Not a native american indian dog?

OK so genetic aggression and medical reasons don't exist. What if the dog killed that guy? Should it still live because it can be trained out, supposedly? Some dogs are just bad. And that's why we pray: "God grant me the wisdom to know the difference." We advocate for dogs. We also advocate for responsible dog ownership. In a lesser known regard, we advocate for calmer heads in regulation and enforcement. Which is why we can conclude; one false positive is too many, and the cost is too high. That is the point I am making. Of course, some dogs are irredeemable, that is the tragedy. I don't pray. I understand, I am all for responsible ownership and dog's getting a fair trial, however I am talking about this particular case and not aggressive dogs in general. If this were my dog I would have it pts, it is already labelled as a dangerous dog and then jumps through a window at a guy who was angry and attacked him viciously. His owner sounds like a jerk that ignored the warnings and rules and jeopardised not only this dog's life but every person this dog came close to. I feel this was the right decision.

Bit of a generalisation there don't cha think? Nope! Generally, dogs are PTS for convenience and cost. Sad but true. OK so genetic aggression and medical reasons don't exist. What if the dog killed that guy? Should it still live because it can be trained out, supposedly? Some dogs are just bad.

Best you don't raise your voice in anger to someonme with a Maremma in tow. I have seen it often enough, heard similar stories from others, and appraise all potential puppy owners of the fact. If my maremma was already on paper as a dangerous dog and then he jumped through the window and viciously attacked someone because they were annoyed with me, he'd be pts. He's protected me on a number of occasions but not once has he gotten physical. Also I did say viciously attack which is what the dog did, I don't consider a bite or two a vicious attack but the dog mauled this person by the sound of it. Its overreaction is scary and the dog should be put down. Firstly you shouldn't put Maremma and dangerous dog in the same sentence. Secondly, Maremma's will react in the manner I have described. I've seen it first hand, several times, after hearing told of it. I have been the recipient of other Maremma staring me down in the same fashion. Lastly, you should be aware that Maremma will use their own discretion when it comes to their innate sense of guarding. Maremmas do not cope with having their role as guardian usurped. The best you can do is make allowances for their active guarding behaviour and never become complacent. And sadly, it would be an over-reaction to PTS. Just as a friendly dog can be taught to attack, an unfriendly dog can be taught not to attack. Bit of a generalisation there don't cha think?

PTS is a last resort, whatever the circumstances. I've made that mistake once and I won't be doing it again. Best you don't raise your voice in anger to someonme with a Maremma in tow. I have seen it often enough, heard similar stories from others, and appraise all potential puppy owners of the fact. As I said, its best to have a witness If my maremma was already on paper as a dangerous dog and then he jumped through the window and viciously attacked someone because they were annoyed with me, he'd be pts. He's protected me on a number of occasions but not once has he gotten physical. I would put my own dog down if it viciously attacked someone that hadn't laid a violent hand on me. People should be able to have heated conversations and be angry without a dog jumping through a car window to attack them. This dog should have been under way more control and is paying for its owner's foolishness.

it's just risky buying a house and then applying and being denied. We've been discussing it and we like the freedom NSW has with dog laws. I think my sister is going to move there alone haha

What does the kennel license entail? In Vic i know you have to have kennels and the such.

Just looking at the pics again and they could be Histiocytomas but I would recommend that your vet does a biopsy to rule out cancer or the other the baddies.

What a lovely story! I'm so glad that it had such a wonderful outcome :) Good people all round, Polar is a lucky girl!

I had a kelpie allergic to eggs that would get blisters if he ate them, usually on his sides though and then his hair would fall off. Could be a similar thing.

And we have a winner

I told mum what the woman said and she was like "She obviously doesn't see you playing the rare dog breed game on DOL"

I am not understanding how this question is relevant to the answer. The answer to the question would surely be the same either way ? To breed or not is another issue. I agree with others. No problem but fix the fence. I was asking as reg breeders have more access to mentors and the like, whereas pet breeders are largely alone. If you see my next comment I suggest they ask their mentor if they have one. Ok I am tired now. You and me both

My sister is considering moving to Tassie next year. We're a close family and she mentioned that she'd like if we moved down as well. But the one thing that has me worried is the dog laws. I currently have 5 dogs including mum's JRT and I know that in Vic anything over 2 needs a permit or a license or something. I told mum that I wouldn't move down if I couldn't have all my dogs as I would never part with them. So what are the dog laws like? If we already own 5 can we get a permit allowing us to keep them? We would be looking at country areas around Launceston.

Perth Rescue Group - Jrt Needing A Home
mixeduppup replied to CrazyCresties's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Two JRTs here, both love my cat. But I've heard similar from others, thinking I have the exception not the rule? I really hope you can find a home, my grandmother was recently searching for a small dog but rescued a silky terrier. I'll let her know and she might know of someone looking. -
I had to do work placement today and wasn't feeling the best so maybe I wasn't hiding my weaknesses well enough, I dunno, but the rude people were out in force. I was walking my dog at lunch time as I take her to work with me and was waiting for my lunch outside the cafe when this lady came up walking a cute PoodleX something or other. She sat down to wait for her husband who'd gone inside and mentioned how lovely my dog was and asked me what I did with her. I said that I am training her to be a yard dog and her face went really sour and she told me that was cruel. I asked her how it was cruel. She said working dogs are abused. I told her that some people can be cruel to their working dogs but I certainly wasn't. Then she said that making a dog work, jump on sheep and run around all day was definitely cruel and got up and left. I was like...ok then. I should probably tell the girls that they can't work anymore because it's cruel, no matter how much they want to. *eyeroll* The second thing. I was in at the vet's and met a lady with a cute little shitzhuX I think, anyway I asked her if I could pat her and she said I could, so I knelt down and started patting the dog, commenting on how adorable she was. When I stood up, she was looking me up and down and I felt a little judged and then she said out of the blue "My daughter has a Schipperke, but you wouldn't know what that is" I then rattled off very nicely exactly what it was and she looked really pissed off and I walked away. People are so odd sometimes. Glad I'm home.

Yes, registered with dogsnsw etc gsdl, but i have never had this type of issue/concern before.. Do you have a mentor that you could chat to? Also I'd be fixing up the fence in case the neighbours get an entire visiting.

Is she a registered dog and you a reg breeder or just a pet?

Sometimes puppies can affect a bitch's heat cycle and I've seena very young pup bring ona false pregnancy. What breed is she and how old?
-
well there weren't too many dogs there and there was lots of grass and all he dogs got on well and all owners seemed watchful and attentive. That's horrible about the husky.

Our local butchers are so expensive and it's actually cheaper to buy the bag of frames from woolies, we also pay the 3.90 for necks. but we get pet mince from the butcher which is $2 a kg.
