Does it worry you at all that you're conducting a systematic public character assassination of a person you've never met and whose side of the story you've never heard? I guess not. Just try to get your head around this would you? No. Try not. Do or do not. The dog did not have a gun. Your statement that the Police Officer believed the dog was approaching with lethal force is laudible. There is data based evidence to verify the contrary - the neighbours knew the dog and vouchsafed that it was harmless. So if a gorilla comes running at me with a sword and I kill them with a bat in self defense then I'm a sadist?

Help In The Riverina
mixeduppup replied to ozsomerset's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I got that too and send her a message back giving her the name of a vet hospital that would do spays whilst pregnant and told her that a lot of vets/most vets would do the same thing. She replied by saying thank you and she'd let him know. -
Awww, thanks so much Danny's Darling One of our carer's who lives 15 minutes from Hornsby would love it. She is fostering little Sparky. Will PM you now. Well that crate war was very anti-climactic.

1 2 3 4 I declare a crate war! :D
-
If someone could get it to Coota me or my carers could really use it for poundies :)

oh I need I need! My covered crate is beginning to wear and I often temp care and/or foster care and right now it's getting diffcult. But I need mostly large dog sizes

Police are not all trained dog experts and if a very large dog rushed at them growling and barking they would defend themselves. I would expect nothing less. It's a terrible situation all round, I feel for everyone involved.

Yes she was. Turns out she was fully vetted and desexed as was Gemma. No one is interested in her though even though she has the best personality. We're thinking of doing a ring around and seeing if any other rescue closer to the city has room for her as she's the perfect dog but people just see kelpieX and keep walking around here. We're upping her profile for now though and doing some advertisement. Hopefully someone will come around

So my friend has taken Heidi for a while and I've taken on Bronte as she needed the socialisation more. Bronte is the most amazing horse puppy ever. DaneXmastiff is our best bet. She has spent her first 8mths locked in a backyard with a dominant rotti so is a bit nervy around other dogs and generally unsure about life but she has the SWEETEST nature! Well it started when a lab licked me last week and then I've been babysitting a lab this week but I came out in welts when my the daneX I'm babysitting licked me as well. Kelpie spit seems ok.

It's been happening for a bit over a week, hives and it seems to be every dog and I've been ignoring it but it seems to be getting worse and it's just where the dog licks now nowhere else. It was originally on my back and chest but now it's just anywhere where saliva touches.
-
I have developed an allergy to dog saliva. I've been trying to pinpoint the origin of my sudden manifestation of hives last week. Today I worked it out when I was licked by a rather slobbery dog and the reaction on my arms was instantaneous and rather impressive. I put some neocort on after washing them but is there anything I can do apart from claratyne and topical creams? Dogs are my life

Perhaps you don't realise how fast cops are taught to draw and fire? Standard drill is draw and fire three shots in two seconds... Things can go pear shaped very, very quickly for police. They are trained accordingly. Because Australian general duties police are always armed. Unless you think they should leave the firearms in the car until they're needed? I understand that but they were obviously not coming to talk about a charity function by the sounds of it.
-
From what I've read about laws shouldn't your front door/path be safe for people to access? Also I wonder if the driveway was gated or if the dog was just not a wanderer. Also I question why a few police were coming to this house with firearms at the ready...

Ok I just had the most frustrating conversation ever. Backstory: I found a dog on Saturday where I worked. He chased my car for close to a k down the highway (nowhere to pull over or I would have)and then waited at my work for 6 hours and no one knew him nor came to collect him. We were closed on Sunday and I didn't want to leave him there so I took him home, alerted pounds in 4 towns, police in 4 towns and every vet in 4 towns. I even went into work on a Sunday to scan him (found him at my other work not the vet) and he had no chip. I put up notices in the town I found him as well as on all buy swap and sells on Fb. Finally this afternoon I get a call and she describes him and his collar so I know it's her dog. I asked where he lived in relation to where he was found and it wasn't far. Now here is the crazy part. She said to me "If you had have just left him he would have come home eventually, he sometimes goes missing for a day or two." This dog was on the highway! I told her that as someone who works for a vet and at the pound I couldn't justify leaving a loose dog unattended next to a highway and that's why I brought him home. Then she started complaining about the fact that by law (as I had listed him as 'in the pound') he had to be chipped before she could get him back and how expensive it was. I explained that she was lucky I had kept him and not put him in the pound as she would be paying at a lot more than the cost of a microchip with impound fees. It just annoyed me ugh.

Local Dog Owners Struggling With Off Leash Addiction
mixeduppup replied to *kirty*'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Great way to get the point across! -
I noticed this also and if true, then I do not believe there was any justification for shooting the dog. What, was it rushing at them backwards? Bullet trajectory is a tricky thing. If the officer was taller than the dog and aimed down that could explain back of the neck.

My new foster dog Heidi a natural half tailed kelpieX Meeting Dexter with Torque. Playing fetch with Maybe Visiting friends at the nursing home (they were trying to get her to pose but she just wouldn't do it )

About my foster dog Heidi. "She's a kelpie, kelpies are working dogs, why is she visiting people in the nursing home?" me: "Heidi is a failed working dog but loves people, so the nursing home asked her to visit" Lady: "If she's not a good worker she should have been shot, labradors are therapy dogs, not kelpies."
