Imagine being this man's wife .... I'm sure this isn't the first time he's gone psycho, he's a menace and I cannot believe he was let off. Thuggery is thuggery, even if the innocent puppy ate the bread. Glad he didn't attack the puppy, about the only positive in this sad story of another very angry person.

What To Do About An Attacking Dog?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yep, Councils aren't very proactive if it is outside of their hours. I reported a loose and large unfriendly dog - it was about 10 mins before closing time so they told me to just leave it .... It was a Saturday morning. Council wouldn't be open again until Monday. Great, very helpful. -
No baths when they have stitches. You could get a facecloth and use that until the stitches are out.

Flea, Paralysis Tick And Heartworm Areas

Yep - def go to your nearby vet -
If it's a sudden change in behaviour then I'd be looking for an injury or something that is causing him to be worried. It's not normal behaviour - they know what going in the car means, they don't suddenly change where they want to sit for no reason.

What To Do About An Attacking Dog?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to dee lee's topic in General Dog Discussion
Are you walking in the area of Centennial Park? An offleash Rotti killed a small dog there last year. Any dog attacks must be reported, to protect others as well as you. I am p......d off because there was a pitty attack close to my street a week or two ago, most likely the JRT attacked actually died. The person who saw it all called the police but I checked with the council and they didn't know about it. Person won't ring the council because they "done their bit". Council wouldn't listen to me, I understand why but I just wish this other person would take 2 mins to ring them and then they'd investigate. As it is, this pitty is in a yard with a waist high fence, saw the JRT and owner crossing the road and leapt the fence. Held the traffic up and ended the JRT's life most likely. -
She Is Humping Him... What Can I Do?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to bobchic's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I consulted a behaviouralist about this behaviour in a situation where the existing female dog was humping the newly adopted and very gentle male. The new owner didn't think it was a problem. I said it was bad behaviour that shouldn't be allowed. The behaviouralist confirmed this and said absolutely discourage it, do not allow it to start/continue and do not leave the dogs together unsupervised. Get a squirty water bottle - when she starts, make the sound "Bahh". If she continues, squirt her in the face with the water. Put her in a separate room, eg a laundry for 5 mins. If she comes out again and starts up then repeat the process. Your husband must also stop the behaviour!! It isn't funny, it's about domination - none of us like to be bullied so don't let it happen to your dogs! -
Some people have no understanding at all. Very sad - an indictment on them, not your friends.

Terriers are my weakness, especially tri-colour foxy types! I sometimes find JRT types are too much having fostered a few but a JRT/Westie cross was one of the best dogs I've ever had (he was a foster then I adopted him), he loved cuddles, he smiled and he was the best ever ratter. I've just adopted a JRT/foxy cross. She can be naughty and is pretty feisty but I love her all the same. In the UK we owned a rescued Lakeland and I worshipped the ground he walked on, he was one hell of a character and ruled the house - not the best dog for first time dog owners, it was a baptism of fire! Young terriers definitely need daily walking and loads of interaction, they are super intelligent, can be very active and are very loving!

And there was noone else around during the 4 months this poor soul was starving? I wonder, for they would be guilty also.

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Oh my God. That is totally UNBELIEVABLE. How can that be right? They must be labelled dangerous dogs and their owner must be controlled or this is just going to keep happening. He's already gotten another staffy x so he'll have 4 of them getting out and killing other people's pets. -
Time wasters could include some of the types I get, enquiring about rescue dogs. Some of them would include, but not limited to: 1. People in rented who haven't checked they can get permission to have a dog. 2. People who haven't consulted their partners/families before calling. 3. People who, in a few months' time, are going overseas. 4. People who just want someone to talk to .... 5. People who want a dog in a few months/year's time.

