My Pug is deaf, it happened gradually - I would start to notice changes like you have - and then there was just no reaction to any sound no matter how loud. I asked the vet and they just clapped and made loud noises and verified that she is deaf. I'm not sure that there are any tests you can take.

She wouldn't use it, she will only go on real grass. I was hoping she'd use the pads again as she's used them in the past so they're not completely unfamiliar and she is a fussy little thing! I did think about capturing some drops of her own urine and putting it on the pad to attract her to it. Would this work?

Hi everyone, I'm after some advice please. I have an 8yo female Pug who has recently had a mast cell tumour removed. The surgery was successful and no further treatment is required, however due to the location of the tumour (near her vulva) I've noticed she needs to pee more often and has recently had a UTI which was treated with antibiotics. We live in an apartment and I take her out three times a day to go to the toilet and in between she will hold on. As a puppy she used training pads but stopped using them when she was two and now if I leave them out, she won't use them. I hate the thought of her holding on if she needs to go while I'm at work so would like to train her to use the pads again, in addition to her three walks. Any tips on how I can go about this?

Hi everyone, I have a six year old female Pug who recently had her teeth cleaned (and some removed) under anesthetic. The anesthetic has damaged her kidneys so she spent three days on a drip and is now on the Hills prescription K/D canned food. She's peeing a lot more and has had a couple of accidents (incontinence) but other than that she seems like her normal self. I was hoping for some advice from anyone out there who has experienced something similar with their dog. I've been trying to steer clear of google for fear of what the kidney damage means long term, but at the same time know that I can't bury my head in the sand. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi everyone, thanks for all your responses, i really appreciate it. The vet has switched her on to Eukanuba dry food which apparently has the lowest fat content so i'll try her on that for a couple of weeks and then we got back for more blood tests to see if it has improved. I thought i'd lost her yesterday, but today she is a different dog and was being naughty this morning so i know she's on the mend. I've always been really strict with her diet and she is considered lean for a Pug, but it's probably the case of a few too many fatty human treats here and there - but no more! Puggles - she sure has!

I'm almost scared to ask this, but how serious is pancreatitis? My Pug has it and is on a special diet at the moment of Hills Prescription Canine I/D but after another visit to the vet today she appears to be worse. Why do they get it and how is it treated, is it purely through diet? These are all questions i will go into in detail with the Vet tonight but would love some feedback from fellow owners with dogs suffering the same complaint.

Great advice, thanks everyone. I'll start on the wound guard, see how she reacts, and take it from there. I have had her from 8 weeks old and she has never been mistreated, but that is exactly how she behaves, like an abused dog. She wont let you hold her or pick her up, if you do she immediately goes for her paw as it is obviously comforting.

Sorry, i meant to address that in my previous post! The vet advised has advised against it, he said it could potentially add to her anxiety as she finds licking them soothing. As she is starting to lick them more and more they are becoming infected between her toes so i think i might try the wound guard as it has anticeptic in it. What do you think?

I've been using Clomicalm and behaviour management together but it's not working, she is still on the Clomicalm. I purchased a DAP diffuser a couple of weeks ago but this seems to be having no effect etiher. I'll try the rescue remedy, do you give it to them direct or in their water? It has been very stressful, i can feel myself getting anxious around her when she is doing it which i'm sure isn't helping the situation. Maybe i'll take some of the Clomicalm myself

You name it and i've tried it - bevhaviourist, obedience training, DAP diffuser and Clomicalm but nothing seems to help with my Pug's anxiety. She obsessively licks her paws and I can't seem to break this behaviour. Is Clomicalm the only drug of it's kind on the market? What are my other options?

I've gone through a process of elimination over the last month trying to work out what it was. I washed her on the weekend and back came all the lumps....funny because her shampoo was the last thing i'd thought of and probably the most obvious!

BoxerTrouble, that is exactly what my pug looks like and i've been using dermacare. I'll switch to Aloveen and hopefully that will fix it.

What is the best dog shampoo to use on sensitive skin? I've just realised that what i'm using at the moment is brining my pug out in hives. Is there something ultra gentle I can use?

What is clicker training? Sounds interesting...i'll try anything!!

My dog uses these if she needs to go during the day while i'm at work (we live in an apartment). My problem is that often she will put her two front paws on the pad and squat...but the back end of her is on the carpet!! She does this roughly half the time. How am I supposed to teach her that she must have four paws on the pad though??

The sixth anniversary of the death of my JRT was a couple of weeks ago and i shed a few tears on that day. To be honest it was the first time i'd felt sad about her in years, usually i remember the funny or naughty things she did and have a giggle. It was the saddest day of my life when she died and took me a long time to get over. Slowly you find yourself thinking about it less and less and you'll soon refocus your thoughts on your new friend. Phew...i'm certainly glad to see i'm not alone! I've had dogs all my life, usually jack russells and have never had this problem before. She's only a petitle little pug at 5kg so i was worried about hurting her when i express them. She doesn't seem uncomfortable when the vet does it though so i guess practice makes perfect! So is it generally caused because the stools are too hard and thats why they need increased fibre? She just looks so depressed and almost embarrassed when it happens and isn't herself for a couple of days. Is it painful for them when it leaks? Thanks again, i really appreciate all the advice
