  1. Another one here for Caring Canine Companions in SA. Charlie and I volunteered at an aged care home through CCC. One resident in particular was extremely hard to control and very aggressive except when I took the dog in she'd light up and beam and repeat "its a lovely world" all the time he was there. We used to get the residents to pat his fur as part of their exercise to get their fingers working. I really really hope there's a dog visiting when/if I go into aged care!
  2. I LOVE my rescue dogs and will only ever rescue from now on. Both came from the pound at separate times - they both took a bit of work to get them settled in but once settled have been wonderful dogs and I must say the dogs that have left their mark the most on our hearts. I've had BYB - best dog in the whole world! Pet Shop - lovely boys but will never do it again, Registered Breeder - gorgeous but a bit mental, dog pound - bit of work but worth every minute.
  3. I may have been one of those people keeping out of your way and moving to the other side of the road with my small dog. My once bomb-proof, small, dog-friendly dog got jumped on by an over enthusiastic "friendly" large dog whose owner wasn't in proper control of it. For a long while after that he was aggressive towards large dogs (especially if they displayed puppyish tendencies). It was a real shame and I blame myself for not seeing it coming but it happened all too quickly. Though I must admit if I saw a lovely, old, well behaved german shepherd I would just melt and goo all over it and want to give him lots of pats :D
  4. So sorry to hear this, but remember he was loved and cherished while he was here with you and that is what he will take with him xxx
  5. Here's hoping he has a lovely yummy dinner tonight!
  6. I don't know how any one can live on centrelink benefits! I take my hat off to all of you that do. You are doing a wonderful job to keep your dog healthy and I applaud you for that. I also would never skimp on medical treatment if they needed it and totally understand that the dog comes first. I'm going through an expensive time with my old dog at the moment and it does really hit the bank balance (or lack of!)
  7. It's great! I highly recommend it. I went to the 2 day seminar last year in Melbourne and enjoyed it immensely. I opted not to continue on with the rest of the course though.
  8. I'm so sorry Jelly, you did your absolute best for Roo xxx
  9. I'm so sorry for you to be in this situation. Be guided by the vet. I do know if my dogs were not eating that would be a pretty good sign to me that it may be time to let them go gently. All the best to you, 13 good long years of a warm, loving home is what most dogs would want He's had a good innings.
  10. At 8 weeks mine are left inside in our kitchen or laundry - both of which we can close off and ensure there is nothing to harm them. They have their beds, toys and food and water down and the temperature is more controlled than outside. I'd not be leaving such a baby puppy outside at 8 weeks. Also if you do leave him outside, make sure there is no way that someone could steal him. That would be very tempting if someone hears a baby puppy crying and they go to investigate.
  11. I hope you are OK Jules. Remember all the good times and that he lives on in your Enjoy the company of your other little fur-babies and let them help ease your pain.
  12. Poor puppy, it's hard watching them in pain. Bees usually leave their stinger behind so you'd notice that but I don't think wasps do. He could have trod on a prickle and have a bit of it still in his pad maybe. I do hope he gets better soon. You could probably leave him until Monday to go to the vet if he's coping with it.
  13. I wonder if he trod on a prickle or maybe stung by a wasp?
  14. Joey is now with your husband's mum, keeping her company on their journey
  15. Oh No! Are you allergic to all dogs saliva, or is it just the one dog that you are allergic to?

  20. Sorry to hear about all your troubles as well with your dog, its horrible isnt it watching them struggling I had another different type treatment done on Joey today similar too Bowen, and she didnt think much will get him 100 percent better, but like you are doing, she suggested just to keep doing whatever it is to keep him comfortable in the interim..*sigh* How old is your dog Char? Thank you for your kind offer of support x The offer is genuine pls let me know if I can help. Charlie is 12 and a cav x poodle, unfortunately the drugs have affected his kidneys now, so its a day by day thing but he is doing ok. Bowen sounds interesting, might look into that.

  22. Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you, I am south of the city. My dog has spine issues which started with him not being able to put weight on his back legs and falling over, he still can't jump up onto snything and walking is difficult but we have managed to keep him free from pain with medication, chiro and supplements. Best wishes for your little one x

    Kidney Disease

I was more suggesting adding in pain meds rather than removing the Meloxicam altogether. It means you might be able the same result over all by targeting different areas of the pain pathway but perhaps be able to lower the dose of Meloxicam that you need each day, or you might not need to increase the dose to keep him going. Using a variety of different treatments is called 'multimodal' pain therapy. If you find someone that does acupuncture they would probably have a good idea of other options to try. I wouldnt recommend anything specifically over the internet- because each dog is unique. It's more to check that your vet has considered the option since some of the drugs are relatively new, so they may need to do some research to know about them. And then once again decide if in your case its appropriate. Ah yes I see what you're saying, thank you so much for this. It's given me something to go on. :)
