Pitbulls Bite Off Teenagers Ear In Savage Attack
mixeduppup replied to k9angel's topic in In The News
A dog does have to have a predisposition toward aggression in the first place though. Yes, I agree that it's the people's fault, but the dogs are the monsters of their breed because they have been mismanaged/bred and/or raised by people to be just that. However, the dog has to naturally have a propensity toward aggressive behaviour when left to its own devices, many breeds would not do this if raised in the same or similar circumstances. I believe it's the lines of dogs of this particular group being bred now, temperament is being replaced by looks and I blame this solely on proper APBT breeders (who know the breed and what they're doing) being banned. BSL is only helping to create unstable dogs being bred underground and sold to people who have no idea how to raise a badly bred bull breed. This could all be avoided if BSL were abolished and proper breeders brought back in. -

Who says dogs can't choose? If you put a bowl of vegan food down and bowl of normal dog food down and your dog eats the normal dog food and refuses to eat the vegan food I would say that's a choice.

you can post where you like :)

I think its sad your kids don't get to chose themselves Why? Most kids eat what their parents want them to eat. Free choice comes when you leave home. Because becoming a Vegan is a personal choice and not one your parents should make for you. I believe children should be free to sample all foods and decide what is palatable to them. I'm not sure how well it would be policed in a school ground anyway with children swapping lunches, getting tuckshop, having sleepovers. I was raised very freely and was a vegan for a while, then a vegetarian and then ate meat again. My mum provided what I asked for and supported me in my search for what I liked and what I didn't. Parents should be the foundation for the child and the child can be the ever morphing building upon it. It shouldn't be about forcing a ready-made blueprint of who the child should be and what the child should eat.

How about dogs and humans that are allergic to plant protein? How about the fact that whether we "need" to or "want" we have the choice to? You choose to be vegan, many of us choose not to be. It's not a religion neither is it a law. The animals that exist, exist because we bred them for the specific purpose of eating them, they wouldn't be alive if we didn't. I grew up having a Sunday roast, turkey on Christmas and I'll be damned if I let sanctimonious, opinionated vegans change that (not talking about anyone here, just in general). Vegans have every right to choose not to eat animal products and feed their dogs whatever they like, and non-vegans have every right to eat and feed whatever they choose as well. What's right for one person isn't necessarily right for another and one should never force views onto another.

I have a vegan friend who basically abuses anyone who eats meat. I don't know what they feed their dogs but any time anyone mentions on FB what they're eating they'll get ripped to shreds. I don't think that's very fair of them. I know a few more vegans that behave like that as well. My friend has a friend who sends her pictures of calves being killed (taken by PETA) every time she mentions eating meat or something. It's weird. I don't believe any one has the right to impose their views on others or their philosophy on their animals. I'm an omnivore but my rabbits aren't.

Dog Wanted- Male Working Breed Mix Vic

It's not from a rescue but I have a friend who is helping rehome a full kelpie boy, he of course ended up with someone who got bored with him and wants to rehome him. He's very well behaved considering and isn't an escapist or has separation anxiety. I believe he's red in colour. It's a long shot and he is in NSW but you never know. -
So vegans I has me a question. I have friends who are fully organic and breed and kill their own meet and feed this to their dogs. Would that be considered cruel or unethical from the vegan perspective?

I don't think it has anything to do with being politically correct. I think it has everything to do with accurately assessing a situation/behaviour, without using sensational terms that only serve to create more hysteria. People should be mad, people should be livid. These dogs are dangerous and should be treated/acknowledged as such. People should be so angry that someone didn't take the time to properly raise and manage these dogs and in turn they viciously attacked a young man. These dogs are doing the breed no favours and that's what I'm furious about. Doing the breed no favours? Given it's up in the air what breed they are (media reporting notwithstanding), I think they are doing dog owners no favours. The breeds have been identified as pitbulls or pitbulls mixes, video has been shown of the dogs and they are identifiable as this breed (whether they have another breed in them or not, people will see them as pitbulls) -

Can the dog be located outside of VIC but transport available? -
A vegan diet would be very costly. It's even costly for people.

What Can I Use To Stop Him Biting?

We had the same issue with the Kelpie girl jumping onto the cat playfully, she was told in no uncertain terms that that was unacceptable. -
That dog is gorgeous! Love the ears! good luck in finding his family.

I don't think this one needed a dog whisperer  "We want to eat them" would probably be close

And still would have had no choice or say in the matter. That doesn't make them monsters, to me. That makes them victims of monsters. I guess we'll never see eye to eye on this particular matter. -

I agree about being furious with the owners. Being furious with the dogs and labelling them 'vile monsters' does nothing and only promotes the idea that these dogs allowed themselves to be this way when, in fact, the owner has allowed them to be this way. Who knows, perhaps the dogs were bred to be aggressive and then not managed properly, maybe they were genetically predisposed. Either way what they have done has made them monsters in the dog world. -

Comparing dogs to Humans rarely ever provides a logical conclusion. I could compare them to trees, it doesn't matter. The point I'm making is, once something starts displaying behaviour that is rare/uncommon in its lineage/species/breed whatever, it no longer represents the familiar and becomes the trash of its animal group. It becomes so changed from how it was bred/meant to be that it's no longer reflecting of its breed and is therefore not "just acting like a dog". I consider dogs of any breed that brutally attack or kill a person to be the trash/monsters of the dog world. I may not be politically correct but there's too many good dogs out there not getting a chance to represent their breeds whilst these dogs ruin the name. I hope the owner gets the book thrown at him majorly. -

But saying they're dogs being dogs is like saying a serial killer is just a person being a person. The excuse is invalid and the crime should be punished accordingly. These dogs were raised ineffectively and they turned into monsters. yes they are still dogs in the same way pringles are still vegetables. They're not good and they should be destroyed. -

The video showed two red/tan pitbull looking dogs. Idiots not controlling their dogs, especially dogs that need a heap of skilled management to become upstanding citizens. It makes my blood boil. People suffer because other people are idiots.
