I totally agree, except, what are they going to do when the dog's owner and residence is unknown? Still report with details you do know.

I think that some people want to believe that their rescue dog has had a harder life prior to coming to them. It feeds their need to feel like they have done something great for the dog by adopting it, and are better owners than those the dog may have had previously. This is just human nature... and there's only something wrong with the notion if you allow the dog to continue inappropriate behaviours and use prior ownership as the crutch for doing so. One of my foster failures is disabled from a scar in her brain she incurred as a wee pup in an Aboriginal camp. Evidence shows that this scar is most likely to have been caused by something physical, rather than genetic. Personally I don't care that she walks funny or is a complete turd with a strong will - she is mine and I love her to death - and she is awesome at helping me raise other foster pups. She is also well behaved when out in public. Being involved in rescue has opened my eyes to exactly how many really nicely adjusted, healthy, and happy dogs can find themselves homeless - the actual number of "problem" dogs coming through rescue is not that large really. T. I fully agree many do read to much into behaviours.

I have many but Tori is my heart rescue she came to me with her teeth snapped off n badly healed bridge of nose & these really cloudy eyes. She was terrified of big goofy males & to this day hates the smell of alchole n gets very nervous. She was imported from Wales & an indoor loved pet till family had new baby n Tori would not get in pup so was moved into their boarding kennels down the back n forgotten it seems. She is now our nanny dog always with the youngest child n sound asleep at my feet now. Guy wanted 3 grand I paid 800 n said I'd try n breed a litter n he could have half the litter but after several attempts including AI I desexed her as that's what was in her best interest yet the stupid guy still demands I owe him. Yeah right between fixing her eyes n teeth then vet assisted matings a complicated spay & the hrs of training I have put in to get her family safe he can go jump.

All seems pretty straight forward to me, dog WAS NOT under effective control & dog was being aggressive towards other dogs. To not report said dog IMHO would be extremely irresponsible & could in the long run put someone else dog in danger. To me the dogs breed or how/why it got out dose not matter whether it is a declared dangerous or a restricted breed matters none to the decision to report the incident either. Of course it will make a difference to how the situation is dealt with but that's out of the reporting persons hands & should not have anything to do with reporting or not reporting the incident.

Well not sure that sits right with me how can she bring home the very dogs that caused her mothers death n why can it b allowed.

No I was talking stray dogs rescue etc n nothing to do with pups n buying pups or adults from a breeder, trainer etc.

Quite true you can reevaluate without having the dog home but I prefer it I guess n works better for me but I guess that's really it as long as they are doing what gets them results. For me take everything back is more than just a mantra to be said over n over n your right it doesn't have to always be a case of the dog being taken in to the breeders home etc but it dose mean if that's what was in the dogs best interest that's what should happen. Ok if there is some reason like being oversea etc have a back up plan etc but the goal is getting the dog where it needs to be in the long run. Coming home may not even be in all dogs best interest either but that should not mean the breeder then dosnt further assist with retraining n reforming,

If the breeder can do the right thing by the dog without bringing it home all well n good but I personally rather reevaluate the dog myself. I don't think people should breed at all if they don't have the room or resources to take their own breedings back but that just my opinion.

Not all no kill shelters do the right thing anyway, I fostered several large breed dogs n when I informed rescue owner that 1 in particular needed pts for behavioural issues there was no telling her. Dog went on to kill another dog be returned to my care n I had it pts.

I would look in both & take the dog not that I wanted most but the dog I know I can do the most for, that will thrive in my enviroment & handle a multiply dog lifestyle the best. I think whether the dog is at whatever shelter has to come second to finding the dog that will get the best outcome coming home with you. Really I think no kill has it's own crosses to bare etc none are perfect n no matter what a dog in either shelter at the end of the day needs a home.

Yeah I said I really wasn't sure. Another idea she has is to do certain car park of magor store in centre of a few deff towns say 1 town each day of weekend n work so she can visit each town every 4 to 6 wks. She is also going to have a hydro bath where you can do it all yourself set up at side of van under a pergola

What do you guys think if there was a quality hydro, blow drier n good grooming tools available to use would anyone pay to use them at shows, agility & obediance type gatherings etc. asking as a friend has a good van set up n mainly dose house calls etc but is taking on a 2nd van & expanding her business so looking for new oppurtunities.

