Making A General Complaint To Council
Sail_Away replied to chuckandsteve's topic in General Dog Discussion
I moved to a new suburb about a year ago and have been shocked by the number of dogs 'roaming' the streets, with owners no where to be seen. I once had this papillon follow me for a few blocks… no idea where it's home is! On another occasion I was walking down the street (without my dog thankfully) and this huge mastiff ran from a verandah right out onto the street snarling and barking at me - it came only about a metre away from where I was and I was a few houses down… it scared the living daylights out of me and I honestly thought it was going to attack me. The owner who was inside the house opened her front door and yelled out 'sorry' but did not come to get the dog!!! I no longer take my dog for walks around this area anymore... -

Those Who Are Giving Glucosamine

That looks good Sail_Away,thank you for the link. I am giving them Pernaease powder and Vit E as well as oranges or mandarines in their vege-slops, Mac just looks like he needs a bit of a boost, his spine feels a bit bumper than normal and Pen is just a little creaky overall. I'll try the stuff from the Pure Vitamins store first (as they are pretty economical) and if I don't see much in the way of a result after a month I'll order some Synflex. I would highly recommend this product, I've seen first hand the results and improvement it gave my previous dog. I think our vet or breeder recommended it to us originally. It is all natural and has Vit A & E + Omega 3 & 6 etc etc. Also because it is a liquid it is easier to measure and is absorbed into the dogs system much much quicker than tablets - I think I recall seeing an improvement in under 2 weeks whereas some tablets can take up to 6-8 weeks to work because they are metabolised and broken down more first. It is said to help rebuild the cartilage too (if you google sharks cartilage you will see some great reviews about it) - I think the VAN website also recommend sharks cartilage - so rather than just dealing with the inflammation it is meant to repair the joint too We tried lots of other things before this including Sasha's blend (powder form) but my dog would not go near it, plus it stinks! I honestly was so surprised with the improvement found in her, she no longer seized up in the cold and did not look to be in any pain which one did you get exactly? Sail_Away, there is a few different types (I think I may now have to buy the Synflex!) Um I'll have to double check (sorry was a few years ago now) - I think we just got the original one.. It had the green label on it.. It's not the one with the dog face on it but I can't remember if we got the one 'for pets' - there is an 'original for pets' - they may have changed the packaging slightly though… Here is a great website I ordered from once in WA: http://www.dogcancer.net.au/dog-arthritis-synflex.php - Lots of great info on here…. it is a bit pricey there though and I think I may have ordered off an OZ supplier on Ebay… I can't find them on there now though.. You can order direct from the USA. It is a bit $ but lasts a long time - you measure by weight of dog though. -

My last Standard Poodle got arthritis in her older years and the only thing we found that really made a significant improvement to this was a product called 'Synflex'. Here is a link to it: http://www.synflexaustralia.com.au - Just saw this website states it is not available in Australia - we purchased ours from a supplier online… I'll try and find their details... It has glucosamine and shark cartilage in it… She used to limp terribly on her back legs as she had a lot of inflammation around her knee joints and after putting her on synflex she was running around like a puppy again. Very happy with the results! -
This was on channel 9 news in Adelaide a few weeks ago: - I don't doubt there are copy cats out there and this story is like Chinese whispers gone viral causing hysteria for many who think this is 'getting out of control' but I do believe people need to be alert and open minded to the idea that there is every possibility this could happen. These 'copycats' may not be following through on anything right now and just putting 'ribbons' on gates to scare ppl but there will be some who take that extra step and take the dog. There are a lot of ppl who do unthinkable things out there at the expense of others.

