  2. hahaha, i have a 13yr old maltese with only a few teeth.. also sleeps with tongue hanging out! it's pretty cute (we think)
  3. hahahaha, i often blame my children for the contant state of mess... alas, it is **mostly caused by "my" dogs hahaha whoops, sorry kids!
  4. please don't think dog trainers are too expensive. most, you will find, will charge around $100~$150 for a consult with written plan. sooo worth the investment! sometimes having an 'outside' view of interactions makes all the difference. good luck!
  5. oh tears in my eyes too! love this thread!! thanks do much for sharing ~ lucky benny!
  6. if you are willing to phone "little oak sanctuary" they might take her in. they have a couple of pigs.
  7. oh I am so sorry to read this thank you so much for sharing xx
  8. wow! great update! (i used to feed my dogs kangaroo meat too, until i learned that when they shoot the kangaroos they spray them with massive amounts of preservatives/chemicals to stop it rotting because the dead kangaroo will sit out in the paddock for a week or two. yuck! all those preservatives can't be good for dogs!)
  9. FYI.. We met with Paul ~ Canine coach this week. Best decision ever. We have a written plan to work on daily, and will meet up with him monthly for the next 12months (give or take). Very impressed with Paul for anyone local needs a doggie trainer :)
  10. great to hear badbee! not sure if you know you can hold onto the 'excess' of the adapti collar after you cut to fit, keep it in its original packaging in an air tight bag or container. sew the excess bits together, makes them more affordable :)
  11. For all you gorgeous doggie people playing along at home.. the neighbours don't want their doggie back. she is a lucky girl!
  12. Hi Miss2, I am southside, so I don't know anyone northside. I have a senior maltese, and the only person that she has been happy with is Shampooch. We've been going there for 7 years :) She is at Fadden shops, maybe too far but if you get stuck.. :)
  13. Thanks Cleo! I really appreciate that recommendation. I have spoken with Paul a few years back about something else, so its nice to have some feedback. I will contact him too :)
  14. Thanks all! I probably should have asked more directly.. for an initial consult are we talking hundreds or thousands! That's really what I was asking, I got the answer so thank you! Anyways, have read some of the stuff on his website, his philosophy etc. Looking forward to speaking with him :)
  15. Wow, great feedback Staffyluv!!! Maybe I should leave the dog at home and take the family up instead.. Its probably 80% us that need the training lol!!
  16. Was just curious if anyone knew a rough ball park figure, then I could just book in and discuss it with him then (was trying to avoid describing behaviour by phone, but rather just letting him see it in person). Anywho! I will call him on monday and see how we go!
  17. Does anyone know how much Steve charges for the 2hr behaviour consult? For some reason I can't get to the 'training' tab on his website, it says 'oops this page is broken'.
  18. great advice thank you everyone. i have a good friend who is a dog trainer/animal behaviour ist, i have consulted with him ~ which is why i was wanting the positive, marking type training (he is a considerable distance away so was hoping for someone closer). (our issue is not other dogs, but people! inside and outside of the home ) yes, i agree, someone that understands the breed would be great ! i'll get in contact with Steven and see what he suggests ~ sydney is not that far away, certainly doable.
  19. sorry, was trying not to give too much info as don't want to offend anyone... Yes, my CC. The issue is aggression.. Its a territorial 'protect my circle' aggression, mixed with a little bit of fear aggression. Unfortunately I was given some advice when I first took him on.. which in hindsight has been detrimental in forming the trust/relationship. So now needing a professional to help me in correcting the behaviour. He is extremely loyal and loving in the home, but super protective. Need to work on positive reinforcement of the relationship between he and I so he learns to trust that I am going to protect him, rather than he feeling it is his job to protect us. oops forgot his age.. he's around 18months
  20. Hey all, Has anyone had any experience (good or bad), and can recommend a good dog trainer or behaviourist in or near canberra? Hoping for some feedback! Looking for someone that focusses on positive reinforcement, marking/clicker training. Thank you!!
  21. Oh this post breaks my heart :( I have a CC too, an ex pound dog.. and we have our issues as well. Not nearly as described here! When I got him I took the advice of some one I trusted in managing him.. and I now deeply regret it.. They are very misunderstood breed, they really do need socialisation early. If anyone can recommend a trainer or behaviourist that works on positive reinforcement and marker training in or near canberra, l would love to know :)
  22. How great is this thread!! Love the great ideas you've all shared :) Thanks heaps all :)
