  1. Sounds like a highly aggressive attack if the lady sustained severe bite wounds. I don't care where it happens, people have to keep their bloody dogs under control.
  2. If the dog can scale the fence then the fence is inadequate. I'll be interested to hear what happens.
  3. Congratulations, hard to give them up when you've had to give them lots of tlc! I just rehomed two of my long term foster dogs and broke my own heart so my other long term foster gets to stay! This is Dougal.
  4. I'll share this gorgeous boy on our Iggy Rescue Facebook page!
  5. Lovely - thank you for the update, brought tears to my eyes
  6. I know of a beautiful purebred English Pointer puppy if you decide that's what you want, he's black and white and in need of a home.
  7. The question only you can answer is "is it worth the risk"? I don't believe it is.
  8. I wouldn't use natural therapies for flea control - everyone that I've ever met that uses "natural" methods has animals with fleas. I understand the dislike of using chemicals to kill fleas but it isn't healthy for an animal to be carrying fleas either for various reasons. I've used coconut oil recently but have previously used olive oil. If your dog has fleas it will itch, left untreated - the skin will become very sore. I use Advocate or Advantage on mine (spot ons) and have no fleas. My friends often use Comfortis - oral tablet. All can be bought at differing prices but I buy on the internet to save where I can.
  9. I should also say that I rehomed a 13 yr old Pomeranian recently to a home with an English Staffy. He is an extremely gentle dog that my friend took on at age 11, from a local pound. He is good with cats and was good with her male and female Pomeranian who both passed away last year. He goes down to the beach and mingles with many other dogs, no problem. I was very concerned when my friend said she was bringing home a Staffy at first but he has proven to be a most wonderful dog. I think she was lucky though, it's not something I would have risked.
  10. I wouldn't recommend getting a much bigger dog to go with your Cairn. I am not a fan of staffy types at all and I've heard some horror stories from all directions - dog parks, owners and even staffy breeders. They are popular but are also often not so good with other animals. Look at the characteristics your partner is seeking (choice of dogs should not be based on looks alone, there should be consideration of all the breed traits). Alternatively, seek a larger rescue dog that is known to be good with small dogs. Nothing wrong with a beautiful greyhound.
  11. Wonderful - if everyone could just do something then every piece goes to make up the jigsaw puzzle of getting a dog to safety/new home. Never doubt that you've made a hugely valuable contribution today.
  12. Hope they had CCTV on and catch the sick bast--d that did this
  13. I rescue a constant parade of oldies and take the opportunity to educate everyone that an old dog still has plenty to offer. Sure, not a jogging partner but most of us have to work and I find it brings me inner peace to know that my home isn't being ripped apart, the neighbours disturbed by constant barking or garden dug up whilst I'm at work .... :) Been there, done that!
  14. This is for a PAWS dog, can you please let me know if you can help? Holbrook is on the Hume Highway, between Tarcutta and Albury.
  15. Thank you, this person doesn't want to drive too far but I will pass on all recommendations
  16. Just wondering if anyone is interested in fostering a young male husky. Please pm me. Thank you
  17. It looks like my long-term foster dogs who love each other, may have found a home together. They are in good health but are mature. The new owner wants to find a good vet closer to home - she's been travelling quite a distance to another vet and with traffic these days, it simply isn't practical. Can anyone recommend a vet in the local area? Thanks!
  18. OMG, I'm in lurve!! Will share her on the Iggy Rescue Fzcebook page
  19. Have you contacted Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue in NSW?
  20. Shared on Iggy Rescue's Facebook page - hope it goes well and I'm sure it will be heaps of fun for all!
  21. I used to use Valium for really storm phobic dogs and it isn't so good for them with the side effects. My vet changed to something that didn't make them so drowsy, more relaxed. It's also a human drug, can't think of the name of it.
  22. Great news - the very kind foster carer who picked up Tia and her cat companion was in between pets and has decided she will keep them both. She is getting the vet treatment that Tia needs and soon we hope she'll be in perfect health again.
