  1. Hi DOLers, I've just been told by my neighbours that my 5.5 month old pup barks non stop when we are not home This has really upset me and I know she barks when we leave but it hasn't been as 'constant' lately and when we come home all is quiet and she is sitting on her bed and doesn't looked stressed at all - compared with the first few weeks we left her when very young. I give her lots of toys, kings etc and treats which I hide but she doesn't eat any of them until we get home! Just wondering whether anyone has got a cat to keep their dog company or would that not do anything? I was thinking of getting a cat at some point anyway but thought it may be good as company for my dog? Any thoughts much appreciated, I want this fixed asap.
  2. Owww I was just about to post a thread on this… I know this post is a few weeks old now though but I recently won a photography session at the pet expo and went along with my pooch and family… Saw the photos the other week and they turned out great however, the cost to put these on canvas is crazy! Looking at $900 for 30inch… I would love to have one of the family but can't decide if it's really worth this or should I just print my own - of course not as great quality but will have sentimental value as I've taken shot… I almost feel obliged to get something and I really want but $$$ eek!
  3. May I ask what is so special about the BSB compared to other car hammocks? I recently purchased a car hammock from K9 + and it is great quality but WAY too big for my small hatch even though I bought the smallest size… I also have a cheap one from reject shop that is ok but one of the straps is starting to fray… I secure my dog in a harness to the seatbelt too but like hammocks as it stops the dog falling between the seats… just wondering how great this BSB is and whether its worth the money...
  4. On Ebay 'Muckypups-shop' is including a belt strap with the Doggone Rapid Reward Treat Pouch - this one is slightly bigger than the Trek & Train bag though - I think more pockets etc...
  5. The only think good about the Blackdog ones that these others don't seem to have, is the inner lining that comes out. I can imagine these get a bit dirty - I suppose putting a plastic bag inside to line and as said clip it to the pouch would be fine. Hopefully doesn't make it difficult to get the treats out.. I think I might get the Doggone Rapid Rewards Treat pouch, I like all the compartments and sounds popular… hopefully it works well! A lady on Ebay is selling them with a belt strap too for around the waist which is handy!
  6. They look yum! I'll give them a go. Thank you!!!
  7. I just purchased a clicker and two collars from Blackdog (first time I've bought from them but came highly recommended!) I was about to buy one of their treat pouches too until I started reading some comments on them… This is making me question any with a hinge though.
  8. So maybe I should get all three then?! There mustn't be a stand out between those three then? Just a matter of preference. I have read rave reviews on the pro-k9 but to me it doesn't look that amazing… I have to say, I use the hinged ones the most. The quick draw one is nice and simple but the most expensive and hard to find. The premier one is just as good. I only have a few left and my supplier is out of stock with no ETA and I have heard rumours that they aren't making them anymore, which I hope is not true! I saw on Ebay a SA supplier who stated the supplier is no longer making the premier ones… I wonder why they would stop as they seem popular. Still undecided about this, which is silly.

  10. Hi Sheena, Yes this is the same as the 'Doggone' one… I really like the look of it, very functional? Does it stay open like the hinge ones do? I like the idea of magnetic closure as long as it stays open and closed or is easy to use...
  11. Hi Everyone, I'm looking for a treat pouch to use at obedience... Just wanted to hear which ones people prefer? I initially was going to get a Blackdog one but have read there have been some problems with the hinges... The other ones that look good are 'doggone', 'Premier' and 'Pro-K9'. Cheers
  12. I had the EXACT same questions as you when I first brought home my pup! My breed can be fairly sensitive to vaccines and too many medications etc so I was cautious not to 'overload' her immune system unnecessary. My breeder gave the C3 at 6 weeks and recommended the C3 at 12 weeks (not 10) and then 16 weeks... I was advised not to give the C5 if possible - I had ALOT of vets say they would only give a C5 for the second and third vaccination and not discuss this with me or be flexible. Lots of research to suggest KC is not necessary as it only covers for 2 strains when there is hundreds! Anyway after MUCH MUCH research I found a fantastic vet who gave me options!!! I decided to go with the Nobivac early finish at the age of 12 weeks - you can do from 10-12 weeks and then I think she was right to go out 10 days later...? Normally this vaccine comes with an intranasal KC component but I opted out of that and just had the vaccine - this is the C3 equivalent. She is now not due for booster until 15 months old. I will most likely do tri-annual vaccinations too or titre testing - my vet also believes in this method. My pup has been VERY well socialised since her final vaccination and was taken down to a dog beach the day after she was free to go out in public and met about 20 other dogs of her breed (play date) and I've never had any issues! Good luck. Not all vets have the Nobivac but I would recommend!
  13. It was always my intention to get insurance from day 1 and I'm kicking myself now that I didn't, I'm unlucky that I had these two things crop up - although now cleared looking back I was prob just being a paranoid new mum rushing off to the vets! I'll see what happens after the exclusion time frame and if they lift it or not - I'm no better off with any other insurance company now anyway as they will exclude for life. At least I'm covered for anything major anyway.
  14. Hi Heidii, I just moved to the Gold Coast too and asked the same question a few months ago... There seems to be some great vets in Ormeau but because I'm further down south it was too far for me to drive realistically. I have since found Dr Sue Redding at ExcelVets in Robina... I've been very happy with her so far. Very caring, friendly vet who actually listens to you and works with you unlike others I had spoken to in the past. She also prefers not to load dogs up on unnecessary medications if possible and try natural remedies first or less invasive treatments... She has a talkback session on the local radio station to called "Ask the vet" and I've heard ppl refer to her as Dr Doolittle! I would recommend her and I've been fairly selective of who I chose to go see, not sure if she is reproductive specialist though ... Good luck!
