Staffy Needs A Home - Sydney
mixeduppup replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
That's a nice looking dog! Surely someone could help him out -
I have read all about you and roo and am in awe of such a wonderful owner. You really went over and beyond.

The horse puppy has a few interested parties right now. Hopefully one is a good match :D

Hi, she's 8kgs give or take breakfast. She much prefers smaller dogs, she can be a bit growly at bigger dogs as she's scared of them but is already improving in this area. I'm organising Nelly's adoption so she can call me directly. I'll pm you my details :)

How about CA in kelpies? Heaps of working breeders ignore it and breed affected dogs or dogs that carry the gene.
-
What happened? Can someone pm me?

Take her to the vets and get a full blood count for starters.

May be partly due to fact that deaf pups are not usually culled these days No, I work at a vet and see people bringing in dogs they use for breeding and quite a few of those need to be tested for BAER in my opinion but people are just ignoring the fact and breeding anyway. How is that inconsistent with what dragonwoman wrote? I understood her post as saying that people are bringing in deaf puppies as pets. I'm very one dimensional in my understanding today. I guess she's right.

I Don't Understand! Stopping Dogs From Barking
mixeduppup replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
So your dogs bark but youre upset that someone else's dogs bark? My dogs bark, they're dogs, they don't bark constantly because I tell them to be quiet. I am not upset that they bark and have said so, they don't annoy me. What I don't understand is the fact that their owners won't tell them to be quiet, even if it doesn't work. They don't even attempt it. Just seems strange to me that your dog will bark for prolonged periods of time (or all of your dogs) and you don't once attempt to make it be quiet. -
What's their reason 'it isn't working out?' And why do they get another dog? They give random (very vague) reasons and then they go out and buy another dog. I've tried speaking to them but they do what they do and then expect for me to help rehome their dogs and it's starting to annoy me. Urgh, that's horrible. I understand, I haven't had anything that bad but have also had situations where people expect me to be understanding about their crappy actions - 'he's so naughty I've got to take him to the pound. I'd walk him but he pulls....' *facepalm* Totally changes how you see them, doesn't it? Where are they the new dogs from and where are the old ones going? They normally sell them on facebook to random people and then within a few weeks they have another puppy turn up and they'll call me and ask for advice or message/text me photos. The last one of my friends I was really upset as she got rid of two gorgeous dogs on facebook and then got this new puppy and was asking me about how to train it and I just said "I believe I've given you the same advice twice before and you didn't listen and then got rid of them anyway. My advice is don't get anymore dogs when you eventually sell this one, because we both know you will". She didn't talk to me for a few days then messaged me like nothing has happened and here she is selling this one only 5 months down the track. It just gets annoying. And of course I've said i could help her rehome it otherwise this very young, good looking purebred dog is going up for sale on facebook. Such a hard place to be in. Should I just leave it and let her learn from her mistakes? I have 2 other friends who are doing the same thing but I think they've realised I'm over it and are maybe slightly embarrassed.

I Don't Understand! Stopping Dogs From Barking
mixeduppup replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dogs have the. Visitor bark, "OMG you're home" bark, Another dog bark, "something isn't right" bark, another animal bark, "I'm barking with the other dogs in the street" bark, Postie bark, "Play with me" bark and "I have no idea why I'm barking I just like the sound of my own bark" bark. I've pretty much nailed what each one is. -
The maremma will kill birds. He's killed a few.

I Don't Understand! Stopping Dogs From Barking
mixeduppup replied to mixeduppup's topic in General Dog Discussion
Found out the reason today is that there is a stray dog visiting our street and then running away as soon as it sees people. I understand the dogs having a bark but what i don't understand is people not telling them to be quiet. Our dogs tried to have a bark at it and I let them for a few seconds then told them it was ok and they haven't barked at it since and it's walked past our house a few times since. I'm with you OSS I don't mind other people's but mine aren't allowed it annoys me. I just don't understand how they could put up with it. -

We had someone in my old town that would put his dog out at the top of our street and drive about a k to the end of the street and the dog would chase the car. He said it was for exercise. I offered to walk his dog but he refused. the ranger wasn't coming to the town at this stage and we had no resident policeman so he never got caught.

I live in a street that is pretty dog heavy. We have 6. Our neighbours on one side have 3, the other neighbours have 5 and the people across the road have 6. As expected dogs bark. I have noticed something though. Apart from our neighbours with 3 dogs, we are the only people who tell our dogs to shut up and make sure they do. The other dogs bark non-stop when they're in the mood and no one ever says anything. I mean how can you listen to your dogs barking for up to 2 hours (with small breaks) and not say something. I know for a fact that they are home right now and their dogs are barking. Our house is pretty sound proof so I don't find it annoying but I don't understand the logic behind hearing your dogs bark constantly and not telling them to be quiet. Our dogs go to join in and we're on it straight away as I don't want them to annoy anyone. I guess I just don't understand the logic UGH!

Rescue Notes Are They Copyrighted
mixeduppup replied to animal ark 22's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I'm happy for people to use the notes I put in urgent rescue for pound dogs. I would rather people use exactly what i say then write their own stuff about a dog they don't know and haven't temp tested. -
Please do pass the word around. She chases the ball with Maybe and Huxley and I think she'd be great for agility or any kind of sports. She has a heap of energy and she could be taught to focus her natural drive. Nelly's time was coming to a close and she was too awesome to not rescue :D

Judging by her teeth the vet thinks 2 -3 years.

Do You Have A Blacklist?
mixeduppup replied to animal ark 22's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Hahaha I have another kind of blacklist -
Nelly loves chasing the tennis ball! Butterbone? I was thinking about contacting the flyball people to see if anyone was looking for a height dog actually.

I know a few people who always seem to be getting new dogs and then selling or giving them away 6 months later. Today I've seen two different friends selling their dogs both on facebook and other sites and calling me to see if I know of anyone who wants their dog and it's getting me down. I don't understand how you can get a new dog every 5 or 6 months after selling your 5 or 6 month old puppy that "just isn't working out". Just wondering how you guys deal with this part of the job?
