  1. Robert Borsack is one of the very few nsw politicians who says what he means and does what he says. That's a lot more then what you can say about the majority of the rest of our representatives.
  2. I own a staffordshire bull terrier who has been 100 per cent rock solid with dogs. I have owned him since he was a pup and started obedience training very young . He has always been exposed to dogs. I believe that is the key to his temp now. He attends a fantastic dog day care at least once a week where he has become a star. They rave about him. He has been attacked twice once sustaining some pritty serious bites and not once did he fight back. Infact he picked up a ball and kept playing. He is however high energy and can rub some dogs the wrong way. Staffy s with many people never get a fair go, behaviour ignored or even encouraged in other breeds is immediately condemned from a staffy. Some people just don't like them and never will regardless of the real facts. You should however not forget there past and be a responsible owner. If you put the work in there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to raise a pup to be social with other dogs. If you go out and get another breed and think just because you didn't choose a Staffy it is automaticaly going to be tolerant of your own and other dogs you might be in for some trouble. We have several dog aggressive dogs in my neighbour hood and they ain't staffys the worst are two toy poodles followed closely by a lab.
  3. Yep thats what im saying allow your dog to growl at children. Cmon wat kind of rediculous question is that. im simply pointing out there is such a thing as context in behaviour just like every bark or wag of a tail does not have the same meaning. My dog doesnt bark but he makes a number of different vocalisations this deep growl is just one of them . I am well aware of his growl when he means business the difference is obvious to me.
  4. My fella after being home all day always greets me with a massive stretch and a long deep growl when i walk in the door. He growls in a many situations when bite aggression is no where to be seen.
  5. Poor little whippet the gate should have been locked and the owners of the two dogs should without a doubt pay for the vet bills. Though why this is generating so much interest is strange. Dog gets injured in dog fights how many thousands of times every year. PTS these dogs is way over the top unless they have a other bad attacks in the past. My dog has been bitten twice requiring vet treatment didnt want the dogs pts ,maybe the owner but not the dog.
  6. Perhaps they get them because they are mostly happy go lucky joys to be around. I know i got mine because everytime i met one they were wearing a big staffy grin and seemed to have a zest for life. thats just me though.
  7. Well not so recent. At Christmas while lined up for a picture with santa at a local obedience club. A lady while refering to diesel sad see they arnt all killers while diesel was sprawled out in the frog position nibbling on leaves and grass totally ignoring the dog growling and barking at him in the line. Then the owner of this dog laughing and saying that here dog doesnt like those types of dogs while still letting her dog carry on.
  8. staffordshire bull terrier came up at 56 for me apparently they are very wary of strangers and excellent guard dogs hmmm. But it did have GSP as my number 1 and i love them i would have one in a seccond if i had more space and time.
  9. ha ha hardys angel i love how friendly and helpful you are , keyboard warrior. To answer your question no i didnt read it very well at all because there was no value in reading it. Calm down you dont have to attack someone for no reason.
  10. what is a ASBT, and does anyone have a explanation as to how the staffordshire bull terrier has two spots on the list doesnt really make sense.
  11. wow staffys attack so many people they get two spots on the list these articles are nothing but the typical media beat up, there is no news in this article just the same garbage that comes out every few months.
  12. hope Ziggy is feeling better and back to causing mischief in no time
  13. Good thread, Obviously i have a staffy someone entering the house for my fella is normal he go's to daycare two day's a week and they have a key so they let themselves in, they always comment how hard it is to get him out of bed. At night he does seem a little more alert he has let of a pritty deep growl and bark a couple of times when there have been drunks out the front. As far a physicaly protecting me probably not i have always tried to teach him to look to me for direction in stressful situations and to let me take care of it. We were charged by a boxer out on a walk one day it knocked diesel flying and turned and growled at me i let go of my boys lead to alow him to get away while i tryed to control the dog . He simply took a couple steps back and watched the situation i was able to control the boxer for long enough for the owner to arrive and take it inside. He came back over to me when called and i was happy with that, never wantd a guard or protection dog. He just doesnt seem to have it in him but you never know i geuss.
  14. "But you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ears, as they say, you can try" this one takes the cake gonna go give my sow's ear a pat ha ha really.
  15. GWP4me " a while ago, when two staffies killed some of them, and maimed others ( LLamas and sheep). Around 1999.". Thats sad but the sheer number of staffs out there currently the number 1 or 2 registered dog depending what source you read means ofcourse they are going to be involved in some unfortunate incidents. Same as any other breed, i still dont understand how a incident involving a crossbred or some other supposed bull breed has anything to do with my pedigree dog. Are you saying he carrys some of the blame for every incident which people describe as a pit bull type dog. ha ha this place is pritty sad sometimes.
  16. Yes but that is not a breed or a generilised bull breed mut problem it is a DOG problem. I own a registerd pure bred staffordshire bull terrier not some mut crossed with god knows how many breeds whch is the common theme in these incidents how do any of these incidents effect the standing or reputation of pedigree dogs.
  17. Im trying to understand how this is such a big argument ofcourse its a combination of both the dog and the owner some dogs have more drive are more dominant nervous. its a null argument Inez stop being so condisending. Im sure mantis is very capable understanding the article what a silly thing to say but anyways carry on inparting you wisdom apon us
  18. Yeah cool was the reason i got my killer fighting dog who by the way was just charged at by a lab carrying on like a loony while the owner laughed. You know what he did in response kept on trotting along with a big smile on his face not paying it any notice. he has been bitten severly on his neck requiring vet treatmont and charged numerous times the worst he has ever done back was a single bark. the post above is a joke .
  19. So the majority of people who own american bulldogs are less then reputable people and are bogans generalise much
  20. i dont know but last time i checked a american bulldog and a bull terrier are differnt breeds .
  21. On that note it would be a good time to close this thread . Hope that poor fella recovers okay the people who helped were very brave.
  22. go back and read my posts, its got nothing to do with size its a story about a family pet killed due to someone not controling there dog. why does everyone have to go after each other on here . read my posts properly before you comment next time. I know everyone is passionate about dogs on here doesnt mean you have to be a keyboard warrior.
  23. Dont find the tragic events remotely funny obviously. ive posted my feelings on this early on, one post a few posts ago was a bit over the top and silly this whole thread has gone way out there .
  24. Dont bite Mantis not worth it just gonna have to hide my blue singlet ha ha
  25. keasarge dont worry about some posters on here they tend to get a bit carried away and go after people for almost anything. Aslong as you have spoken to your chosen breeder and are aware of the special needs of a giant breed like a wolfie and you have made contact with a agility club wish is willing to work with you and make a custom training program for you and your dog there is no problem. Good luck and have fun when you get your new pup post some photos if you can when it arrives.