  15. This is exactly what I wanted to hear! Thank you for sharing. I wanted to know if anyone has had an exclusion put on and then actually had it lifted. I'm not sure if they will guarantee removing the exclusion after 12 months but I guess I could wait and see next year... Do you know if you weren't allowed to have a claim or present to the vet with these issues within the 12 months? Petplan seem pretty reasonable in their policies as opposed to other insurance companies who would have excluded after 12 months anyway...
  16. Thank you. Yes it is very broad having GIT issues excluded for a year as it could be a symptom from anything... I will wait until I get it all in writing and then give them a call to confirm. I'm not sure if it means if I can't make a claim or if it presents and I see a vet but don't submit claim, within the next 12 months... You really should call PetPlan to query the 12 month exclusion thing ... but sounds like they will only excluse those things for 12 months then you will be covered after that. Sounds pretty standard, though most insurers would NEVER cover you for those things. Do call PetPlan and confirm/check what they mean. Not having covesage for gastrointestinal upsets/vomiting/diarrhoea is pretty broad, as almost all major illnesses will present with one of those symptoms ... does that mean anytime she has that symptom they will reject the claim, regardless of the end diagnoses? With my first pup I had the free cover from my breeder, 6 or 8 weeks or whatever it was, then I continued that so she was covered from the day she left the breeder at 8 weeks. My second pup I got at 3 months and he was covered from the day he left the breeder as well, so no chance for exclusions really.
  17. Hi Everyone I recently took out the Standard policy cover with Petplan for my 5 month old puppy after reading so many PDS' and forums... I am still awaiting the paperwork to come in the mail and rang them today to find out if I will receive it before my 14 day cooling off period finishes as I would like to review it first. They received a full medical history from my vet and although only 5 months old I've had two issues with my little girl; the first when she swallowed a seed and was vomiting and the second when she had some small scab like bites on her legs, which the vet believed may be from a bacterial infection.... as I spoke with Petplan today they have now placed exclusions on anything to do with gastrointestinal upsets/vomiting/diarrhoea and also skin disorders/allergies (even though it's not either of these!)... They advised I have a 12 month exclusion - so I'm assuming that if it doesn't present again within 12 months then I will have a clean slate the following years? My question is: Those with Petplan - have you had exclusions placed on your cover when first starting a policy with them and if so did they review this after 12 months for the next years policy so you can then claim for it if it presents again? - providing there were no signs/symptoms of the illness/condition during that time... I'm mainly concerned as my breed can be prone to skin allergies and currently she has more little lumps coming up (possibly mosquito bites) which I was hoping to have checked out... I really don't want skin conditions excluded for life.. Look forward to hearing experiences.
  18. Thank you for your replies everyone! I finally found a vet who is listening to me and happy to give the C3 if I so wish! :champagne:I am taking her at 12 weeks for the 2nd vaccination - I had this vet also mention the option of the Nobivac (C3 component and I could leave out having the Intranasal spray for KC which I don't want) then my pup will not require another vaccine until 12 months and she is 'fully' vaccinated with this 2 weeks post... does anyone have any experience with the Nobivac for puppies?
  19. Hi DOLers just after some advice please.... My puppy (now 11 weeks) was first vaccinated by the breeder at 6 weeks with C3 and I have decided (with the breeders advice) to do the next vaccination at 12 weeks (C3) and then third at 16 weeks (also C3) - After speaking with a few local vets there has been much resistance to only giving my pup C3 rather than C5 however, after much research I would prefer to give only the 'core' vaccines at this age rather than overload my pups immune system with KC which doesn't cover all strains anyway... Also what are people's thoughts on taking her to the beach at 14 weeks (2 weeks post 2nd vacc) for a play date with several 'vaccinated' dogs of her breed? I don't want to be overprotective and this opportunity will be great for socialization however, my concern is the beach... is this too high a risk? People's thoughts??? Also at 10 weeks of age I took her to the vets for a check up and to administer her next worming tablets... the vet put her on Milbemax allwormer (includes heartworm) but I think I would prefer to separate heartworm as this is only required monthly and post 12 weeks worming every 3 months so surely doing something like Milbemax each month is tripling the worming dose required?? I thought I had read somewhere though that it can be difficult or problematic to change the brand of heartworm prevention given once started? Something to do with it being ineffective or is this incorrect? Wondering whether anyone else has been through this.... So much conflicting info! Confused...
  20. Hi Everyone, I am looking at different pet insurance options for my new dog and as I live in a high risk area for paralysis ticks I want to ensure I am fully covered god forbid my dog ever needs treatment for this... My understanding is that majority of the insurance companies will have an annual limit - approx $1000 for ticks (and other treatments) but from what I can gather Petplan don't have a limit per item... so the $15,000 annual amount or whatever cover option you choose could theoretically be all used on one vet bill? Just thinking that treatment for ticks would surely be into the thousands so the other companies that have a 'limit' may not be enough? Hopefully this all makes sense...

  22. I'm so envious! Not hearing any news yet about mine is proving to be quite lethal. I'm really struggling not to go back and place a third order! Have you checked your account on the Clean Run website? You can log in and check the the status of your orders. I'm not sure how Minimax found out that her order was on a stop-over in New York though LOL. She must have VIP access :) I received an email when it was shipped which had a link that you could go to and see the status of your order...
  23. I just received my order today!!!! My puppy was more interested in the box it came in though than the toys :hitself:Very impressive service though!
  24. Cleanrun still have free shipping on some toys... if you go to the page "what ships free" - SO much cheaper than buying here in Aus! I bought most of those toys a few weeks ago online from Aus so unfortunately could have saved a fortune if I only knew.. Otherwise I like 'Pets1', 'Wagsalot' 'Vet N pet direct' and 'K9 pro'... Happy shopping!
