  1. That dog owner is a moron and That dog needed more than a check chain but it would have been a good start. Also that dog would have been pulling pretty hard to break that collar which was probably fraying for quite some time I'd imagine.
  2. I've used Williams River Vet Clinic in Clarence Town, they're a smaller practice but seem reliable (few years ago though) Also East Maitland Vet Clinic is meant to be good (word of mouth have never been) The one across the road from Greenhills.
  3. Yeah normally no consult needed to buy a bucket of scourban, I know some rural feed stores do sell it.
  4. What an ...hole! That poor little dog and lady! Obviously the dog had aggression issues or he wouldn't have attacked if the collar snapped. If my dogs collar snapped all they'd do is walk around and start smelling things or go up and play bow. This dog should have had more gear on it to prevent it from breaking off and possibly a muzzle. Probably the worst thing I've ever seen in regards to dog aggression is a young bull arab type dog on the back of a ute with NOTHING to secure him, the guy was driving and the dog saw another dog being walked and started growling and barking rather ferociously then leaped from the back of the ute into the path of an oncoming car. I'm pretty sure that would have been some expensive court dates for that owner. The lesson which is not being heeded is SECURE YOUR AGGRESSIVE DOGS EFFECTIVELY!
  5. WAR is Wagga Animal Rescue lol :) Haha, oops automatically think everyone knows what I'm talking about hehe
  6. So you're saying that outside owners are inside 22 hours a day? What if I said that I was outside from 6am until 8am back inside for breakfast and study for 2 hours back out side for a 2 hours walk, then back home for some training until lunch. Then back outside a couple of hours later (dogs have eaten and are sleeping) grab a leash and off we walk again for another 2 hours then homes, fun and food. My dogs are my life, apart from working on fridays they're all I have and all i do. Yes they're not allowed inside (apart from my JRT) but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed outside.
  7. That extremist but this may be aimed at a certain culture who seem to crate their dogs every day of the week and every night of the week. There's quite a few of them out there. But it's PETA so you know ALL crates are bad and should be melted into boats to save the whales...
  8. My old dog Dawny (first childhood dog) got dementia. She used to walk into corners and couldn't work out how to get out and would give up and lay down facing the wall, after every meal she'd bark at the bowl. She would fall asleep and suddenly wake up looking very confused and start howling at nothing. She lived until she was 16.
  9. Oh how unlike them! hehe. She's gorgeous I love your dark Mal! Gorgeous dogs!
  10. Oh wonderful! I love mals so pictures are necessary!
  11. I was told they are good to dogs? I'd like to know so I don't advise anyone else of the wrong thing, as I was told bya trusted person that they are good???
  12. Yes it's a last resort, I've never done it myself but it's best to try them if you're very stuck instead of the other option
  13. This girl could be perfect! http://www.petrescue.com.au/view/134811
  14. As I posted I also worked in a shelter in America (in an area not known for extremes in climate) and they were all quite shocked that I had outside dogs. One lady actually said that in her area if there's dogs outside all the time they'd get reported. Again generalisations because of neglectful owners getting in the way of good outside dog owners.
  15. I understand that many breeds are better inside and if you're happy to have a dog inside then that's up to you. I'm more worried about the negative connotations that follow people with outside dogs, who do spend a HEAP of time with them. I'm currently sitting on the back veranda with my laptop giving them dog cookies. I think with a lot of people the idea of outside dogs conjures up images of a dog sitting ina backyard lonely and neglected, but proper homes where the dogs are outside are not like that at all. We're a busy family and in and out all the time. Also how about crating all day whilst you're at work. What is everyone's opinion on that? I couldn't do it.
  16. I suppose it's different for you but I get great joy out of my outside dogs, my dogs don't suffer from being outside, they prefer it. It doesn't mean I'm neglecting the, I just do things differently.
  17. It seems to me that I see a lot more people on the American forums suggesting that dogs not be kept outside at all. That they are family and need to be with the family, they get almost militant about it in some cases (don't mention you have outside dogs or they get rather perturbed). Whereas the Aussie forums are much more laid back, and has an eclectic mix, some have inside dogs, others have inside/outside and others have outside. (I know if I tried to bring my maremma in he'd pee on everything, shed on everything then want out lol) Also crating is a HUGE fad in America but over here not so much (although increasing in popularity) I couldn't crate my dogs for 8 hours a day if I worked fulltime. So my question is, what do you think it is about The American culture that has dogs pretty much housebound? As far as I'm concerned as long as the dog is loved and cared for, given daily attention, food, warm bed, shelter, exercise and you time I don't see a problem with being outside dogs. I'm also not against inside dogs as my JRT is mostly inside and he loves it and we love him being in here. But I hate the view that because you keep your dog outside it's immediately being neglected. I worked at a shelter in America for sometime and when they found out I had outside dogs they didn't understand. Unless dogs work cattle they are inside. I know that in some rural areas wild animals are a factor but not in all areas, and this seems to be nationwide.
  18. Guard dog is a loose term, most guard dogs I know around here are just unsocialised large breeds kept in backyards. Proper guard dogs take years of training and can be called off.
  19. I always take a quarter off the prescribed dose as it can be too effective. I'd stop for 12 hours ad previously advised and see if it's firm yet.
  20. WAR had some great pups available. All will be medium size
  21. Poor kid. Idiot owners. Wishing him the best recovery mentally and physically
  22. I knew a lady that bred Goldens and had a bitch that cycled every 3-4 months.
