I sent them links to dogs in PR that were Jap Spitz or similar, dogs in pounds, gave them statistics and told them why. I didn't abuse them. Just simply said that there's a good chance most of their dog's progeny would end up in the pound.

I was slightly drunk which gave me the courage to do it. It wasn't rude, just to the point. My sister got the email from the this morning. "Thanks, we're rethinking it"

The ad is gone now, teehee. I'm thinking they probably read your email! Yeah instead of trying to find their dog a home they are probably going to take it to the pound instead. Good job. It was a Jap Spitz (unpapered) Looking for love. I told them in no uncertain terms to get their dog desexed.

I couldn't help myself.

I kinda sent those people a very abrupt/rude email. that urks me in the extreme and I'm slightly drunk...

On the Bali subject, my friend was recently working with Bali Dogs and wanted to bring one home, policy has changed due to rabies and even vaccinated dogs are now not allowed to leave the island. As a student I can understand how much you want a pet, but if I didn't live at my mum's I would never be able to afford to keep a dog. Your financial situation may be different but it costs so much to do it properly and there is also working out time with work and study, it just would not be feasible for me personally.

My friend has a blue merle BC or Coolie (sorry not sure, could be a cross) that she's trying to rehome. She's moved to a farm and there is a lot of stock around, her work schedule has changed so now she works every day, all day and the dog is currently housed in working dog kennels but without the outlet, apart from a run every afternoon so of course my friend knows this is not an ideal lifestyle for a very high energy dog and is looking to give her what she needs. She's 11 months old, bred for agility (that's what all her parents, grandparents etc do), very attractive blue merle with blue eyes and border collie markings, medium length coat. She is partially deaf and needs an outlet. She's fully vaccinated, flea treated, desexed and a lovely dog, but needs training. If a rescue would be willing to take her on she'd be worth your while and once you put her on PR would be gone in a heartbeat, can arrange a picture but I haven't been given one yet, but I see her a lot and trust me when I say she's stunning :) Please pm if you're interested.

Not defending the lady but doesn't sound like she was being racist more going through the motions of seeing people like yourself (of all nationalities) day in and day out that are not suitable homes (not saying that you aren't, just by RSPCA standards) and I guess she has to do her job, quickly and without drama. Maybe you could ask to volunteer and build up a rapport over time and then perhaps become the exception to the rule?

Conrats ollie! I saw the photos of Ollie and Nova on K9 Pro FB. They're both ridiculously good looking. :D

Alrighty. This could be a whole uni course haha

yeah makes sense. I just don't understand why purebred rescues exist if dogs can't be proven to be purebred or is ti more a fitting to type thing? Or do Purebred rescues only rescue papered dogs?
-
Ok, I'm understanding more now. It's rather complicated.
-
So in that case if some unscrupulous idiot decided to breed two papered pedigree dogs their pups would be purebred, but not pedigree purebred? Have I got that right? Whereas rescues (mainly pound dogs) would be called crosses or unknown because they have no definite lineage that can be traced?
-
Oh ok. I see. Is that still done these days (OT slightly, sorry) Can I derail my own thread for but a moment? :)
-
Oh, so you're saying that a dog can be pedigree but be a crossbreed? But the ANKC normally won't paper a dog that isn't pedigree purebred will it?
-
IMO they would be purebred and you'd be a BYBer. Don't worry, I'd never be a BYBer. I never want to breed dogs at all and hate BYBs with a vengeance.
-
i'll do it now
-
OK so how about if I said (purely hypothetical lol) that I had two papered dogs of the same breed but was too lazy/greedy to bother becoming a reg stud so just bred them together and sold the pups. I know the pups are that breed because I bred their parents, are the pups purebred?
-
This subject was recently brought up in another thread and I thought I would ask. What do you classify as a purebred? Does a dog need papered parents to be classed as a purebred? Does it simply need parents of proven lineage without its own papers? Can it be a dog that looks and acts like the breed it is said to be but has nothing on paperwork to prove it is that breed? I was raised with a purebred dog, it was rescued and had no paperwork or history but it was obvious it was that breed, we always referred to it as a purebred. My personal understanding is that for a dog to be pedigree it must have papers, if the dog is without papers but looks and acts like that breed then it is. What is the difference between purebred and pedigree? For instance if you rescue a GSD from the pound, it's obvious it's a GSD, everything screams GSD but there's no paperwork, is it therefore a crossbred because there's nothing to say it's not? Shouldn't experienced opinion be enough in some cases?

I grew up with cow dogs, it's just aterm for what they're trained to work with, sheep dogs and cows dogs, then you had stock dogs that did all kinds. -
Yes to everything above. Although I kinda really want a card from the Queen when I turn 100.

From what I understand, Purebred is a dog of a definite breed that fits a certain type. Pedigreed is a breed of dog with bloodlines and paperwork to back it up. That's my understanding anyway
