  1. What a beautiful boy! I hope someone falls in love with him.
  2. What a moronic owner. Even if you are dumb these days, almost everyone has access to a computer and wouldn't you read up about these things even if a breeder didn't give you the info??
  3. Such a terrible tragedy, all those poor doggies and your poor heart. I'm so glad you are still here, you'll always have them in your heart and your precious memories. Hugs to you.
  4. I'm trying to help some new owners of a rescue Dachshund. Dog has only been in the house since Saturday but has nipped 2 members of the family as it has decided mother is her property. Dog doesn't guard food or anything else and is lovely with the other dog but not visitors or members of the family. I have told them to ignore the dog for 2 weeks and the mother is to put the dog in the laundry or similar the minute the dog starts any bad behaviour. I have said they may need a behaviouralist as I don't have experience of this and they have children so potetially unsafe. Does anyone have any other ideas? They really love the dog and don't want to return it.
  5. The boys are going well, they've both started to play with toys over the weekend. They'd be feeling the weather change - radical today, it was 12 degs when I was coming home tonight. Luckily they have all those lovely coats we've been loaned. They are having another vet check on Friday, they've still got a long way to go. We will have some more pics in a few days!
  6. That page is gold. It's so frightening to think that lunatics are in charge of the asylum.
  7. That is terrible, I don't think you could ever recover if you witnessed something like that and you'd be burdened with the guilt that somehow you didn't manage to save your dog, even if it was humanly impossible. There should be laws against it and people penalised for owning and not controlling vicious dogs. happens far too often.
  8. Going by that facebook page I would say that Shmoo is probably right. They lack the insight and intelligence to know why procedures should be followed and so feel they are doing a great job by sending dogs here, there and everywhere out of pounds. And because they feel so victimised, they are not going to take advice from anyone. Steve I don't know the people involved, but people only need insurance if they have something to protect, and these people may literally have nothing to lose by selling dangerous dogs. Which is why it is so surprising that the council is offering a verbal assurance of the safety of this particular dog. Councils can be sued for millions. And the interesting thing is that they take NO responsibility for the dogs they "rescue", they say the pound staff have assessed them and know them to be worth saving. This is rubbish. I'm waiting for the day when these councils are sued for it is surely coming soon.
  9. I WANT!!! Fifi is gorgeous (I only like the Cresties with no hair) and if ever I get a cat it is likely to be a Devon or Cornish Rex, my faves! Love your Pharoah Hound too. Just out of interest, where did Fifi come from? Was it a pound or a surrender?
  10. I also know of a friend of a friend's large purebred male dog, very gentle, undesexed. He had to go to kennels in unforeseen circumstances. When she collected him he was bleeding, the kennels said they knew nothing of it, no he hadn't been with any other dogs. The vet examined him and he'd been viciously bitten and obviously attacked and died the next day .... I hope they sued the kennels, not sure what happened but it was extremely distressing.
  11. No - def. not. I used to visit a kennel in Sydney (not for boarding but another service it provided). I used to be horrified at a front yard that contained around 30 large dogs. There was never anyone around. I was always wondering what would happen if a fight broke out, there simply wouldn't be enough people to get in and fix things before a dog got hurt, I thought it was very dangerous knowing what I do. I used to work in a rescue that had dogs in groups and often had to stop fights, I won't say more except that sometimes, noone was around and awful things happened because dogs in groups behave in certain ways. It's important to understand that if you are asked the question "is your dog good with other dogs" many people will say "yes" when in reality, it's never met that many dogs and they honestly don't understand dog behaviour or know if it is that great with other dogs. It's why dog parks are so unsafe.
  12. Thank you to everyone at Scallywags, especially as you so kindly reached out and helped the two whippets boys that Iggy Rescue took a week ago. Rescue is very hard work, financially and emotionally draining and I'm sure many of us regularly contemplate giving it up to go back to a more normal life, I know I do. Thanks for all you did Tash and for all you achieved for the abandoned dogs. I hope that the remaining team at Scallywags will continue their good work in Victoria and you'll continue to go on to share your learnings and skills and help dogs in need. Best of luck!
  13. Whippet Rescue (Get Whippet) came straight to our aid by sending coats, we all help each other when needed, Cat's great!
  14. Yes - once mine had been on antibiotics for a few days. Started up again after a couple of years but it was dementia then ...
  15. I'd say Dusty was slightly worse, he had a lot more ulcerated sores than Phoenix and somehow his bones seemed slightly more exaggerated but out of the two, he was the happier and friendlier. On the first day Phoenix was very nervous and worried but he has really changed now which is wonderful to see!
  16. A poor female whippet is in Queanbeyan Pound and is freezing. Can anyone help get a coat to her (for a whippet shape) asap?
  17. This happens far more often than most of us would ever imagine. It's disgusting to do this to your pet and to the kennel owners. I wonder if a Stat Dec would cover things? I'd recommend she contacts the local Council or the DLG. There is an Afghan Rescue and I'm sure a Victorian rescue would help with the Malt x.
  18. Is there a pet supply store near to the pound that would have a coat?
  19. YAY!!!! So so happy she's been found. :cheer: How is she? and where was she found? Is she back with you guys? she was found by our volunteer driver who joined the search today. On a rangers advice she was found near bronte??? caught then brought straight dow to us.I called her rescuer in the NT who broke down with relief and joy.Clara is fine she walked in the gate tail wagging greeted everyone was jumped all over by the puppies had a drink enjoyed all the fuss then laid down on a blanket on the front porch and went to sleep.
