I think most groups would agree with that one though, surely. I don't think most do actually. There are a surprising amount out there with the PR attitude.

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend

He is SO handsome -
Crossed my mind, but I couldn't find any connection apart from them having the lovey dovey hearts. Plus, design wise they are too good to be hers! exactly the same thoughts here

yup and read the top comment on the right hand side

I only have 2 dogs but I usually visit a kennel on weekends and take rescue dogs out for a play session and I was going to practise on them. Then if I manage to get anything good the rescue's can use them for profile pics if they want to. But that will mean an unknown stream of dogs. If it's too difficult I can just make sure I always have a suitable photo of one of mine every week.
-
Is it supposed to be the same dog for 52 weeks or can you use different dogs?
-
Me too. I am determined to meet one soon. My OH keeps complaining I never shut up about the lappie puppy photos.
-
Yay I'm glad! I too will give it a go then.
-
I found it where Evolving explained it in the Spitz forum I new I had seen it somewhere. I was close!
-
Not just a pug thing, I get it heaps with my sibes. Usually the wallet opens and out come all the photos too!

I don't expect dogs to be perfect at the vet, it is how the owners handle the situation that's important. I think you did very well. Even though she desperately wanted to get to the other animals you didn't give in an let her, you had control of her at all times (well maybe not her bowels ) Nothing you can do about the smells, If your dog is already sick there is no way I would expect you to wait outside on a stinking hot day

Yup definitely, I like to sit outside at cafe's so there is the chance of patting dogs that may walk past. I always ask first though.

I really want to do this challenge becasue I have decided I want to learn to take better photos. I don't think I have taken a decent photo my entire life but I really enjoy looking at other peoples photography and I know what I want to capture just not how to do it. I know the only way I can get better is to start taking photos but I don' t think I will stick with it unless I do a challenge. I am hoping that if I were to participate in this challenge other might be able to give me tips on how to do it better? My only goal is to improve and hopefully get some nice shots of my dogs, I don't think I will ever be great at it. If everyone thinks they can put up with some potentially horrendous photos for a bit (hopefully not too long) I would like to have a go. You can always put me on ignore if you can't bear to see them anymore!

This has reminded me of a situation I had once where I had picked up a Husky x Mal from the pound and took it to the vets for its shots before taking it to the kennels for its quarrantine period. He was a nice boy but since I didn't know him well yet I was being very careful to avoid everyone and everything. I was standing in the corner of the waiting room which is unfortunately quite cramped and a lady came in talking on her phone with her 3 young children. I don't even remember how her dog was behaving all I was too busy concentrating on her children. The two youngest ones ran in and ran around the room rushing up to every dog and patting it straight away. I started backing away down the hallway to get as far away as possible in the hope the children wouldn't purse me. I was glaring at the mother who was looking right at me and just kept talking on her phone the whole time, completely ignoring the kids. Luckily the oldest child grabbed and told off the other two just before they were about to rush in my direction, by this time I was boxed into a corner and I was saying please don't pat my dog etc and being completely ignored. I was petrified. I didn't think the dog would do anything bad but I didn't know that and wasn't going to take the chance. Since I had only been to this vet once before I didn't know where the back exit was and the entrance was blocked. I know now where the back exit is. I couldn't believe how the mother of these children could let that happen, makes me think she doesn't like her kids very much. Normally I have the opposite occuring at the vet, everyone is scared stiff of a large arctic breed even though they are sitting perfectly quietly..

Mine both hate having the lead attached to their collar so they are always in harnesses for walking and car trips etc, they are quite well behaved in them, maybe as they are used to them. I don't see many others at my vet with harnesses so I don't have anything to compare with but I would say I have much better control over my dogs than most of the people with leads attached to collars. I go in and weigh her then we take a seat, she sits right in front of me so I can hold the seatbelt tab on the harness, her head could not get more than about 40cm away from my knees at max i reckon. I agree if they are just on the end of a lead and have free roam thats not appropriate, but I think that having a harness or a collar would not make a real difference if they have 1-2m to wander anyway.
-
Why don't you like harnesses? Because in the closed in environment of the waiting room a harness doesn't give the owners control of where the dogs head is at. Its much easier to walk past another dogs rear end than it is to walk past a hyperactive, lunging, 'in your face' dog in a harness. I like to use the car harness because I can hold the tab on top which the seatbelt goes through and it gives much better control than just a lead. Since I am holding the tab her head can't really get more than 20cm away from me and she definitely can't lunge. What type of restraint are you talking about for one which can control where the head is at? A crate is the only way I know of and there is no way I could carry mine in a crate.

I am only just learning about lappies but I think it is where the base of the hair is white (or whiteish?) and the tips is coloured. I could have got that completely wrong though

Sammy The Anti-gardener And His Big Weekend
Gertrude139 replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
yayyyyyy been hanging out for my Sammy photo fix for ages now! please do! -
Hi Gertrude, Thanks for looking and your feedback. http://www.leemakennels.com/border and http://leemakennels.com/border go to the same page (the 'new look'). I currently have http://leemakennels.com/borders (with an 's'!) as the 'one people are supposed to visit'. I'm planning to make them both go to the same place, soon, once I've put the finishing touchers on border (without an s). Hope that makes sense? Makes sense, not sure how I managed to get stuck on the old one then when I started on the new one. I must be special!
-
Surely you have to be making that up! And how did you vision manage to survive past the home page to the sub pages, and why on earth did you go to them?!
-
Leema, I would have your blog open in a new tab if possible rather than navigate away from the site completely. Also are you aware that it looks like an old version of your website is displayed when the URL is entered with www in front of it? I am guessing it is an old version since no updates since May 2011. This means if someone goes to your blog clicks on 20 different things and then doesnt want to press 'back' until they find the original site they may go to the URL and remove /blog which will bring them back to the old site. PS. new site is much better IMHO love the clean simplistic look, easy to navigate and not too much info on the one page

Offering Alternatives To Would-be Adopters
Gertrude139 replied to Korrigan's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
The rescues I know well would respond with this sort of thing and would usually ask if the application form could be kept on file and if you would like to be contacted if they have a dog they think might be suitable for you in the future. Perhaps you drew a short straw with your chosen rescue? Regarding recommending a more local rescue, I think that would be hard in most cases, particularly at a distance. I can't imagine recommending a rescue to someone just because I know it is in the area near them, I would want to have had dealings with the rescue personally before giving a personal recommendation. Unfortunately there are always going to be rescues out there which leave a lot to be desired. I think all we can do is spread the word about the good ones. -
Just love her colour so much. Adorable little tongue pokes too. How common are domino's in Australia?
