  1. I saw a gorgeous scruffy whippetX at the pound a few weeks ago. Dogmad knows who took it! it was a beautiful dog!
  2. Mastiffs aren't restricted in vic. But it's always good to get one with papers in case the bsl nazis go crazy.
  3. That's what we say about you boxer people :p
  4. From what I've seen boxers are very high energy and with such a busy household you may not have the time to devote to such a high energy breed. I love the temperament of bull mastiffs and they are wonderful family dogs from what I've seen.
  5. That's one relaxing dog. I saw a purebred woofhound for sale today. XD
  6. You don't have to like all breeds of dog though. I'd lie if I said that I loved all breeds and didn't have a bias toward some over others. From what I've seen of DM's posts here she hardly said anything degrading about larger breeds just pointed to a thread that reinforced the point that was being made about the importance of not taking the dog to the park until further advice had been sort. I for one love bull and large breeds but I understand that if I had had numerous not-so-good run-ins with bad examples of the breed/s I would probably not be so keen on them (no matter how much I tried to internally justify that it was the individual dog and not the breed in general). I understand where DM is coming from and it's human nature. What I don't understand is the fact that some people stalk her through threads waiting for her to mention anything other than a SWF or iggy so that they can come in and flame her for it. Live and let live. Not everyone is going to like what you like. It's a community which is made up of people from all walks of life and ALL have something to offer. If you don't like what someone says simply put them on ignore instead of attacking them for how they feel or what they believe. That's all.
  7. Oh, yeah!! :) triple yeah! so you two obviously don't ignore me :D How could anyone ignore you? Your dog is super cute. There is a couple that prefer not to see me blathering on about 'stuff' Well I get my staffy fix through you and Ziggy, so don't stop! :D

  9. One of the other DOLers has a tibbie boy that doesn't like other dogs & can respond aggressively. But he likes those that are brachy types... or close. Bit like himself. I think it's to do with the way they breathe and the fact that their faces are scrunched and look a bit aggresive and she just assumes they're being aggressive. Or maybe she's just confused by them.
  10. I have a kelpie that doesn't know what to make of brachy breeds and often responds aggressively which is highly unusual for her.
  11. There could be a variety of reasons for this sudden behaviour change but no matter how much experience people on the internet have they do not have hands-on experience with your dog so have no way of knowing what triggered his behaviour. The best bet is to contact a good behaviourist and yes, Steve is brilliant.
  12. Maybe she could come for visits over the next months so your gang gets used to her and it will be an easier transition once the time comes.
  13. Jasmin Klocker and Peter Fortunaso at Williams river vet clinic in Clarence Town are FANTASTIC!
  14. I called the police and they went around to check. I asked them to update me if it wasn't good news so that I could assist with the dogs. He said he would definitely. No phone calls and her dogs aren't in the pound so I'm guessing she's fine and just changed her mind.
  15. I love living out west. We currently have 6 dogs here and as long as they are not a nuisance there's no limit. Although 6 IS our limit
  16. I run a pound page on facebook and regularly monitor who joins. We also have a say over which rescue takes a dog from the pound and if they have a sketchy past/present they don't get the dog. So far (touch wood) every dog (excluding a few for behavioural and health issues) has been rehomed privately or to quality rescue organisations via here, the website and on facebook and they are all now in happy and safe environments. If you're smart about regulating the members of the page and develop a good relationship with the pound I don't see a problem with using facebook as a medium.
  17. Excitement can quickly escalate from play to aggression. I would intervene before they got to that stage and teach them to be settle don command and reward them for the quiet behaviour. Desexing is always a good idea (though not essential) as it can cut down a lot of testosterone fueled behaviour. Don't let them off together to play with that level of excitement, not only could it become aggressive but it can also lead to the staffy accidentally hurting the much smaller dog. Uncontrollable excitement like they are demonstrating should never be rewarded as it's inappropriate behaviour. Removing one or both from the room once they display the behaviour and then bringing them back in until they are calmer and then rewarding would be a good thing to start doing. I also second that they should not be left unsupervised, at least for a couple of months and then play it by ear.
  18. 3 dogs isn't much more work than 2 IF you get a dog that complements your current pack. Maybe a trial?
  19. I've tried calling every day this week and she hasn't picked up so I don't know. I'll try again tomorrow but after that I guess the ball's in her court. Given the situation maybe something has happened to her. Perhap you should notify the police. Just a thought. Not wanting to be alarmist. Good thinking. I'll do that this afternoon. Although someone said they saw her in town the other day (Tuesday) so perhaps she's just changed her mind.
