Urgent Help Needed With Agressive Young Dog
mixeduppup replied to ash1's topic in General Dog Discussion
The training method invented by Jan Fennel ("The Dog Listener"). It's based on the belief that dogs behave in the same way wolves do. but they don't... They have years/centuries of domestication -
Gorgeous dogs, are they barkers like the maremmas and pyrs?
-
Thanks everyone! Yes that's the Smith river in California, up in the Redwood forest. Just gorgeous! The 3rd one is a stream in Virginia. I have to get a better camera and go back!

About 5 months ago I had to sell a couple of my working kelpies as I had a few changes in life circumstances and a job fell through. I sold a very well bred and reg WKC pup I had which was the hardest thing I've ever done and have regretted it every day, because I ended up getting access to a property with yards and sheep and could have kept her. Well as luck would have it the guy I sold her to contacted me a few days ago and asked if I'd like to buy her back as life has changed for him and he has to cut down on young dogs. I was so shocked, I said I'd buy her back off him. I've been so happy and have cried so much over the last few days, I always felt like selling her was a mistake and now I get to have her back. I had great plans for her and now I can go through with them. Sorry just had to share as I'm completely delighted!

I think this thread should be locked. -
I did try cropping it but it took something away. Maybe I'll undo the grainy effect or make it less? It''s the old slaughterhouse in Bourke.

Nobody can say whether the dog should be rehomed or pts because no one has seen the dog or its behaviour. Let's leave it to the professional to make the assessment. Yes some pigging breeds can be DA but so can working breeds, herding breeds, hounds, toys, you name it. This dog could be aggressive and need to be pts or it could be easily fixed, the point is WE DON'T KNOW and arguing and finger pointing isn't going to solve the problem. Staffydave I would highly advise as a new member that you don't start fights or cause issues. It's not a good look. -

ANY breed is capable of this behaviour. The point is that the OP is doing the very responsible thing and having a professional come and assess the situation. Breed is very low on the list of causes IMHO. -
So I'm entering a competition in a few weeks and have three edited photos. The first category is an edited photo of anything, so I have the three to pick out of. The second is a portrait of a person, can be edited or unedited. Can you tell me which of the three you like for the edited photo and which of the two people for the portraits, please? Thank you

Urgent Help Needed With Agressive Young Dog

Just so you know I rescued a female kelpie at the start of the year. She had THE worst reactivity I had seen in a dog, anything would set her off, from a play growl to another dog barking and she'd go for the nearest dog. I worked with a trainer/behaviourist friend of my via phone as I live too far away from any behaviourist and also started getting all that excess energy and frustration out by giving her a job, she worked 5 days a week with the sheep and was utterly exhausted by the end of it. We also focused on obedience training and fixing her reactivity. Now she is an ENTIRELY different dog. You wouldn't even recognise her, everything about her has changed and she is not aggressive/reactive at all now. I've been sick for 3 weeks and she has only had 2 outings and the rest of the time has been in the house and in the yard with the other dogs and she's completely calm. What I'm saying is don't give up, listen to Jane and take on her advice, what seems hopeless now may not be as bad as you think and may have a very easy solution. Fingers and toes crossed for you. -
Yeah, definitely call the police

It allows me to post there and I am not a breeder. Just go to the main index and you'll see the list of forums. It's called "Lost and Found" Anyone can post in there. if you can't find it pm me with the details and I'll post it for you.

If you look at the list of sub forums you'll see one labeled "Lost and Found" you can put it in there. There's also a FB group for Lost and Found pets, also if you put where you're from there's bound to be someone on the forum near your area that can keep a look out and spread the word. Also if the dog is mic and reg with the local council you can register it as missing, also call up your local vet and surrounding pounds (not just in your area as people find dogs and take them to different areas and then drop them off), also lots of lost posters in your area as well as a letterbox drop. Hope that helps. Good luck in finding your dog

What kind of muzzle is it? A determined dog can easily get some types of muzzles off. Also a muzzle can heighten his frustration and a large dog like a bull arab doesn't always need its teeth to do damage. Be very careful. If you have to keep Spud locked away in a small area to protect murphy then I would suggest putting murphy in when you let spud out. I've seen dogs get out of muzzles and do a lot of damage. -
Best Way To Get Dog Hair Off The Couch!
mixeduppup replied to Squidgy's topic in General Dog Discussion
haha I just told mum about this thread and her suggestion was "Just ask guests to sit on the couch and when they leave they take the hair with them" lol -
She has been used in the paddocks and yards to bring the sheep in but she couldn't push the sheep up the shoot/race, which is pretty important in moving sheep around. The dogs run on top of the sheep and then get down and run back underneath, this pushes the sheep up the race and gets them all in, it can be anything from loading them onto a truck to lamb marking but it's pretty important to have a dog that can do it for you. OK not something the collies do here when herding the sheep into pens or trucks The Uk is very different when it comes to sheepdogs in general. In general Australian dogs have to deal with much larger amounts of sheep that are much wilder and generally bigger than European breeds so require not only different handling techniques but different breeds of dog to achieve the result. Collies are rarely used in the yards for backing, they are usually used for paddock work or there's a strain of hard biting collies used for cattle and goats. Kelpies and Koolies (or variations of) are usually used for yard work and backing as they are generally tougher than the collies and built more for that type of work (not to say that a collie can't do it, I've seen some really handy yard collies). Hope that makes sense :)

Talking about snakes. I'll never forget when I was about 12 and we lived in a country house with an old outside dunny can. Mum went in there and about 2 minutes later came running out with her pants down and a magazine in her hand, there she is running down towards the house trying to pull up her pants but for some reason not letting go of the magazine. Apparently a red bellied black snake had made it's home in the crack between the wall and the concrete and it came out to say hi. She called the SES to come get it and was like "I was on the toilet and it just appeared" They nicely came and took it away.
