  1. We got our new 8 week old lab, Nissa yesterday. I got a phone call from my SIL today to say one of her dogs (she is looking after for a friend) has kennel cough - took her to the vet today after yesterday coughing and hacking all day. The vet advised her any dog she came in contact with within the last 10 days may possibly start to show symptoms etc and become sick.. My SIL has another dog (her own) that isnt showing signs as yet, however she is up to date with vac's where as the dog whom has the cough isnt (the owner hasnt done it) however the issue is that our 2 yr old Lab Jaffa has been in contact with both the dogs in the past week, they play at the local dog park together regularly.... Jaffa hasnt showed any signs but is also up to date with his vac's however obviously Nissa isnt, she hasnt met the other dog but is obviously in close quarters with jaffa .... Any info?? should i be worried?? She has a vet check booked for next Tuesday night. Should I be worried about Jaffa? He seems perfectly nice too... happy, energetic, eating well etc.. no cough..
  2. Can you please link me to this page?? I cant find it would love to see it!
  3. Thank you all so much for your replies.. I knew I'd find a weath of knowledge here!!! Jaffa has had alot to do with other dogs/puppies.. Our street alone has 4 labs, a collie, a husky & 2 small cross breed dogs that he has known since he came home.. He is always very welcoming to new dogs, when we visit the dog park he is very submissive he will not in any way fight or bark/growl/get agressive if dogs come up at him and try to start anything... he has actually run away from 4 dogs at the park last week and started growling etc at him he ran back to me lol at my office (we run a family business) he interacts with my parents 14yr old shih tzu and the neighbours collie who is a pup too... he is very social and happy. he has never been involved in a skuffle and is the first one to back down... we have a laundry that is still fairly centred to the down stairs part of the house (dogs dont go upstairs) so we can use that as her 'alone area' with a gate on it for cut off so she can even sleep in there at night if need be and maybe i'll put a rug down for jaffa if he wants to stay near her? do u think thats a good idea??? Hopefully the meet goes well, he smelt her on us last night when we came home, and was very interested so maybe thats a good sign?????? We havent made a final call on the name, however the 2nd i held her I thought 'Nissa' but hubby hasnt agreed or disagreed with it yet so who knows lol I'll be reading this all day to see any more comments, i welcome them all... :) thanks guys Ps - Def put up pics :D tomrrow!!!
  4. Hello All We have a gorgeous nearlly 2 yr old male desexed chocolate labrador named Jaffa whom is such a special man in our lives. He is our shaddow, he comes to work with me in the car, drops the kids at school and apart from grocery shopping lol spends 95% of his time with us.. We have arranged to buy a yellow 8 week old girl and are picking her up tonight (i know i should have asked his ALOT sooner!!) and wanted to know if there is a good way to introduce them?? Jaffa is so chilled, isnt overly energetic, though he LOVES playing, is sweet natured and is an all round lovely Lab (as they all are) but I want to make sure we are being safe and also making sure he isnt distressed about the new arrival. They will both come to work with me for the first little while until the puppy is big enough to start being left at home with him without much fuss.. Jaffa has his own bed on the floor in the lounge room and we will give her one in there too.. what are your suggestions regarding food & water bowl placement etc? The dogs will have use of the doggy door so can go inside & out as they please. Any help is appreciated I want to make this a smooth and stress free as possible transition for everyone.. NOTE: We have 2 children whom are amazing with Jaffa.. our son & jaffa have bonded like nothing i have ever seen before so I think they will be just as great with the new dog..
