they've kept him, no need to get another puppy to keep him company - what they want is a dog that is around 4 and past the destructive stage.
  9. I have four of my own - all elderly (3 are 13+ and 1 is 11) but still enjoying daily walks etc, in varying states of medicated comfort! I then have foster dogs, I prefer to only have 1 or 2 but due to special circumstances last week, I ended up with 4 fosters. That is too much. Luckily 1 went on trial on Monday and another has a promising appointment at the weekend. The problem is there are so many dogs in need of rescue/foster care that people like me, in spite of their best intentions, can end up feeling slightly overloaded.
  10. Denise rescued an old black/tan kelpie girl from Renbury a couple of years ago - she was like a table top!! Terribly obese. We had a local foster carer and it took months to get the old girl's weight down but then Denise found her a lovely home.
  11. Doesn't particularly bother me but what REALLY annoys me is when people contact me looking for a "new puppy" or "puppydog". I could be forgiven for thinking they want a puppy but no, that's their cutesie name for a rescue dog and I usually end up saying "so you actually want a dog, not a puppy?"
  12. I'll have to ask her for her autograph And Denise at PAWS (DAP) does do truly amazing work!
  13. Very sad - I'm hoping they have all been adopted by now or given new foster homes
  14. In case this helps you feel a bit better - I've had two piles in my house this morning - it's pouring with rain outside!!
  15. I have an ex puppy farm dog here and they are def. not like the average rescue dog, they have been in far worse scenarios usually. I can only guess what this boy has been through - 8 months on and he's still improving. At first it was obvious he'd not only never been on a lead but likely not even been far out of a cage. He'd never seen a car/bike etc etc and would scream in fear. Apart from his health issues which I'm still trying to improve, he screams if anyone visits and moves suddenly and so on. On a couple of occasions for different reasons, I've had to place him with my neighbour who fosters for me - she has other dogs but a slightly different set up from mine. The last time he was there 3 weeks - she loves him and loves to have him but both times when he's returned home, he has regressed in his behaviour and screams and barks much more than when he's been settled here. This makes me wonder if it's the same for Bonnie too, it just takes Dougal a couple of weeks to settle back in with me and then he's OK (well, as ok as he'll ever be). I'm sure she'll improve but it will take a bit of time.
  16. Very sad for you, on top of everything else you've gone through recently. I always take some special treats such as BBQ chicken to the vets with me and my last 3 dogs have gone to sleep whilst enjoying a very special treat, it helps me to cope too, knowing their last few minutes were happy.
  17. could well be that. Have you changed her diet, time of feeding or walking routine? There was a storm here last night so maybe that could have caused her some fear etc? I have very elderly dogs and they sometimes have an accident inside, particularly if it is wet weather. I wouldn't make a big fuss or panic, it's probably a one off as she's a young dog. Clean the area with the right things - white vinegar/water mix or Napisan and water mix - make carpet wet and then soak up with an old towel and the smell should be gone. Many people clean with Woolwash etc and the dog can still smell it. Also, close all doors to the spare rooms.
