  1. No I have not read all your previous threads, I do not have the time or inclination. As I said this thread is typical of all newbies who ask for advice and then ignore it, so why ask? Standard advice given out on this forum is to seek a dog from a registered breeder whose parents have been health tested for known diseases. Other standard advice includes seek out a breeder by word of mouth, who is reputable and will support buyers after the purchase of the pup. Did you do that? You take pot luck with any breeder if you do not research adequately. Your chances of issues are far reduced by opting to go with a reputable registered breeder who is aware of potential health issues in their lines and are working at/succeeding in eliminating them. Obviously we wish this for all buyers of BYB dogs. What an idiotic statement! "Obviously we wish this for all buyers of BYB dogs" WOW, you are a nice, caring person, wishing suffering on dogs from BYB situations . My dogs did come from registered stock anyway .... I suppose you missed that part as well Seeking out a reputable breeder by word of mouth? how am I supposed to do that? Give Dogs Victoria a call, lol? It's easier said than done; What part of my post didn't you understand? I get that you're not expected to read each and every post but you've obviously read the post about my past experience with registered breeders, they health checked their breeding dogs.....hasn't worked to my advantage I'm sure there are some great breeders out there, no doubt, but word of mouth doesn't find its way to me. As for word of mouth - go to a showground when there is an All breeds show on. Approach the breeder's with dogs that are the same breed as the one you are looking for - ask them questions, ask them if they have pups, ask them if they know of any breeder's who do have dogs, etc, etc. Ring the puppy officer of the breed club you are looking for, and they can refer you to one of thier members. And yes, you can ring Dogs Vic, and ask them what breeder's advertise in thier gazette. I adopted this approach when it came to the purchase of my siberian husky (which is now blind) golden retriever and my cavalier. I rang the club pertaining to these breeds and was provided with some phone numbers, that is how I went about obtaining them.
  2. Asking advice and getting it has been appreciated, condemning me because I decided to go ahead with the pups borders on nastiness. Regarding the Jap. Spitz.....I've seen his parents and grandparents therefore I have every idea of what he is going to turn out like in regards to size & TEMPERAMENT, his parents & grandparents have a beautiful nature, I went to see this breeder on 3 separate occasions and spent a considerable amount of time with all pups and the breeding stock, that was enough to see for myself. I have no doubt he is a PUREBRED Japanese Spitz, papers or not. Once again, how does one decipher a reputable registered breeder unless you know people that have purchased the breed you are wanting which, in my case, this doesn't apply.

  4. She is tiny, I don't want her getting soaking wet, I do have a porch but the subject being about housebreaking...as I said, I'd need to be out there with her and to succeed in my quest, she would need to be put outside regularly, I'd be drying her x number of times a day as she runs around like a squirrel and doesn't listen to me in the meantime, I don't want to be outside supervising her for god knows how long each and every time, lol.
  5. A japanese spitz is a much larger dog than the pom which results in bigger puddles. A litter box or some newspapers can do for the pom, the same doesn't apply to the jap. spitz. I don't want to come home to a swamp, that's basically why I am teaching Beau to do his business outdoors, lol.
  6. He is still a purebred pup even though his breeder does not have a prefix, she does have full registration papers for his parents as well as his grandparents, a prefix does not maketh him any more of a purebred than he already his. The pom breeder does have a prefix :)
  7. Glad to hear that all is fine and that no-one got hurt as a result of someone else's irresponsible attitude. This person knew that they couldn't control the dog without a leash so why didn't they make sure that their dog was unable to get out, forethought is something that escapes so many people and ends up with tragic consequences.
