Hi, I am on the Gold Coast and my pup is being flown up from Deb Lee from Deelee Lagotto`s in Victoria. Tracey Unfortunately the pup I was supposed to be getting had a stroke at 5 weeks so am now getting a brown boy from WA around 7th Sept...fingers crossed. Tracey

I have been told that if you spray the poo with eucalyptus oil mixed with water it makes them sick, but stops them eating it... I haven`t tried this personally as my pup is only 5 weeks at the moment but am trying to educate myself in anything and everything at the moment! Need to be ready for anything!!!

Fingers crossed we will be picking out puppy up from the airport in about 3 weeks time... a Lagotto Romagnolo, he is chocolate brown and will be called Enzo...can`t wait :-)

Hi, We are going to be welcoming a Lagotto pup into our home at the end of August....can you let me know if your pup was destructive... digging, chewing etc and was he very hard to train? Traceyh Hi Traceyh I noticed you hadn't had a reply so thought I'd add my 2 cents. My Lagotto is now 15 months and I've started showing her which I'm new to and obedience training (done a little but not much before). I can only speak from personal experience so others may not have had the same experience as me... Prior to Cino (yes she's a girl but DH named her ) I'd had a Golden Retriever so hugely different personalities. I've found her definitely challenging. They are extremely intelligent and can be very destructive if not entertained. Puzzles and feeding via puzzles will be your best friend. Keeping the brain occupied will help save your outdoor furniture, washing etc and Cino used to loved to garden. I'd find hundreds of dead worms all over the back pavers. Her truffle nose was working well, she was digging them up! So a designated digging area would help too. Having said that she is so awesome with my 3 year old they are best mates and now she's matured some more all of the training I've worked on over the last 12 months that I thought was a complete waste of time as she was always so hyper with an attentions span of about 9 seconds has now paid off. She picks things up really quickly. I think it was a case of her looking at me and thinking I sat once stupid I'm not doing it again! NEXT!! Look up the social group Ozgotto's on yahoo. I've recently joined them as we don't have a breed club and they have been amazingly helpful and friendly with a lot of experience amongst the members in pretty much all disciplines. Thanks becks, glad to hear I'm not the only one who thinks some things he suggests are a little extreme I got to visit Rogue's litter last week so here are some new pics of my little Rascal :laugh: It was so much fun playing with all the pups, I could have stayed there all day being chewed on She's definitely a character! Only 10 more sleeps and she'll be chewing on the rest of my shoes Can't wait :D I will post pics on here as soon as I receive some, I`m not sure when that will be at the moment because he is only 2 weeks old and I am on the Gold Coast and the breeder lives in Victoria....so am looking forward to seeing some pics myself.

Hi....I`m new to this forum, but am going to be getting a Lagotto puppy at the end of August. He is only 2 weeks old at the moment and this is the first time I have had had a puppy since living at home as a child (which is a very long time ago,) so this is a very exciting and nervous time for me as I`m new to all this. I will be watching this thread with lots of interest. Tracey

I don't know what the breed averages are for Lagottos but those scores would be acceptable, if not ideal in Border Collies, a similar size breed in Aust. A 4:6 or a 5:4 would ideally be bred to a dog with a lower score if possible but in BCs putting them together would not be considered really high risk. In the UK they would be considered fairly low scores for BCs because they get less really low scores than we do, so their breed average is a bit higher. Thank you for taking time to answer my questions.....just such a big decision, I am not looking for a show dog, just a family pet that hopefully won`t have issues with hips in future. Thank you so much for your advice....I now feel happy to go ahead and am going to call the breeder tomorrow. Thanks again. With a rare breed it is always harder to get exactly the ideal due to limited breeding choices but for a pet the odds of getting a dog with problem HD from that combination would be slim. You need scores of around 15:15 before the dog starts to be adversely affected but we try to breed from much lower scores. The scores go up to 53:53 so 6 or less for each hip is farely low. Even dogs with good scores can throw the odd really high score so there are no guarantees with hips but mid sized breeds are not particularly susceptable anyway. Good luck with your Lagotto puppy.

Thank you,.... The sire's hips are a 10 with right being total of 4 and left to talking 6, with all points being 0, 1 and 2 except for subluxation which was right hip 2 and left hip 3. The Dam's hips are a total of 9, total 5 one side and 4 the other, all points are 0, 1 or 2. Does this all sound ok to you, I was just a little concerned about the "3" in subluxation in the sire?

Hi, I am new this site, and am needing some advice on hip scores in a Lagotto. I am in contact with a breeder and the parents of her litter have hip scores of 9 and 10. The individual scores are all 1`s and 2`s with one 3 on "subtraction" on one side....does anyone know if this is a normal hip score or not??? Thanks Tracey.

Hi, I am new to this website but am looking to adopt a Lagotto pup. I would like to know if anybody has any views on crate training a Lagotto. I am concerned as I work mornings and am thinking that a crate would keep the pup safe and also not keen on my home being chewed :-) Any thoughts as to how Lagotto`s adapt to this kind of training...
