Dog With Consistently Runny Tummy

From the Op's first post ... Oops. My dog with IBD couldn't have the ZD either, only the Ultra ZD or he got the runs still. -
Dog With Consistently Runny Tummy
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to kamuzz's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've had a dog with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, he had to be on Ultra ZD and meds, it was a lengthy time for diagnosis - special diets etc etc. Finally an endoscopy which gave the answer. You could try just the ZD diet, that's good for a lot of dogs with dodgy tums. -
I read this yesterday, they are actually taking 15 cats from death row etc and the cats will permanently live at the café in their own quarters, they aren't rehoming them BUT they are going to promote adopting cats from shelters and rescue groups etc which can't be a bad thing.

How To Stop Scratching At Door?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Beckie15's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, in your room, she's so tiny poor little mite - so cold in VIC right now, especially for a tiny dog - I'm presuming she's got a coat on? The door scratching is distress so you need to solve the problem. Get a crate from Petbarn or similar, you only need a small one and you can fill with blankets and make her very cosy - one of my dogs doesn't want to come out in the morning (he's the only one in the crate), he's so toasty and comfy. You can also put a pet heat disk in there for extra warmth (purchase from ebay). Chis are not a breed to like to be separated in this way and/or she's probably really cold, perhaps she won't be right for your household and might be best to let her go to someone who likes the breeds and their ways. I get up in the night, every night and toilet any new fosters or one of my very elderly dogs who needs help. Once foster dogs are used to the household routine, I rarely have to take them out and a 16 month old should be able to hold on. -
Thank God you found her and enjoyed a happy life together. They are never with us long enough and it's such a terrible pain when we lose them. I know she'll be with you and that you will be together again one day. Hugs to you.

Poor Pupillary Light Responses
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to 19mac's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
A dear friend just had surgery done on her cocker spaniel (rescued), who's only 6 yrs old. Sadly it didn't work. Dogs are amazing at adapting, just made sure you don't move furniture around or leave obstacles in the way and cut back all bushes in the garden (or avoid them) so there are no pokes in the eye. -
Is There A Catahoula Leopard Rescue
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to rottie mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
There was one in Renbury a year or two ago, I emailed the only breeder I could find and got no response. -
The rescue I got Sarah through had a pom cross that was handed from international student to international student when they finished their studies and went home. She was surrendered to the rescue at nearly 4 years old. Very sad, she had spent most of her life outside as well. Thank goodness for people like you giving Sarah a home she deserves. :) This issue is certainly very common in the Macquarie Uni area. Some of the local vets are finally given the much rehomed (usually young) dog to euthanase when another quick owner can't be found. I worked at Macquarie Uni a few years ago and occasionally had to try and catch a loose dog on campus, there were lots of cats too, having kittens and so on ....

List Of No Kill Pounds In Sydney
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to dogslife's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
That's interesting that they chose not to use the no-kill label then if they could. Not sure the definition you quoted is so widely accepted in the community, as it differs from the one used in many circles (including students in companion animal services), for whom only a rescue group who seriously screen their intakes can claim to be no-kill. To me, un-adoptable or non-rehabilitable leaves the door open to very subjective interpretations. The young dog I have in mind recently (and there are other cases) was perfectly fit, healthy but in need of far more training, stimulation and exercise that could be provided in a shelter environment. Being a very common cross, excitable young male just didn't appeal to any potential adopters and sealed his fate. Agreed fbaudry. I've worked with the RSPCA on two occasions recently, taking on dogs that have failed their tests (and always will fail their tests) for timidity. Both purebreds. I won't bore everyone with the details but thank God the RSPCA contacted me and are now working with some rescues. Both dogs had exceptionally lovely temperaments but were not good in a shelter environment. I also spent 3 years working at the Animal Welfare League where to my great distress, many beautiful dogs (all medium/large and mainly crossbreeds) were euthanased. They did hold some for a few weeks or months and I knew they were lovely dogs because I spent hours with them every week. On occasion, the shelter manager took a dislike to a certain dog and that would sign his or her death warrant .... Whilst you'd really hope that shelters etc don't do this, sadly many do. -

I'm sure that happens more often than we'd care to think. I know people that have worked there including one who left due to the euthanasia rate but hey, who am I to disagree with Melzawelza or Danny's Darling? -

I'm just wondering if Xrays have been done for a definite diagnosis? -
Sheltie May Need New Home - Semi Urgent
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to BDJ's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I think we can definitely recommend Miss Squish Basically a good rescue would have a thorough screening/matching process including interview, yard checks, asking for references ie from a vet, a groomer etc (depending on breed). I just took 3 months to rehome a Toy Poodle I rescued - had quite a few enquiries but I was not going to rehome this dog who'd led a horrendous life for 7 years, into the first home or to the first seemingly nice person that called. I wanted to rehome her with preferably another Poodle or playful small dog, with someone who knew the breed and the grooming requirements etc - this would be the same for a Sheltie. The home I found was worth the wait, an amazing home! I hope this dear little dog finds the perfect spot. -
Far too many have their own agendas. I don't mind being criticised for my rescue effort should it be warranted however from certain quarters on this forum, it isn't appropriate. Just because you own a dog, know a dog, do the odd pound drive, are paid to work with dogs, read books about rescue work in other countries and so on - doesn't give you any idea of how hard it is to run an ethical rescue group. I put countless hours (pretty much all my spare time) into helping people keep their pets, train their pets apart from rescuing with my own money but some people still like to take aim. I have a very, very low opinion of those people.

Sometimes life just wears you down. Sounds like she has some serious health issues and after years of battling against puppy farmers, the fact that they are still allowed to operate without much control, perhaps she's decided to save herself. I think she's done a great deal of good to bring awareness of so much cruelty but until pet shops and online sales of all these crossbreeds stop, there's no hope. It's all based on greed. These puppy farmers that sell online mislead buyers by saying they are registered breeders for God's sake

Denise is unable to help due to too many other dogs having major surgeries etc currently. -

Great idea to fundraise but if the lady's sick as well it would be a terrible strain on her to manage a sick dog that needs a lot of rehab (if diagnosis is correct). Esky would be keen to help but the costs would be very difficult for anyone to face, let alone someone with elderly dogs already needing a lot of treatment. Maybe we can perform a DOL miracle and raise some funds for this little one? I'm wondering if Xrays have been done for the diagnosis or it's just a guess? I've had dogs in pain with necks/backs misdiagnosed and have gotten chiropractic treatment and they've recovered -
So many morons hiding behind keyboards, they are everywhere and think nothing of making vile and disparaging remarks. They are responsible for much misery in the world, suicides galore and breakdowns. They all need to get themselves a life, I doubt any of them would cope with having the abuse levelled at them.

Also, where did he get the pup from? It's about time those who breed these dogs take some responsibility, they should at least be contacted .. -

SDCH is definitely not no kill, no pounds can truly claim that due to the space issues. There is also the RSPCA and AWL, you'd just have to hope that as a young dog he'd have a better chance at either of those locations. -

I'll check with Denise, I think she knows a Pekingnese enthusiast! -
I tried Blackhawk recently and my dogs seemed to get upset stomachs with it so I wouldn't buy any more. I've bought some really expensive food over the years (Canidae etc) and honestly, mine really like Optimum from the supermarket and don't have any issues with it so I think i'll just stick with it.
