  1. OMG, what can you do to these sort of people, an absolute menace to society in general.
  2. My poor little foxy was attacked by a large Border Collie cross when the dog's owner picked my dog up (without asking I would have said no as I knew what her dog was like). She knew her dog would react badly and he did, he knocked my dog out of her arms (knocked her over) and tried to get him, he ran and then another 2 large dogs joined in and chased him. One got him in his mouth and if I hadn't run screaming like a banshee, he would have been killed. Luckily the dog dropped him in shock at my behaviour and my dog got away. Your situation sounds really dangerous so please, get some help before someone else's dog or someone else is hurt.
  3. Have you contacted the Border Collie Club in your state or googled Tri Colour Border Collie Breeder in <your state> or Australia?
  4. My beautician recently bought it for her Cattle cross. The dog ended up having a terrible fit and being rushed to an emergency vet. She has recovered and it was thought to be caused by Comfortis because she is 5 and has never had any neuro issues before. It was reported to the manufacturers and they refunded the cost of the pills, not sure about vet bills.
  5. Encouraging post from Stefie, here's wishing Mack a long life of love with you!
  6. So sorry that her time with you was too short but also glad that it was so happy and she was finally safe and relaxed. She deserved more time with you. Hugs to you, they leave great big holes in our hearts and lives.
  7. Sounds like a great dog. I agree with Anne - i never take puppies, only adult dogs and have them all trained within 2-3 days generally If you want to pm me your email addy, I'll post you my method (I've trained well over 100 dogs) Both dogs need to be desexed too.
  8. Last summer, on a day when it was around 33 or so degrees, I was driving near a local sports oval field where there was a lady jogging around with her very hairy and overweight Cavvie, tongue hanging a long way out and panting massively. I stopped my car and watched and the woman kept going so I walked over and said "excuse me" and then explained what she was doing wrong, in a nice way. Now, many people these days would just say "f... off" but this lady was very concerned about how to get home, a couple of kms up the road. I took her and her poor little dog home and she was very grateful that I'd stopped to help.
  9. A few years ago I adopted an old terrier from Sutherland Pound. She wasn't in a good way and blood tests revealed kidney failure. My vet said I would have max of 2 months with her. I went to the All Natural Vet at Russell Lea (nr Drummoyne) and they spoke to my vet and read blood tests. They prescribed Chinese Herbs - if I hadn't seen it for myself I would never have believed it possible. Within a couple of weeks, with the herbs and the special diet from the vet for kidney failure, she was a new dog, running round the oval. I had her for a year in good health until she got a stomach bug and didn't recover, she was gone within 2 weeks. I'd do it again if it happened with another dog with kidney probs.
  10. Having just read about the adopted Staffy from the RSPCA in the UK, killing the family's existing dog, I stand by what I said. Your friend should return the dog asap before the Cavvie is seriously injured.
  11. Yes, the shelters are full of SBTs and SBT or Bully type crosses. I visited Battersea Dogs Home and they had over 70 SBT types with only a handful of different kinds of dogs. The profiles say that many of them are not good with other dogs. This story is appalling, the people were crazy for taking one on and the RSPCA were really hopeless in matching the dogs. I have done adoptions of rescue dogs for years and would never in a pink fit have done this adoption.
  12. I'd say it's the wrong mix of dogs personally. Staffy types suit staffy types, they play rough. Not suited to the types of dogs I own and I wouldn't consider one.
  13. I think you are going to have to work hard at this, life in a kennel means it is harder to train. I have housetrained well over 100 dogs here (they have to go through a dog door) and lots of other dogs in other people's homes as well. Ive just changed computers and haven't moved files over. I f you pm me your email address, I will send you my housetraining method but you do need to keep at it. If you are crating him, the very first thing you do when getting him out is get him on a lead and take him to the dog door and put him through. Go out yourself and give him a treat. Treats, praise and repetition are all essential tools for success.
  14. My friend's dog (shihtzu) actually died last year by choking on a piece of chicken neck, he cut them small for his dog but for some reason on this day, the dog decided to take it down whole. My poor friend has been so distraught since then, he did the best he could and finally managed to get the piece out with tweezers and gave his dog mouth to mouth but it was too late. I stopped feeding chicken necks to mine at this point but I'd always recommend supervising your dog when you feed them, wings or bones etc and knowing what to do shoudl they begin to choke.