  8. Don't they all think they're experts on everything? Name me a man that freely admits to knowing less than a woman on any subject? Kudos to you for having the patience to restore order when he's at work, I'd be pulling him up there and then just as he does with me when he feels that his way is best
  9. outside? :) I presume the spitz is being taught to go outside? a little dog toilet, made using fake turf ..so that texture will be a part trigger for when she's out on grass ..rather than maybe a magazine on a couch, or newspaper on a carpet :p Toilet training is a full time job ..tiny little bladders, and no chance of 'holding on' for months ... They both look cute - thanks for the photos . How old is the spitz boy? He looks tall for a puppy ... I was about to ask the same thing. Are you sure he's a pure JS? Yes I am very sure he is pure Japanese Spitz. I have seen quite a few at dog shows and owned one before so am very familiar with the breed. His breeder has both mum & dad on show, running around in the lounge room and also the grandparents which are now desexed. Both grandparents have papers, so do the parents but the breeder doesn't have a prefix per se.

The idea of using fake turf sounds good, actually I might even consider a litter box without any expectations that she will cover it, lol (only kidding, I know I know.....some cats can't even be stuffed covering their do do's, lol). Beau is 5 mths old.
  11. That's interesting, it never dawned on me that clipping a dog results in less shedding, not that I would ever resort to doing that to my pom or the japanese spitz but my neighbour owns a cavalier king charles and never allows her in the house in the summer months due to the shedding, her hubby would have a fit to find himself covered in dog fur, lol. My reasoning was that short or long, when a dog sheds it sheds irrespective of the length of its coat; I will suggest that she consider having her beloved Bella clipped if this helps with less shedding.
  12. Different people certainly do things in different ways . My husband is trying to help with the house breaking of our pom puppy, Peaches. We are teaching her to do her business on newspaper laid out on the floor. I place her on the newspaper and use the same term whenever she is about to do it, i.e. "Pee pee".....on the other hand, my husband uses entire sentences like "go on" "do your pee pee" "comeon be good girl" amongst a series of other things. How many times do I need to tell him that we are dealing with a baby and that one word at a time is all that she can muster for the time being?
  13. I didn't watch the show but there's conflicting opinions here; I was just wondering if the animals were well looked after or if they were neglected? One of the posters said that it all started with 3 undesexed cats, that's negligence on its own and it is a widespread issue, would mandatory desexing be the way to go to keep the pet population under control?
  14. You've nailed it. How many times have "Today Tonight" and "ACA" tested people's kitchen only to find it laden with E Coli? Even the children's sandwiches had high traces of E Coli which I must say, I was shocked. I bet ya if they tested my kitchen there'd be very few germs to be found even though I am the proud owner of dogs. I have seen people pick their noses and literally eat the contents, it happened the other day when I stopped at a traffic light and looked to my right and a very well dressed man, suit and all, proceeded to do just that, he must have been hungry, no time for breakfast? . I am concerned about individuals with very long fingernails too, who knows what's lurking in there? lol
  15. hahahahahahahaha LOVE IT. Be sure not to shut the door on the dog though.
  16. To be honest, I'm grossed out at the idea of people meeting someone at a nightclub (pubs, wherever) and only hours later exchanging germs in all matter of ways without giving it a second thought.
  17. I often put my plate on the floor (at home) for Kenny to finish any scraps, the dishes get washed I don't see the problem, mind you, I never told my visitors, because some might freak out & not want to have a meal at my place.
  18. I must say that I do find it a little amusing that you would be concerned with that spoon going back to the cafe and hopefully well washed for another customer; I personally would hope that that's the case for all dishes and cutlery irrespective of a dog licking a spoon. A dog may be a dog but human beings carry more transmittable diseases than any dog, has that ever dawned on you? I'm more concerned about what can be caught from other humans than from the saliva of a dog. Having said that, I don't exactly believe in french kissing my dog but have no qualms in putting my plate down for them when I have bits of chicken or meat that I especially save for them (they do have their own stainless steel bowls). Hot water and dishwashing liquid removes saliva. My dogs don't have the opportunity of rolling in or eating rotting meat but even so, boiling hot water would kill anything, lol
  19. Gorgeous Japanese Spitz you have there, Stone Cutter. They are breathtakingly gorgeous, right? Is yours a boy, girl? how old?
