And you can always train them to use the entire garden as a bed. Gradually, you also have less of a garden to take care of, win-win! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqawY9812bM In the jungle the mighty jungle the leonberger sleeps tonight...lame, but it's the song that came into my head

I smell PETA ETA: Just because you've been on this earth for a long time doesn't mean you're right, it could just mean you've been wrong for longer. Foxes are vermin and need to be controlled.
-
Foxes are not natural to this country and their presence is leading to animals that are native to this country being killed and ousted from their homes and habitat. Foxes are vermin and if nothing is done they will eventually eradicate some very unique wildlife that are endemic only to Australia. Rationale tells us that the best way to stop many species becoming extinct and many farmers losing their livelihood is to kill the perpetrator. Why should this generation have to put up with the shit that another generation introduced?

I know there are a few WA members who could put you onto a good behaviourist in that area. The'll be around soon. Does she behave the same way if your partner tries to move her?
-
You and your position in this household have been usurped. I suggest getting a professional behaviourist asap and learning how to effectively communicate with and control your girl. Good luck. Someone will be along with links to behaviourists. Where in WA are you?

Brilliant! And what a non-violent way to go. Hats off to the whole thing!

Greyhound Racings Dirty Little Secret Exposed
mixeduppup replied to Greyt's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sounds just like Ex racers or Ex trotters. Any animal that is used solely as a commodity is culled off if it isn't producing. The sorry fact is they aren't seen as dogs/horses anymore but just a quick buck or a tool for profit. -
I've given Up buying my dogs nice, expensive, soft beds because they end up like that. They get old woolen blankets and tranpoline beds now, until they learn to appreciate what I give them tsktsk

This is a great article. http://www.roarkingdom.com.au/vaccination -
You'll find that as she gets older you may need to lock her up at night, because as she meets maturity her guarding instincts will really kick in and your neighbours won't be happy. I'd love to have Ammo out all night but he'd never shut up
-
Perhaps he's testing you for some reason, or maybe he wants new scenery?

Titre Testing Instead Of Annual Vaccinations.

I love the holistic approach and all the dogs I've met whose owners are holistic seem very healthy. I'm also considering going completely raw at some point. -
Did he ever stop at a particular place, double back at any point? Bitches in season was my thought as well.

Titre Testing Instead Of Annual Vaccinations.

I try to keep my dogs on a fairly healthy lifestyle without too many chemicals and after last year when I got one of my kelpies vaccinated just before he went up to QLD and he almost died from a reaction I've been super nervous about vaccinations. -
I'm thinking of getting my dog's titre tested annually instead of giving them a booster that they might not even need. My holistic vet friend recommended this and I'm really considering it. Just a few questions though. Does any one do this? Do boarding kennels, competitions and training grounds accept titre test results as proof of protection for your dog? ETA. She just suggested I get the kennel cough intranasal and titre test for Distemper and parvo.

Yep ammo loves the praise, he seems to revel in it and stops as well. ETA. We lock ammo is the garage at night as our neighbours would never sleep. He only ever barks in the garage if we have a visitor. Is Maya inside or out at night?

Latest Research On Prong & Check Collars
mixeduppup replied to luvsdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
You can still use positive rewards - just different rewards. For my dogs getting to the sheep is a far greater reward than any treat or toy. If they don't walk beside me we don't go any closer to the sheep until they are back in heel position. They learn to walk beside me off lead and know the correct position. If I can control them in a trial when sheep are being let out in front of them and bolting to the other end of the yard, it's not hard to keep them under control when walking around the paddocks and calling them off rabbits etc. (I don't ever walk around roads.) True the stock are a positive reward. I doubt my girls would care about a treat or a toy in the presence of stock any way. They love working and find out quickly that being obedient gets them the sheep lol -

but being allowed to work can be a reward, therefore can be a positive reward. True. I meant in the sense of treats or toys. Good point though.