  15. The attack also needs to be reported to the relevant council, many people are unaware of this. Last year a pitbull (yes it was in case anyone is wondering, the owner stated it) leapt a knee high gate to attack a Jack Russell being walked across the road on a lead. It stopped traffic, the owner appeared but of course no collar, no lead and he managed to stop his dog once only to have it start again. Even though police attended, a week later the council was unaware - I rang to check. People with pitbull quickly moved out of their rented house ....
  16. Yes, never neglect ear problems, I've had more than one rescued dog in my care with burst eardrums. Shame I couldn't find their owners because I'd have burst their eardrums with the volume of what I had to say to them. With regards to the diet, I'd recommend the dried food "Natural Balance" available on www.pricelesspets.com.au. There were significant improvements in one of the rescued dog's ears once I fed her that - her ears required daily meds which had to be changed regularly and 3 surgeries in the 2.5 years I had the poor old chook. I cannot bear to think of the agony she'd endured in her life previously.
  17. How horrific. The dog (and owner) need to be locked away. i'm afraid her pathetic and moronic attitude was a symptom of today's society. Noone is to blame for anything, they immediately attack the other party, even if whatever happened is totally their fault and is it as plain as day to anyone with half a brain. Yesterday in our car park at work some stupid woman had parked two other cars in for 2 hours. Noone could find the person but when they did she moved her car and proceeded to get into an argument. She hadn't moved her car because noone had asked her to so therefore, they were at fault for not telling her she had double parked. WTF?? I reported some neighbours with a GSD to the council because twice their dog had run out of their yard and after me and my dogs as we were walking down the road (my small dogs were leashed). It turned out to be my fault and I was duly abused by the dog's owners. What did I do to cause the dog to leave it's yard and chase us? Why I was walking 3 dogs on the lead - yes, it was entirely my fault because I had 3 dogs - shock horror, I shouldn't be walking 3 x 4 kilo dogs on the lead at once.
  18. Most male dogs will pee in the presence of entire male dogs. Some will go when there are other males around, it's all territorial. Don't discourage him from going to the toilet outside - what is he supposed to do?? I don't get that at all, he's not a robot. In my housetraining method (I've trained well over 100 dogs and many other people's), dogs are trained to pee on command but still go if they need to. They are rewarded for it in fact which is why it's a good method, repetition and praise. Happy to send it to you if you send me your email addy by pm. Saying "aaahhh" if you catch him going inside is good. You also didn't answer my other questions - what do you clean up with? Does he go in the same place??
  19. When i foster a dog under 2 yrs of age, it all becomes too much so I rarely do that now - i find the young ones very demanding in terms of attention needed. I take old dogs and usually, once I've housetrained them it all goes well until they find a new home. I've had varying numbers here, I own 4 small dogs (4-6 kilos) who aer all over 10 yrs of age but two of them do like a piddle and one is cranky on the lead! Sometimes my fosters are easier.
  20. I have two males with Maltese in them (I have another 2 males that are very clean) and they will lift their legs inside for various reasons, they are housetrained. Without knowing your situation I am not sure if yours is the same scenario. Does your dog have easy access to the garden that is never blocked, ie a dog door? Do you have other dogs? Do you have visiting dogs? Are you cleaning up with white vinegar/water mixutre? Disinfectant etc is no good.
  21. Boxers are frequently not good at all with cats although they are lovely dogs generally. Greys are not always suitable for jogging - I've rescued a young one here and just walking him slowly for 15 mins was enough, he wanted to go home. He was a loving and gentle boy, great with my little dogs and if I had more space he would never have left. I love the greys but they are not suitable for letting off leash at all - you can read this about the breed. I'm thinking you want a short coated dog but not sure if you know that Labradors do shed huge amounts of hair? Somethign to think about as I've known people to give them up or stop having them in the house beause of it. A whippet is an excellent choice, I rescue Italian Greyhounds but wouldn't suggest them for your home but a whippet could be ideal!
  22. I consider it a problem when the dog barks constantly (I've had two like this, one is still with me). I've had other dogs that were nervous but when they bark, if it is during the night (they are inside the house), I do worry about disturbing the neighbours etc but it also prevents me from sleeping properly! I'd also cnosider it a problem if they were destructive or so frightened that they went through windows etc - I've heard of this happening. Def believe in drugs if suitable for dog's wellbeing. I've known a few people that have had to rush home during a storm as their dogs didn't cope.
  23. Whatever breed these dogs are, they need to be euthanased, they are plain dangerous as are the owners - they are too moronic for words. Hope they have to pay very hefty fines and are banned from dog ownership permanently.