Yeah great white north, not winter hehe. Yup we're in CHCH, NZ. Doesn't get as cold as Canada, but not uncommon for there to be frost on the ground at trials until 10am, and we do get snow occasionally! Elsie is is also a smooth, single coat girl, and is bald on her tummy and practically bald on her chest. I think I'll send her an email re. sizes, Elsie has a bit of a weird body shape, long and lean, but a shallow chest, and she is a small-medium breed, doesn't quite fit any of the measuring boxes :) A lot of my family are from Christchurch and it gets very cold there.. I would def get the GWN for your girl. I like that coat a lot. I think she said it's for -5 degrees and colder.. the others are for 5 degrees + which is more like our climate. My girl is practically bald all underneath too! Hardly any hair and I wasn't expecting the cold to affect her so much already so need to get a move on with an order :) Chilly Dogs do a 'long and lean' body shape coat but she said to me that she can make to fit so just email and see what she advises. Best to get it right especially considering they are coming from Canada. A friend of mine ordered the sweater and trail blazer after sending measurements of her boy to Julie and she said they fit perfectly! -

Thank you. I am more after a rain coat. Elsie looks great in hers! I agree the chilly dog ones looks great, and Hurrta also do two waterproof ones (which are handily also on free shipping on clean run), the overalls which would probably be good for a coated breed and don't look too warm, and the waterproof fleece. I'm trying to decide between the chilly dog great winter north coat, and another Hurrta coat for Elsie for this winter... The chilly dog one costs the same, but has international shipping charges hmmm.... I love the look of the Great White North coats but the climate is not really cold enough for them here in Qld… are you in NZ DiscoDobe? If so that would be a perfect coat. My girl is smooth coated with only a single coat so is really feeling the cold and we aren't even in winter yet + in Qld! haha. Julie Kelly from Chilly dogs sent me a fast reply as I wasn't sure about sizing and she was happy for me to send through measurements and she can make one to fit. As my girl is only 9 months old and has a little bit more growing to do, she said she will take that into account. -

Thank you. I am more after a rain coat. Elsie looks great in hers! The Chilly Dogs Inc have 100% waterproof raincoats - either the trail blazer or rain slicker… I've heard nothing but good things about these coats. http://www.chillydogs.ca -

Or sold…?! I responded to the email trying to push for someone to check out the property when the property is open for inspection with the public.. that way not requiring a warrant… long shot I know.. this was the response: "I am unable to advise if an inspector will be attending the property all I can say is that the area inspector and Chief inspector of operations is aware of the current situation. Kind regards, Clare Gordon" I wonder what's happened to the property?
-
I contacted the RSPCA about this property and this was their email response to me today: "Thank you for your concern. RSPCA Qld is vehemently opposed to intensive farming and breeding operations where animals are mass produced for profit with little or no consideration for their welfare. Our campaigns in these areas have made real progression and we are eagerly awaiting the implementation of the Government legislation to curb these practices in Qld. As well as campaigning, we are very interested in investigating, and where appropriate, taking action against facilities that operate under inadequate conditions that fail to meet the behavioural, social and/or physiological needs of the animals. However in order to investigate an animal welfare offence, or to obtain a warrant to inspect these types of properties, we need evidence of an animal welfare offence such as but not restricted to:-Failure to provide appropriate food, water or accommodation.Failure to provide exercise to a closely confined dog.Failure to provide treatment for any injury or disease.Any unreasonable, unjustifiable or unnecessary mistreatment that injures or causes an animal pain. The information you have forwarded, whilst concerning, does not appear to constitute an animal welfare offence. We have been made aware of this property as it has been circulated on the social network and our area inspector is aware of the current situation. Kind regards,Clare Gordon" So a few people have also notified (probably from this thread) it's a shame they won't even at least look at it - especially considering it will be open for inspection so anyone can go (without needing permit)… I'm hoping the photos shown are close to the true living conditions of these dogs as the RSPCA won't go check it out based on these pics. Just thought I'd update everyone.

