  1. I support it. I think it should be expanded as well - edges of nat parks, etc etc. I see no problem with restricting the way we live in the name of conservation - people need houses. It's all well and good to say we shouldn't build houses but people need somewhere to live.
  2. I can't find a single case where someone has been charged for splitting flea/tick treatments. I may be looking in the wrong place though?
  3. Lol Craig - I'll be fine. I can just have a nana nap. Will be putting off my visit for another week - Sickness has struck.
  4. It's not that simple, and the DPI has never actually prosecuted it. A law is just text on paper till it's enforced. ---- There will be no research on this - it is chemistry. The two ingredients literally do not mix together - they will always separate. That said, chemistry and physics would also indicate that if you properly shake the tube, and extract portions of the liquid immediately you will draw out a mixture roughly equal to the original proportions. Test it yourself using oil and water, shake it hard, extract some immediately - you'll come out with roughly the same proportions as the overall mix even though oil is completely non-soluble.
  5. I intentionality walked my GSD 2m (or less) from cars and such, especially those with dogs. Sometimes I'd do 2 or 3 passes. If the other dog flared up or his/her body language demonstrated anything anxiety or fear I'd move away though. Was a part of my training. I don't consider it to be bad etiquette. That said, this wasn't at "dog training grounds" but in the street, at private trainers and other such locations.
  6. I wouldn't ever risk cats with my current Sibe. My previous one was okay with the cats he was raised with. And it's ridiculous at how little food they need. My old GSD would wolf down 7-8 chicken frames without blinking when I worked him. My sibe gains weight just by looking at a single one.
  7. I'll be there next week :) What time do you guys generally wrap up? I work nights (but not Monday) so by 7.30 I've already been awake for about 18 hours. EDIT: I may even look at becoming a proper member and doing some training with our Dally :)
  8. My dogs had two commands. "here" for get your arse here and sit down. "come" for when they were straying too far. I don't even remember how I taught come, I think I just would say come, they'd turn and look and start walking to me and I'd give a verbal reward and release once they were close enough.
  9. When I lived in a high tick area my dog had ticks pretty constantly with frontline plus and advantix. When I switched to permoxin the ticks stopped. Waking up to your dog being paralysed at his rear end is quite distressing, and I wouldn't want to go through it again.
  10. I get my frames from the chicken store in north rocks. Red Lea in Parra sell feet and wings cheap, but the wings I have to get whilst on sale from Carlingford Courts chicken store. The Salmon I get from Fish Feast, there is a fish feast at Carlingford and one at North Rocks.
  11. I'm not sure if slack is a strong enough word ;) me either  I got all mine back before anyone else. I was going for a job and needed my Cert, i called every day and think they finally just marked it all and sent me my Cert to get rid of me I got mine when I threatened to go to the small claims tribunal. Then the 3 assignments which were "no where in the office" suddenly turned up. Not to mention the time they moved the block training and didn't tell me - you saved me wasting a good $1000 there :p All up from start to finish I think took me over 2 years.
  12. Do you allow people to attend just to watch/chat? I no longer have a working dog, but will be importing something for sport/personal protection in the next few years and don't want to get rusty.
  13. I'm not sure if slack is a strong enough word ;)
  14. Video. Make sure you keep copies of everything. Assessments, emails, dates of submission. I did my block training in Melbourne.
  15. I was intending on stocking our freezer from him. Now I get a variety of foods from random stores. Chicken frames for $1 a bag or $7 a box - has about 30 frames. Chicken feet for $1/kg, wings for $2/kg. I get salmon heads with the bones for $3/kg. Can't find anywhere to get decent kangaroo tail from in western syd tho. I don't mind driving as I'd buy a fair bit at once so does anyone have any ideas?
  16. They definitely don't hibernate. They may go crawl into a hidey hole and not move for a while though. My pet snake will sit in his hide all winter - last winter I only saw him probably two or three times.
  17. My views on dog parks has changed. I used to be against dogs running up to others etc. Now I believe if you take your dog into a dog park, your dog MUST be friendly - especially a fenced one. I think it is unreasonable to expect other dogs not to approach yours. I don't go to them often. I haven't been to one in over 18 months but I used to take my GSD to one at midnight or so, and we took our Dalmatian in the evening once but some random dog tried to herd her and bit her ear so we didn't go back. It wasn't bad, but a ton of blood.
  18. Sounds like my Husky. I fed him a lamb heart, he licked the blood off it, sat by it for an hour or so then decided to eat it.
  19. When I first joined I remember a poll being done, and there were more men than I realised. It was under 5% - but I was a bit surprised.
  20. I think impulse buying has very little to do with it. The fact that it's socially acceptable to re-home your dogs for poor reasons is.
  21. Yes, we do and they already do. I don't believe there is anyone out there who wants the government to sit back and let a free for all happen in the animal industries. The question is where should the line be drawn as opposed to whether or not they should be able to interfere. But they do let a free for all happen in the animal industry What is the government doing to stop puppy farming/puppy factories, excessive over-breeding or dogs kept in deplorable conditions? Guess all the laws around keeping and breeding of wildlife, livestock and the legislated conditions animals must be kept in is in my mind. The problem is to enforce these laws 100% we need an increase in funding. The problem is no one wants taxes increased and to divert funds from somewhere else means that another area (probably underfunded already) will suffer.
  22. It's an animal shelter - not a high security prison. From my time in the security industry it'd take me no less than 2-3 minutes to break into any location, this includes disabling most alarms. Security is a myth, nothing is secure. Bolt cutters, wire cutters, whatever. Monitored alarms? It still takes security at least 10 minutes to respond most of the time. Regardless, kids should be given some kind of punishment. Not so keen on punishing the parents. Glad the animals are okay.