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Swiss Girl - staffies are fantastic climbers, I would not be surprised if they hadn't scaled a fence. It could happen to me - I've got 6ft high wooden paling fencing, looking at it you would think it would be secure. But no, my neighbour has an Aussie SHepherd, she scaled the 6ft high fence for 2 years and spent many days in my house with my little dogs. Luckily she's friendly although far too bouncy for my old dogs who were always traumatised by her visits. The fence has now been heightened to 8ft. I don't see many 8ft high fences around - it isn't practical, nor should it be necessary. For those who didn't see the moronic owner of the 3 offending dogs - he has already gotten himself another dog, another staffy cross. No collar. Hole in the fence so the dog still gets out. Hence my point about the negligent authorities and an owner who has no empathy or remorse for anyone. Selfish, moronic p---k. I'm still very angry about it all. -
Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes, I found this interview very disturbing and distressing. The interviewer didn't pose any tricky questions to the moronic owner of the killer dogs. He just sat there saying the dogs were wonderful with his kids and they were very important to him blah blah. How about some empathy for the poor man who lost his beloved dogs in such a vile manner?? No sign of any empathy, remorse etc. These dogs should all be euthanased and their owner fined so massively and banned from having further dogs. The local authorities are not doing their job either - they should ensure that he does not have defective fencing and if he does, he can bring home as many new dogs as he likes but they all get impounded as they can all escape and do the same as the dogs that have gone before. I don't give a rats ---e if they are pitty crosses, I didn't really see it personally in the dogs they showed although there was plenty of staffy in them - which is not a plus either as far as I'm concerned. Whatever breed(s) they are, they all need euthanasing right now. The owner needs to be severely punished - something that he gets because he isn't getting anything right now. No sense of responsibility for the evil his dogs have done. -
Labrador Barking For Food
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Just love my dogs!'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Citronella collars aren't going to fix the problem, they often work for a while but then the dog continues to bark. Citronella collars cover an issue. You need to put some effort in to training him - have you gone onto the Training Forum as I suggested? 30 mins a day is nowhere near enough exercise for him either. I won't have any young dogs anymore (under 4 years of age) because even with an 1-2 hrs of exercise, I still had issues while at work, barking, destruction etc. I foster dogs so I have rehomed them to better situations but I now don't foster and won't ever adopt a young one, my lifestyle just doesn't allow for it. -
Another Dog Attack - Front Page Of The Border Mail
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Trisven13's topic in In The News
Yes, I'm afraid it seems that far too many people who choose to own these types of dogs don't have any sense of right or wrong behaviour. I rang the council yesterday to make sure that a pitbull attack in the next street had been reported. This dog lives at a house with waist high fencing, the gates are often left open. A young girl was crossing the road with her Jack Russell and the pitbull leapt the fence, ran straight into the middle of the road and attacked the JRT. The owner appeared but was unable to stop his dog. The traffic was held up. The witness I know called the police. The council have not received any reports of such an attack and will not investigate until they do. They do not have a dog registered at that address. The house was sold recently, I saw the pitty sitting there one day a few months ago and was horrified as the fencing was so low. I would be equally horrified at anyone attempting to contain a large dog with such low fencing - it may well be an accident waiting to happen. I should have rung the council and asked them to check and perhaps an innocent little dog would still be alive and his owner would not have endured such horror. -

Labrador Barking For Food
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Just love my dogs!'s topic in General Dog Discussion
You can actually train dogs NOT to bark for food. I worked for a huge rescue group and we had a dog that was returned for this. His foster carers trained him not to bark and he was rehomed to a unit!!! Some people on DOL talk about the Triangle of Temptation - not sure if that would work. I recommend you go on the Training forum or look it up on the net. -
I last saw a pile of human poo in the multi storey car park at Heathrow Airport. I actually didn't see it before I stepped in it, forgot that in England, you have to look down all the time to make sure you don't step in anything. We were walking back to my mum's car, dragging suitcase and chatting when squelch. I also turned into a foul mouthed wench to my mum's horror. She said "don't worry, we'll clean your shoes". No, we weren't going to do that, they went in a nearby bin and I went barefoot. A colleague was telling me the other day that their Vizsla had rolled in human poo. Apparently in their area it is very common, it is left by fishermen in the park, next to bins, on the wharf, sometimes there's paper with it. I was really horrified, where are the rangers?? CCTV?? Should be huge fines ...

As I was reading it, I thought stupid idiot, he's not keeping the dog contained. Then the dog pays the price - God I hate people like this. Your reply was excellent, well done and I hope he has a good think about it but he sounds pretty callous ....

Absolutely disgusting. I'm appalled at their treatment of the horse and the lady who loved her. It stinks, BIGTIME.

Video Of Pets Being Euthanased ..
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to tivins's topic in General Dog Discussion
There must be masses of kittens being euth'd right now, every shelter in Sydney is overflowing. My friend was trying to help someone who found 4 kittens but there is simply nowhere to take them except the pound. She's devastated. I'm just lucky that the kitten my neighbour found last week is safe with my vet (who is also the local pound), they are desexing and rehoming her. As for the dogs, I left it too late to ring up for a little old dog at the pound. He was euthanased. I have felt dreadful since I found out. I know it's real life - it shouldn't be unless there is a medical cause. None of these poor souls asked to be born and then thrown away like unwanted garbage. When will it ever end? -
I was so sad when I read this, she was obviously a very decent and caring person - the world needs more people like her, not less. A real loss. RIP sweet lady and poor lost dog.

So very sorry to hear your sad news. RIP Ellie, she was a lucky girl to be so treasured.
