If you read what i wrote I said that I would remove banning. I believe that if a dog (any breed) is proven dangerous it should be removed from public and if taken out muzzled and identified as a dangerous dog. Yes the owner can take up education classes and reeducate the dog as well. Socialising can be done with a muzzle and then perhaps a reassessment of the dog's behaviour in a year by a government behaviourist,.

I love Boxers and Pointers and they're very attractive dogs. *puts them on list* Someone here asked if anyone could give us some information on Akitas (I think they watched Hachiko recently 8eyeroll*)? I've heard that their prey drive is very high and if a dog starts a fight with it, it can be hard to control? Don't know about them at all. I've met 3 and they were nice.

One of my family members here used to own an old style GSD but they bought a high prey drive one and it was chaos. Not a highly gifted dog person owning a high prey drive dog and 2 cats... Any way I mention a GSD and everyone is like "NO IT'LL EAT THE CAT" everyone is besotted with the cat in this house, his welfare is paramount in choosing a dog breed.

We had a problem with a Cane Corso X we fostered about 2 years ago and after that no fostering large breeds, it's written in stone somewhere. I'll take them for a drive the see a few adult rottis at a breeders place, I'll make a few phone calls. Still keep throwing breeds around though, just in case they decide they don't like them even more.

They live with me. It's a big property and I have my own area of the house. They said they wouldn't stop me from getting one but are a bit worried about its potential aggressiveness. I tried to explain that with the breeding today, they're a very stable and good temperament dog and with continued training and socialisation they grow up to be fine members of society. They're still not happy about it though. Although they were reading up about the Maremma before I got him and were even worse...and now they adore him.

So I was very excited about the end of this year as I was going to buy a rottie pup. I have been working on sorting out things here and will be ready by late November. Sadly though even though they were excited at first the other family members are not apprehensive about this breed. (I'm thinking they've been listening to negative press) But anyway I don't want to ruin or strain relationships over a dog breed, no matter how disappointed I am. So they asked if i could look for alternatives (they mentioned standard poodles...I love them but I'm not a poodle kinda person) So basically I'm after suggestions on alternative breeds to the rot. I'm highly active and experienced with dogs. I own 3 dogs currently and live on a fair bit of land. I walk my dogs for 2hrs every day and do obedience, agility and sheep dog trialing. I also hike and am getting a springer attachment for my bike. I'm home a lot as I study from home and work one day a week. I would like something that is very large, good with cats, can keep up with my activities but not be bouncing off the walls if i'm sick and it can't be walked that day, something that i can use for agility later on. Grooming is fine as I have a Maremma so not worried about that. I enjoy the protective instinct in the Maremma and would want something a bit like that. And the family is calling out saying no huskies or malamutes lol. Any ideas?

I've read through and have also heard the bs about pits not giving warning signs. As far as I can tell some dogs are much more subtle with their signs than others. I wonder why this "trainer" was watching the Pit like a hawk, why watch one like a hawk? Was she waiting for it to attack, show aggression or behave in an unsocial way? i don't understand why anyone would constantly watch any breed like a hawk unless wary in the first place. Wariness immediately set off subconscious body language that a dog can pick up on and to the dog, especially one as sensitive as a pit in picking up negative body language this can be taken as threatening behaviour on the trainer's part. Yes the dog was obviously dangerous and should not have been in public and somewhere someone went wrong in its training and socialisation, but could that attack have been avoided if the trainer was not so tense and watchful, did they inadvertently create a situation where the dog felt threatened? As far as I'm concerned dogs never give an attack without warning unless they are mentally ill or damaged. Be it the smallest sign it is there and we have to quickly recognize it without accidentally creating it. BSL needs to be reviewed. Unreg pits need to be desexed and owners enrolled in Pit training and handling courses (like using a break stick etc), pitbulls or any other breed proven to be dangerous to humans or other animals are to be kept in a government approved enclosure and muzzles and a dangerous dog collar are to be warn outside of premises. Dogs that have brutally attacked or killed a human or other domestic animal such as cats or dogs should be PTS. BSL should no longer ban certain breeds but rather seriously monitor their sale and ownership. Example: A reg APBT breeder has a litter of 6 pups, out of this litter 2 are show quality the rest are pet quality. The pet quality ones are to be sold on a desex contract, the local council is then notified of the sale and keep tabs on the buyer of the pup to make sure the desexing is complied with. The two main reg pups are only sold to other reg pitbull breeders or kept on at the stud. Thoughts?

I know it's an odd question but I recently wormed myself for the first time since a child, as I was bringing in a few foster dogs who more than likely had parasites. I just wondered if this was regular procedure for all you doggy people out there?

I've read all through. Naming and shaming would be considered slander if she chooses to pursue the harassment angle. If you do not have a receipt or bank transfer to prove you purchased this puppy, then blood work can be done to establish that it indeed is progeny of her dogs. I would be pursuing legal action and notifying whatever body she is registered with. I would also be getting a second opinion and have both vets write up a report about the dog's health issues and his inability to be shown or used in stud. You paid (I imagine quite a large sum) for a dog on the guarantee that it would be fit to perform stud and show duties. the dog is unfit for show and stud, so therefore a full refund or exchange for a new pup is advised if she doesn't want the law making a problem for her. If you do return the dog I would stay far far away form any of her lines. In the WKC the pups are guaranteed to develop working instinct but 12months old, if they do not develop that instinct they are to be exchanged or refunded after proof is shown. Any breeder worth their salt would do this for their pups. I know some Rottie breeders do it for a couple of health issues and have a written guarantee. You have to put your emotions aside for one minute and look at the situation logically. You were sold faulty goods, goods that were guaranteed to be in perfect working order. If this was a car, a kettle or a computer you would be calling the store or dealer and getting a refund or replacement. This dog was not bought just as a pet but rather an investment in your show and breeding future, it is a dud. The dog is suffering with aggressive generalized demodex, which is painful and by the vet's point of view also recurrent and chronic. The dog can no longer serve its purpose as a show or breeding animal. You can either keep said dog and lose out on whatever you've already paid whilst incurring more costly and ongoing veterinary costs, or pursue legal council and return said dog and start again with a better breeder. If it were me, I would seek legal council and return dog and get a refund. Your husband is right to be frustrated.

My Maremma is missing his big dog play friends and need some fellows his own size to hang out with. if you have well socialised and flea free large dogs that you would be willing to organise a play date with Me and My boy? he's well behaved and obedient, he just needs someone to play with. Pref not a dominant female or entire male, as for some reason they pick on him . Wagga area is best, but willing to travel as far as Young.

I'm going into a local contest this year and this is a photo I want to put in the "animals and land" section. It's a photo of a kelpie I sold earlier this year, I was living on a station at the time and he was a pretty handy dog but I had to come home and sell him on as a small property would not have suited him. I still miss him. Is this a winner do you think?

His is Ammo. :) He's about 66cm at the shoulder/wither (sorry I'm a horse girl from way back). He's 45KGs as of Friday last week. Very tall and lean. I have a better shot of his head as he's not timid at all lol. The camera flashed and he closed his eyes, but anyway...I could never be a photographer for dogs, they'd drive me batty!
