Family Attacked By Dogs On Melbourne Street
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to SwaY's topic in In The News
Whatever breed these dogs are, they need to be euthanased, they are plain dangerous as are the owners - they are too moronic for words. Hope they have to pay very hefty fines and are banned from dog ownership permanently. -

I can only recommend Woodside Kennels at Duffy's Forest as I've used them and found them to be excellent. Not sure about any of the above. -
Breed Recommendations For "fenceless" Guard Dog.
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
As dog owners, we should be protecting our dogs and being safely enclosed is part of that. If we don't have our dogs safely enclosed, they can roam, attack other animals, have other animals attack them, be stolen for reasons other than ownership and so on. None of that is good so we should be doing everything in our power to prevent the aforementioned, if we are RESPONSIBLE. -

That is beautiful. I've rescued a few dogs that were terribly traumatised and they all came good, it's all about love and patience. -
I'm Not Impressed With People Today
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Simply Grand's topic in General Dog Discussion
I live near the F3 that goes north. One weekend recently, I saw a ute travelling with two dogs in the back, one was a bully and he was constantly hanginghalf his body over the side. I honked my horn and pointed, the man and his wife just laughed at me and carried on, towards the F3. Took a note of the rego no. and called the police, it was so dangerous, roads were full of all sorts of vehicles and they were travelling in the middle lane with the dog half hanging over both sides of the ute at various times. People just make me sick, the more I know of them, the less I like. Why can't they realise they are lucky to own a dog and that dogs are precious, should be looked after as carefully as a kid. Would you let your kids run round the streets and in and out of traffic, hang out the car windows unrestrained? Not too many people would do that but seem happy enough to let dogs live (and die) like that. -
So wonderful, greys are so adorable!

Increased Thirst....
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to SparkyTansy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well something's definitely wrong and some of the conditions you've mentioned are life threatening but just having a UTI is pretty uncomfortable and painful for her. Dogs that are housetrained are very upset about having to go inside the house. If it was my dog (and I have been throgh similar) I'd be rushing her to the vet or getting your OH to take her if there isn't time with a note from you describing the symptoms. I wouldn't leave it. -
What a beautiful girl, she will always be in your heart. Hugs to you, I just lost one of my beloved girls aged 12 to cancer at Christmas and it hurts like hell, you are so helpless to fight such a terrible disease. She was a lucky girl to be so loved for all the years she was with you.

I should also say that my boy was around 6 or 7 when I rescued him, he was diagnosed about a year later and passed away (not of IBD) aged around 16. He was on Salazapyrin for the last 5 years.

hi there, can't help with the vet but I can offer you some advice - my boy was eventually diagnosed with IBD after many tests. He was initially put on pred but it was terrible, his behaviour was unbearable and when I was thinking I couldn't go on after 2 years, i saw a different vet and she tried a couple of old drugs. One of them was great and he was on that for the next 5 years that he lived. It was 3 times a day (I do work) and he was on Hills Science diet which he didn't like. I occasionally gave him something differerent, perhaps once a week such as tuna and pasta. I found a website written by a lady in the US and she gave her IBD dog pumpkin and sweet potato, my dog loved them. The vet had told me nothing else but the biscuits and it was very hard as my dog was a cruelty case, he'd been starved and food was very important to him. He did end up on a drip a few times over the years, this was usually because he'd managed to get hold of some old discarded food in the park or something, as careful as I was, I didn't have control over this sort of thing/. Best of luck, it's not an easy disease to manage, esp if likeme you have other dogs.

Nothin' But A Pound Dog, But Now With A Great Future
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Adza's topic in In The News
Sutherland is low kill not no kill. -
Sorry Kylie, I know how much he meant to you and how long you've struggled with his illness. The photo of him is amazing, you looked after him and his every need, so very well. He was lucky to have found you and spent the last months with you, you gave him far more than most would have done under very difficult circumstances. My hat is off to you, for your forbearance and capacity to love. The dogs and I send you a big hug.

Absolutely disgusting, I was speechless to read this. Close them down and put those responsible behind bars, they should never operate a business or own a dog again. -
Donkey, The Goat Of Mass Destruction
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to casowner's topic in Rainbow Bridge
So sad to hear about Donkey, he got himself into so much trouble. Goats are like that but so lovable. You've had to cope with so much of late, hugs to you. I can't imagine what else you are having to go through as you've had more than your fair share of loss but am sending you healing thoughts and wishing you strength to manage. -
Welsh Springer Spaniels/cocker Spaniels ?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to cowanbree's topic in General Dog Discussion
It's always better if the wife wants to be involved with the dog because normally, the female of the household is the caregiver. All spaniels have high maintenance needs coat wise plus they do shed, really not sure if this is the right situation for one. I like them but find them too bouncy - if she finds a lab too much then I think the spaniel will be the same. -
Rescue Dog Aggression Problems With Dogs
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to breezy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
catherine.b - this dog was on Petrescue. My advice is to choose a rescue group that operates in a different way, ie keeps dogs for a longer assessment period. You want a "bulletproof" dog that is good with all other dogs and perhaps walks well on the lead. Did this dog appeal because he looked like a black Lab? If so, perhaps consider contacting Amanda of Lab Rescue. -
Rescue Dog Aggression Problems With Dogs
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to breezy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
MEH - the foster carer took him to the dog park within his quarantine period - two issues here: 1. potentially spreading parvo and other viruses 2. putting other people's dogs are at risk of being attacked/injured Dog is advertised sounding like a wonderful and well trained animal which is not the case. -
Yes, absolutely. I do start on a Saturday morning though and focus on it for the 2 days. By the time I go back to work on the Monday, most foster dogs have got it. I've only had 3 that I've had problems with - all females - 1 with brain damage, 1 severely abused and most likely locked in a garage or similar for her 2 yrs and the third a breeding dog kept in a cage for 8 yrs. Apart from the brain damaged dog, the other two eventually got it. With this dog though, the diet most definitely needs changing - her pooing is not normal.
-
I have a good housetraining method but it's pointless unless they people are really going to focus on the dog for several days and it does require a dog being walked. Sitting in poop is not normal but with a change of diet and regular walking / cleaning up of poop in the garden, she shouldn't be producing poop to sit in! Dogs certainly shouldn't be pooping during the night. I've had loads through here - one having to poop during the night would be extremely rare.
-
RIP Lucky, glad he came to you Horus.
-
My advice would be to change the diet - give her dried biscuits (of good quality) with something like tuna through it or turkey mince (low fat). As much as the natural diet is good, it doesn't seem to be working for her. Walking is absolutely vital - she's only young, running round in a yard isn't enough. Two walks a day (or more) would be great, the walking promotes pooping, mine always poop on a walk in the morning. These days I can't often manage a 2nd walk but if I do they will go, if not they can go in the garden.