I think you'll find most people here go out of their way to feed the best diet, give the most amount of exercise and stimulation and do everything they can to focus on their dogs health and well being :) Sickness and injuries are a part of life, noone is foolproof. I have a breed that is accident prone, and unfortunately for the most part not their fault. If I can spend $1 a day to NOT think about it, for me that is cheap as chips Yes Sickness and injuries are part of life. I don't know anyone who's free of challenges for life. But I have come across people who always seem to be sick or injured. Then you see them around telling the same stories; "poor me", "why is life so cruel" etc . Then they look at people who are happy and healthy and think " They just must be one of them lucky ones" (Lol). Anyone who understands dogs (or animals) will know how sensitive they are to energy. They can feel assertive calm energy and respect that. They can feel fear and panic then become fearful themselves. They can feel people's energy- positive or negative. I have nothing against pet insurance or people who use it. It's just not my thing. I work in health and that comment upsets me. It is very generalised. Have you ever met people battling with cancer? They are some of the most amazing, positive and selfless people I've ever encountered. I never hear them complain about anything, if anything it is the complete opposite and they are always greeting you with a smile and asking how you are. I have a relative who has had her fair share of health issues, along with the rest of her family where nearly every member on their side has some condition from the older through to the children and yet she is positive and never complains. In fact her husband had an operation last week and yesterday he has taken a turn for the worst and needs to be readmitted today.. but she phones and says she made some soup for us and invites us around for tea… she has lots on her mind but still thinking of others. Yes there are people who may have a slightly negative attitude but you don't know their background story, what they have been through. Some people have had very sad childhoods or events happen in their life, that could make any person feel the same way.

I did ALOT of research on insurance before I got my dog and all policies are underwritten by 'Hollards' except Petplan who is through Allianz. After reading policies and speaking with various companies Petplan was the only way to go IMO. My only regret is not taking out the insurance the day I got her (as I intended) and within the first few weeks she swallowed a bird of paradise seed (size of 50c) and had GIT upset - luckily she passed it and had some bites on her skin that I wasn't sure about so unfortunately any vomiting/diarrhoea or skin conditions are excluded from my policy for the first 12 months however, the great thing about Petplan is I can have these lifted after this time if I've not claimed for these things in this time - other companies will exclude them for life! I know some people prefer to save money for 'in case of emergencies' with their pets however, it only takes one incident and the money is gone! Plus accidents are most likely to occur in young dogs and by this time the owner wouldn't have saved enough… plus .. what happens when the dog has another accident… and another… don't see the logic in that, except for people that really can't afford the costs of insurance each month. My previous dog got bloat twice and I did not have insurance and spent about $4000 on her - no hesitation but I said to myself, I will always have it for my next dog. It's there for piece of mind. If you have an agreement with your vet and need to claim, Petplan is the only one that will allow the vet to be billed and reimburse directly rather than you paying upfront less excess.

Like I said I am not going to put in a complaint, that is just not me. If I left that word out we wouldn't be having this conversation. I'm pretty sure people complain all the time on issues which are actually legal!! Do they get anywhere.. sometimes not but I certainly wouldn't be the first to think of this. Perhaps it is something the RSPCA would like to be aware of, in the photos it does look like an nice setting with the land and creeks but there is no way to tell via a few photos of how the dogs are kept and cared for. I am on your side guys, I am against puppy farms, sometimes sitting back and just accepting something as the way it is or we can't do anything about it will never change anything. I do hope someone responsible buys this property and the dogs all go to loving homes.

Put in a complaint about what exactly? If the franchisee underquotes massively for the auction you can complain but to insinuate he has done something wrong according to the real estate institute is pretty silly. His job is to sell a property for the vendor. Like it or not, he's doing his job. OK well if you agree with how this property has been advertised then that is your personal opinion however, I believe it is unmoral to promote puppy farming and to me this has been advertised purely for this purpose.. without much focus on the actual property or land! - That is his job.. not to sell a puppy farming business. ok then complain Let us know how you go. Ta. No need to be sarcastic. I won't be putting in a complaint, I am not that type of person, I said it makes me 'feel like I should' - that is how upset I am about it. Yes it's probably not the agents fault and I'm not really blaming him, but he could have worded it differently. I am good friends with a lot of real estate agents, in particular ones from this agency so I will talk to them about it when I see them next. I don't see why people have to target certain posts or feel they need to negatively comment on what someone writes. Everyone has an opinion, there is no need to write such comments.