Anyway not here to argue just staing my opinions based on my life exsperiances.

Then they should not breed IMHO you should only breed what you can tak responsibility for keeping homed. I have same views on horse breeders n believe it or not there are many who do live by this. I have been known to even pay the airfare n the dog is still here now as she was not suitable to rehome.

You mean pure breds? Or were they all surrendered with pedigree papers? Purebreds have to come from somewhere to start with which is generally a registered breeder with pappered pedigree stock that are then bred on. I worked in rescue & it was not unusual to ph a reg breeder to be told sorry but they don't have the room to take dog back or time to help either often. Best way IMHO to judge a breeder is not on who they do or don't reg with but whether they will always take back ANY animal they breed NO questions asked & then on the daily lifestyle all their dogs live(not just the house dogs).

It amazes me how sure some posters are that their way is the ONLY right way to get the desired results whilst treating the dog with kindness n respect. I once thought I was the bees kness & that my methods would work on any n all dogs, how WRONG I was, lol. It wasn't untill I went from rottys n shephards to guardian n Asian breeds that I finally realized there is more than 1 way to get results & still know your doing the best possible for your dog. All dogs are individuals & all dog owners are individuals & no 2 living situations n home environments are identical either therefore how can anyone believe there is 1 approach fits all when everything is so defined by its own individuality is beyond me. I mainly use positive reinforcement n basic behavior modification & ignore or change subject when they do undesirable behaviors but I have 1 particular rescue who would have never started to change his ways if I'd just stuck to those training methods. He had never been taught how to walk on a leash or been socialized & he was damn dangerous on a lead to start with n I tried every method n gadget known to mankind but nothing seemed to work. A few lessens with a prong collar n now we only need a slip leash(similar working to check chain but just all leash material) & I am 100% positive we would be nowhere far along if I hadn't used a prong collar. This dog has gone from a dangerous dogs with 1 foot in the grave to a dog who can now play with most other dogs dosnt tear my shoulder out at the site of another dog n although still has a long way to go is defiantly better off for his short time in a prong collar.

I do the initial puppy vacc course of 3 needles over 6 mths but test before any annual boosters are given. Some dogs tend to need a booster at 2 yrs of age n then not again to after 5 yrs old, some need more n more less it's very individual I am finding. But I can only imagine who over vacc my boy would have been as his umunity never dropped off.

There is no missing their is a leadership role shared between 2 of my dogs & I know who is often left out or stood over for high value foods so yes there is sonwhat of a pack order going on. But with that said I make the rules & every dog defers to me at the end of the day. I see shifts in pack dynamics depending on heat cycles, pregnancies, new dogs, litters etc so it's not set in cement who takes what role within the pack. At the end of the day though no one is game to walk over Bear or Jack when they are asleep or try & take their food yet Bear will willing walk away for puppies or 1 particular bitch. I really missed the role my recently departed older male toke of always leading dogs back to me if I called & policing squabbles but his position is slowly being filled us a string but younger male as he matures. Not sure I believe I am their pack leader but I do get more say so than any dog n they all respect me but I think I'm viewed more as their safe person, feeder, fixer, slave than pack leader, lol.

Any collar can be harmful in the wrong hands it's like anything it's more about the operator than the tool or gadget etc. I personally can't stand harnesses n had some in check chains, some in flat collars n some in simple slip leads. It depends on the individual dog n handler & whether they have bothered to learn how to correctly use the restraint in question.

Well none of our active guardians are all that stranger friendly but they would never attack unless absolutely neccasary & my dogs will be fine once I am with someone where as mums maremma can do sneak attacks on specially teen males if he is not monitered. I think it may be more a territorial issue with the house guard where as the chicken guardians are bonded to the chooks so will protect them IF needed. I find most of our dogs are quite good at reading a situation & deciding whats a threat what may be a threat & what deff is not a threat at all. Mums maremma is picky with his play mates but has a couple who don't live here but visit to play n he gets on well with all but 1 of my male dog. I think it's individual thing n how they are brought up too.

..although he does need to learn to be independent ... and they need to gradually teach him to stay outside to eat his food , to stay outside and spend time chewing on a monster bone ..or digging for treats in a sandpit ...outside & alone = REALLY GOOD FOOD & things :) Yes I agree & why I posted the thread that n the level of anxiety when separated. They have him leah trained enough now to start walking him which I think will help too.
