  1. Mine go to the backdoor with ANY food, even the pilfered stuff..idiots. Haha. So dinner they go outside, sit nicely and then get what they're having (easy with raw as it's usually a lump of something) and they head to opposite ends of the yard and do their thing and then swap. Then they come in and clean the cat bowls and the routine is complete! Haha.
  2. And he's a retriever! That is their main goal in life, to get more food than they really require. I feel like if my dog ate a 20kg bag of kibble he would still ask for more..haha.
  3. I love how excited the adults are too! Hahaha.
  4. Have you seen these? http://www.k9pro.com.au/online-store/dog-collars/syn-tek/ These have been amazing so far, from someone who has two super rough dogs who swim and mud bathe and chew on each others collars....absolute godsend!
  5. More dogs will crop up in their place with this type of idiot, sadly.
  6. See, I would absolutely put my name down as long as I was pretty confident we could hold the dog for a while or find a home for the dog, but if the dog is sick/not rehomable, I don't think I could take that on. I feel like if you let your sick/anti-social dog wander and it's picked up/handed over to the pound that is totally on your head. I would rather it in the pound than hit by a car or just wandering.
  7. It is infuriating! I would be worried sick if one of mine wandered off and the prospect some dingbat has decided it's too cold in the pound for my dog so better they keep it would make me so very angry. I don't care how if they think they're doing the right thing, it sucks.
  8. I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with the Facebook found pet culture I am noticing pop up. So many people outright refuse to take the dog to the vet/pound because poor puppy will be cold/alone/get put down etc etc. Personally as someone who uses Facebook a lot I would be fairly likely to see my dog posted as found, but my first port of call would still be our local vets and pounds. I worry though that people might not be part of lost/found pet groups, or might not even use Facebook. I saw a pup a week or so ago that the finders had been holding for 2 weeks! I would be raging like the crazy dog lady I am if someone had my dog for that long. I was just wondering what you do when you find an unidentified dog, is it just a select few who hold onto the dogs or is this actually becoming a big shift? Also happy to add other options to poll if I've missed any. I suspect I have...
  9. HAHAHA. That is pure evil! I hope he still has teeth! We had a tiny staffy in our yard on the weekend who climbed over no less than 6 tall backyard fences to get in and play with our dogs. I was none too impressed when we found her people who said they had just taken her in from a home with too many dogs, and suspected she might be lonely. Poor thing, but my yard is not for extras! Haha.
  10. Even then, still a risk! Determined dogs are determined!
  11. I worry Gus would sneak one into the car with him... Would be a big risk for the chicken owner, having unknown dogs about with your chookies! Even dogs who are awesome with your home chooks might be different with new ones.
  12. Gus pooped a tiny baby sock last week. I don't know how he pilfered it but he obviously did. Hahaha.
  13. Avoid Hanrob like the plague. Kepala is awesome, lots of things to do and opportunities for extra swims and plays and things to do. I do worry somewhat about care at another's home, to be honest. Something about the idea just leaves me cold.
  14. You need to train your guests as well as the dog I find. We have to ask people to ignore them and then when they are quiet give them gentle pats and if they start getting wound up to ignore them. If they jump our guests are to turn around and bump them off with a hip. Much less fun that way!
  15. We go for style over substance, hahhahaa. If anyone steals my jerk puppies they will bring them back real fast,
  16. Cause dogs are gross...haha. That is all I got as to why. Gus grew out of eating his own, but cat poop is his one true love. My best suggestion is to get it before she can get to it.
  17. I actually have no idea what Gus weighs right now... he flits between about 30 and 35 seasonally and looks fairly similar, He never looks chubby or has a big change in waistline so I think the extra could be muscle when he's out and about every day rather than sleeping on the couch as it's too cold to go out, so I feel more confident looking him over and feeling than going on his weight alone. I know Rosie could use a little more bulk on her right now, but over winter she too has lost a bit of muscle over her back and shoulders while we aren't out swimming every day and she is also couch dog, so I think that's what it is more than not eating enough in our house. They don't really get fat though, which is nice but I do like them fit and muscled more than just lean but when they decide winter walks aren't much fun there's not heaps I can do with them...haha.
  18. We have these, they are awesome. http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=coolcollarsuk&_armrs=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.Xdingo.TRS0&_nkw=dingo&_sacat=0 They're really thick, the print hasn't faded and I just replaced our 8 year old cat's tag with a new one after he lost his collar, but the tag was still awesome! Gus swims in his all through summer and it gets muddy and foul all through winter, no rust, no fading and they're so funky! This is the cheapest place we have found to buy them, they arrived in a few days too.
  19. Wow!! Is it that exciting to come to your place!! ;) Love it, I thought it was just me who read it like that. In fairness, the amount of guests we have had who have riled the dogs right up this might be a good tactic!
  20. 30kg is so specific! I guess for me, bottom line is muscle and fat are composed very differently, and one 30kg dog can be vastly different from another.
  21. For one, I'd have put the person behind a gate there! Haha. We have a similar battle, I'd be interested to see what people suggest. Our dopey one gives up after 5 mins or so of showing off his toy and whining, but apparently not everyone loves retriever spit! What the? Haha.
  22. I.don't think you can compare the two. Easier to.monitor your dogs diet than your own.
  23. We don't have set times either on purpose so we never have dogs torturing us  In our house that is an added bonus of alternating shifts and complete chaos some nights. The downside is last week Gus and Rosie missed dinner and didn't even ask me for it. I woke up at 2am wracked with guilt! Haha.
