I've been asked to highlight this girl with nowhere to go. She will be medium sized when fully grown. A fellow rescuer with no room has seen this girl in the pound, she's calm for one so young and appears disinterested in dogs in the next runs. Obviously I'd advocate meet and greet for anyone thinking about taking her on but she is young and estimated to be 4 months of age. If anyone is interested, please let me know and I can put you in touch with the person who contacted me.

Any Rottie's With Rescue In Sydney?
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Tweety's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I know of 2 potential dogs in Sydney. 1 is a male aged 6 from memory - it's a private rehome and I was asked to help, they won't adverties anywhere. Don't have much more info on the 2nd dog but both of these Rotties live with small dogs and have lovely natures. -

Can I Ask For Some Prayers For My Furbaby?

Everything crossed for Penny - you are doing everything you can for her, i'm sure she knows that. Hard on your heart with the oldies, I do the same and sometimes think i can't go on but i do love them and can't stand seeing them discarded ... -
Matching Dogs To Foster Homes
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to kayla1's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I've just placed a poor little dog from a byb with my wonderful foster carers. They are very kind and calm people with other gentle well socialised dogs. The little munchkin is learnign from the other dogs but has a long way to go from a behavioural point of view. She's not housetrained, never been on a lead, very shy but sweet. She weighs 2.5 kilos. I was going to remove her from my carers and bring her here as they have no experience of these sorts of dogs however she is very happy and relaxed with them and I feel that as a first step in her recovery, this is probably a good start. I plan on leaving her up to 2 months there to see a gradual improvement hopefully and then reassess. her back legs were weak, she couldn't walk properly or go up stairs, that's already improved with her following the other dogs around. So yes, i normally match the dog to the carers, in this case my carers only picked her up from the vet for me to go and collect but then they took a shine to her and wanted to let her stay for a while. They have become very protective of this poor little mite. I think the two carer approach is very interesting, i've normally only had to do two carers when a dog hasn't suited the first carers or when something has happened in the carer's life and I've had to move the dog - as people say, you can see different behaviours in different houses! -
What day would you be needing them back?

Foster Pups And Cats
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Clyde's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
they are beautiful dogs! I like Neville's evil eye LOL -
You mean that she was chipped to breeders and they have rehomed her 2 weeks ago? If I haven't understood that bit right, what I would do is look up Akita breeders at the front of DOL - there aren't too many, and start ringing the ones in the same state. They often recognise each other's dogs if you have a picture. Some of them have waiting lists and you can find them a home that way.

I regularly use crates at night for new foster dogs, until they are integrated and used to the house etc. Recently I had to crate one of my longer term fosters because he kept going out in the night and barking at something. I started crating him for the night for a week or so and then gave him a chance to see if he'd improved. Whilst he hasn't been out barking in the night again, he has chosen to take himself back into the crate at night (I don't shut the door), he goes off to bed quite early in the evening and you can't get him out of it!! I don't believe in crating dogs all day and all night, that is simply cruel. When I try and tell new foster carers about using crates they are sometimes horrified at first but often find it is handy. They are actually very useful when not misused.

Sorry Tralee but I'm not getting it now. I have had vet records transferred for a number of dogs for various reasons, without a problem. THIS DOG NEEDS PAINKILLERS. Please, please get his records sent to another vet and get them to review them and prescribe painkillers accordinglhy. It will not cost you more than a consultation and perhaps less if you explain the situation. Are you in Sydney?? I can recommend a number of vets here.

My friend recently had something similar occur with a dog she adopted from me in 2010 - very lively dog normally but suddenly dog was down and hardly moving. Went to 1 vet who diagnosed dental issues and removed 15 teeth. Dog sent home WITHOUT painkillers and laid around for 2 weeks without improvement. She went to a second vet, they said pain from the mouth and gave her pain killers for 5 days, small improvement but then back to lying around. Denise from PAWS suggested my friend go back to our rescue vet who is very good and thorough and get some xrays, she had a suspicion it wasn't related to the teeth but perhaps arthritis (dog is around 10 or 11 we think). Xrays of back, hips and legs showed considerable issues with the hips and one leg with an arthritic knee. Dog was put on anti inflammatories and a course of Zydax - the change in her is amazing - she's just like she used to be. Sometimes you have to keep going until you get an answer - for a 6 yr old dog, what you are describing is of real concern and needs to get sorted -asap for his sake. I do wish old people wouldn't get young active breeds and then confine them, it's very sad and sometimes the dog learns to cope with its restrictions so sometimes you have to get them out of that but this one also has an injury and perhaps other stuff going on. I hope you find someone to help urgently.

Thanks so much Emma, you have been a great help to Ned -
Well what vile excuses for men. It was an unbiased report showing the need for culling the pigs but then the wicked part of seeing an animal slowly savaged to death and torturing it as part of the "fun". Vile, repugnant, filth.

Rescue Of 16 Puppy Farm Koolies
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Perry's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Are they being fed 4 small meals a day? I've had many starved dogs - you need to give them meals 4 times a day and then go down to 3 and so on. I don't think Satin Balls are good for long term starvation, it needs to be fixed gradually. We had two skeletal, almost dead whippets and it took over 2 months (as expected) to get them back to normal weight. We bought dietary supplements and fed them puppy food as that is the richest in nutrients. Gave them a variety of very healthy additions such as a bit of cottage cheese, vegetables, flaxseed etc all of which nourishes them. Have a look on our website at Dusty & Phoenix's blog, it's a real transformation but it did take time, it shouldn't be done quickly. www.iggyrescue.com.au -

Rescue Of 16 Puppy Farm Koolies
Her Majesty Dogmad replied to Perry's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
All the dogs are in Victoria - any written advice you can give would be much appreciated. The two I met yesterday are having problems being toilet trained so any advice would be appreciated by their owners as well. If you want to pm me your email or their emails, i'm happy to call them and have a chat about it. -
I didn't see the 10 mins walk part, that is not nearly enough. When I've had young fosters, they've gone for an hour both morning and night. I'm not able to commit to this so i don't have young dogs, I'm also not physically able to do it either. If you are going to take on a young dog, you really must get the exercise part right or it does lead to behavioural issues.
