Finding A Breeder Of A Rescue Dog
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to HappyCamper's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
With rarer breeds I have often been able to get one breeder to identify just who bred a particular dog with a photo and have then contacted them. Pretty amazing as to an untrained eye, they may all look the same but they aren't! -
Any Advice Appreciated

2 months is not enough time, many of these traumatised dogs are still improving a year later - I speak from experience. It's a tough situation to cope with and the improvements are likely to be very slow and minimal to you but giant leaps for the dog. I'm sure you will get there, particularly now you've had some help. it's only natural to try and give the dog a lot of love but that can also be quite overwhelming for the dog and make things worse. Wishing you lots of luck! -

My Greyhounds Were Attacked Today :(
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to HazyWal's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm pretty sure it was Gosford Council that managed my friend's case a few years ago. She was walking her kelpie during a visit to the coast when a huge dog (breed unidentified) came out of it's driveway and attacked them. She was walking her dog on the lead at around 6pm and didn't see the dog coming. It got her dog by the throat and she injured herself, trying to get the dog off. The dog's owner had followed the dog out but did nothing to help. My friend rushed her dog to the nearest vet who did some emergency repair work before putting her dog back in the car and driving to Sydney trying to get to SASH but he died en route. The council went looking for the dog and found the dog. The owners pleaded for him, saying that he'd never done it before - as he was regularly loose in the area, you'd have to wonder as this was totally unprovoked and sudden - no fight occurred, the dog simply went in for the kill. Anyhow, the rangers contacted my friends and told them they could ask for the dog to be euthanased but they decided not to. I would definitely not have been so forgiving because I would never want that to happen to someone else. It's awful because you are already upset at times like this and thinking/acting on anything can be challenging but it cannot be right that dogs can be allowed to attack like that due to owner's negligence and get off scott free. Just paying a vet bill doesn't make it right. People and their pets need to be protected from these dogs. -

You poor thing, pls get yourself to the Dr and get checked as it sounds like probably due to the adrenalin, you hurt yourself more than you realised at the time. Hugs. -
Arguments For And Against Spaying And Neutering Dogs?

I get fed up of seeing idiots on Bondi Vet who left their dogs undesexed and goodness me, they end up with a litter of puppies. Last night it was someone with an English Pointer, only caught the last of the show but there were 10 puppies and they looked like they'd been crossed with a Border Collie. The Bondi Vet was seen explaining to the undesexed male Rough Collie in the same home that he wasn't the father and that there was Border Collie out there "with a smile on his face". I didn't find this remotely amusing ... -

If you have dogs then you have to make sure they cannot escape your yard for God's sake. I hope the authorities come down on them like a ton of bricks. -
Well we declined the dog, now it looks like I'm flooded in, so it wasn't meant to be. Oh bummer Can they not send it later? It was just if wanted to collect on weekend I have to drive nearly 3/4 of the way to Sydney, today or goulburn Monday I work at 3.. It's a 3+hour trip one way. I can pay carrier.... But that's a week day, I wanted dog to have some time to get used to one another before I have to leave them alone. The jrt.... Can pick a row.... Just growling.... But bigger dogs will tak him on, in his eyes he's 20feet tall and bullet proof. If you have dogs like that you are always better to take your dogs to meet another dog and ensure they will get on and have things in place to manage when you are out because when we work, we are out for a very long period, only takes 5 mins to have a nasty scrap.

OMG, poor Stan and Maddie and poor you, utterly horrific and completely unprovoked in any way. It takes a hell of a lot out of you when you have to cope with this, there's a shock factor as well as the awful distress, my thoughts are with you, it would have been so terrifying and when there are two large dogs, it's impossible to manage, you get one off and the other's still going ... Please contact the council and the police as soon as you can, these people have to pay your vet bills but these dogs are dangerous and must be stopped. Hugs to you HazyWal. -
It's a disgrace. I wrote to Westfield telling them it's about bloody time they prevented live animal sales in petshops in their malls. Asked them to Google puppy farms and see what the industry is like that they are supporting ...

Arguments For And Against Spaying And Neutering Dogs?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Safffy's topic in General Dog Discussion
As a rescuer I would never rehome an undesexed dog - no matter how old they are. Far too many unwanted puppies born all the time. As an owner, I would never want an undesexed dog in my house - I've had plenty of experience of undesexed dogs that I've rescued and I definitely don't want the experience for more than a few days at a time. From a health point of view, many of the dogs I've rescued have had health issues because they were undesexed. I had to put one to sleep an hour after he arrived - vet's assessment said his peritoneal hernia was too far gone. Lost another GSD cross after several surgeries that attempted to remove ovarian cancer. All caused because she was bred from relentlessly and never desexed - she was about 12 yrs old when she died. I've lost count of those that had pyometra happening or something else related to being undesexed. Whilst you can housetrain an undesexed male dog, it's much harder to do so if they are older when you get them, there are also behavioural issues. This is my experience - I've had 100s of dogs in my house since 2002, very few of whom arrived already desexed but they all left that way. -

THere's a small male black dog aged 3 (with a short coat) in Wyong Pound in case anyone's interested. I really wasn't sure what cross he would be, possibly Pug cross. Can't post pics in DOL from that Pound but you can Google the pound website and check him out! -

It's also hard for dogs with black heads like Foxies, people just don't like that look - I do, I used to call my black headed boy "bat face", he was a dear little man. -
This doesn't seem right. Just because the dogs were on lead doesn't mean it's ok to let them attack people. If the man lost control of his car and ran over some people - he'd still be liable. I agree - I thought that was completely inadequate as a response from the law ....

Disgusting behaviour by the dog's owner and other passers by, this poor lady. The dogs sound dangerous to come at her like they did, owner doesn't have sufficient control.

What Breed For An Older Lady?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Homeriver's topic in General Dog Discussion
The only thing with a Cavvie is that they are not best at being only dogs - that's my understanding from breeders. Cairn terriers are generally terrific little dogs. I'd avoid herders like Corgis as they are heel nippers and this can upset people with kids. -

every girl should have an LBD in my opinion - a little black dog. Don't have one right now but I love them ...
