Glad you did something about it Alyosha, it could have gotten a lot worse. I hope this doesn't turn into another thread trying to decipher what Tralee really means, there's another 2 of those in action already

I'm going to do more research. I'm worried Ammo will get cancer now. :/

So would my boy's nose be referred to as 'fading nose'?
-
Andrea, I'm so sorry this happened. I just read this for the first time and it's so upsetting. My sympathies.

My boy has less and less pigment in his nose every year. Is this lack of pigment or some kind of fading gene? 5-6mths 1.5yrs 3yrs

Paspalum? That stuff is annoying

Yep. I see an alarming number being bred and raised around here too. I'm not so concerned that some of the pups go to working situations, its the companion homes that make me cringe. And then how many are desexed. Hence the reason for this thread. The preservation and further development of the Maremma's conformation and temperament is a serious concern. I recently asked someone who own farmbred maremmas why they don't buy from a reg breeder and they are under the impression that show maremmas are not as tough as the farmbred ones and also people who are reg breeders of maremmas are few and far between and picky about who they sell to, so they may need 3 or 4 good maremmas yet be denied any. So there's a few reasons.

You can get mini horse hoods, i'm sure that would fit a bully :)

I know I have to bath Ammo when people comment on his lovely 'cream fur'
-
not long at all then. 144 registered puppies, I know of at least 15 born unreg in the last year or so. I imagine there would be a lot

A lot of people mistake TA for HA and DA when in reality as soon as the dog leaves its territory it's nice as pie.

How long has the Maremma actually been in Aus?

In the next few years I'm seriously considering training up a working dog to a high standard and swapping it for a ute, they're worth about the same as a good second hand ute when fully trained :D -
Check chains are very different from chain collars and should never be left on a dog unless you are actually present and training the dog.

Maybe just tried to bring an entire tree branch into the house and looked disappointed when I told her to leave it outside. It would have ended up on the lounge.

No probs there MUP - my back door is permanently open, and I don't have a cat, and I have wooden floors that are pretty much impervious to dog poop... Now - Harper may or may not come with 30+ kilos of crazy puppy exuberance, a drive for food to equal no other, and will eat any dog poo in sight before launching at your face for kisses - oh, and she completely ignores the words "no", "stop that", "leave it", or "give"... she may or may not sit or drop on command, depends on whether she feels like it or not... lol! I think I really need to work on some more obedience training with Harper... errr! T. Baxter will not sit, drop or stay but he can beg, dance and speak. He also does high tens but has yet to master the high five -
A rotting brushtail possum, a rotting hare, the feet of my pet pigeon, half of my favourite childhood toy bunny, a tape measure, a segment of hose, the other dog's bed, the pet guinea pig I had buried that morning and a whole bag of coffee beans. That's everything I can remember.
-
I see a heap of working dog walking around here with a segment of chain cut and made into a collar. seems a pretty good and secure solution as long as it's fitted correctly and not allowed to rub. Most working dogs are restrained when not working so it's not a biggy. I've seen some pretty badly fitted ones though resulting in injury.

I'd consider swapping Baxter for Harper. Think it over :D Warning: Baxter may or may not come with really annoying habits like, zooming around the house and breaking valuables, eating cat poo then licking the cat's butt, barking at 2am because he wants to come inside even though he woke you at 1 to go out, 12 to come in and 11 to go out, may shit under the lounge if it's raining, eats imaginary treats and gets angry if other dogs 'steal' them, likes to rub himself all over you and has stinky cat crap breath. -

I remember once I had a really cool pet guinea pig as a kid, you could take her for walks and tether her to trees to graze. A kid at school offered me his full lunch box as a trade. I said no because I didn't like ham sandwiches -
Could I share this photo on my facebook? It's hilarious!

I got offered an unbroken shetland pony for my dog once. I've also been offered 2 stationbred kelpie pups for a fully wkc reg and trained working kelpie I had for sale. -
There's a notorious path in my old town where you have to walk next to a fence with a big dog behind it. I would always place myself between the fence and the dogs. I feel so sorry for the owners and the dog. Very very sad.

I've just posted asking them if they contacted the breeder about returning him.
