  1. I'm assuming it is more of a trial and error process when deciding what your dog does best on? That actually seems like quite a little for a sled dog, but I guess if shes gaining weight then yeah.. Vet set I needed to up my husky's intake by just a small amount. Although mine is no racing sled dog :) Would you say when trying out new brands of dog food that you would buy the lowest portion possible and take notes over the weeks how it goes with the dog? If that's the case then for now I'll probably buy a 1.8kg Artemis to try out.
  2. So I've almost run out of my current dry food, it was something a sibling bought and want to see how those premium brands fair against that one. I have been reading over the forums about the most popular ones but cant seem to decide which one is best.. I have got a Siberian Husky that is almost 3, we fed him on BH for a while but I've read that their quality has been dropping lately so have decided against that. I'm looking for a slightly larger kibble as I have had problems in the past with birds eating the dry food and my dog has no incentive to go after them. So I think getting larger kibble would be better. But if not then I'll do more research. Husky only eats one meal of dry food in the morning and at night eats about 500g of chicken breast so plenty of protein (hopefully not too much!). I live in Melbourne so the brands that are probably the best to get in terms of distance is either Artemis (fresh mix adult) or Canidae (grain free pure elements, are there any bad notes i should know of those brands? I have heard about the VIP Natures goodness from woolworths which is also cheap(something I'm trying to factor in), the recent thread had people raving about it but the older thread had people saying how it's bad that it contains many fillers and doesn't specify what type of meat meal is in it. But if people are still saying yes to it, I could try that for now? So out of those (Artemis, Canidae, VIP, OR RoyalCanin) are there any others (or those) that best fit my criteria in terms of price, health and size? Thank you for your help. :)
  3. Hey Lolafolata, Yeah I was just afraid that maybe the dog was just going to gobble it down instead of chewing, my dog also used to be on Advance haha. Although he did learn to chew the larger kibble I guess he'll just get used to the smaller kibble soon since I didn't introduce him to it and changed it straight away. :/ He seems to really like BH but the birds like it too, since it's smaller it's easier for the birds to eat (compared to Advance), and my dog is not interested in them, they happen to be Common Myna's (apparantly really territorial) which is pretty annoying so I just feed what he eats and put the rest back. I am also interested in a chicken variety. :D
  4. Thank you Emma, I live close to there, although I already bought a bag I'll be sure to remember this place when my current one runs out. :) I only seem to have those rice cups and not an actual cup.. Don't seem to have scales anywhere :/ Also with my Husky, just wondering if the size of BH (pellets) is good/bad for a medium sized dog? As he used to eat those larger sized kibble.
  5. Yes, I guess I will be doing the pre-anaesthetic blood testing too, however since he is a male I probably wont get the IV drip, they do charge and extra $80 per blood test/IV. Are there any downsides to desexing a dog? As in, are there any reasons to NOT neuter the dog?
  6. Hello, just wanted peoples opinions on whether I should neuter my just 2 year old Husky. I honestly wasn't considering it at first, however I think it is in our best interest to neuter the dog. I went to my local vet the other day and they offered/insisted that my dog should have Pre-anaesthetic blood testing and IV Fluid Therapy for an additional cost (Of course). They only said that was because my dog would be doing it at an older age than most people. What are everyone's thoughts? Should I go along with the pre/post test?
  7. Haha thank you so much and thanks for the info! Just to add on the my previous question I did some research and the cheapest website was k9softdogcrates, however pawsforlife is cheaper with the auto-delivery, has anyone tried that yet? It says you can order with that, get 15%+ off and cancel anytime but just wondering if anyone has canceled after the first order. Thanks. Edit: happypetsupplies have also said to match any competitors price. Sorry for seeming cheap but who doesn't want to get the best price? :)
  8. A quick question, I have a 2 year old Husky, the current kibble I'm feeding him is almost gone and just want to try something different/better quality kibble for a change. Can anyone vouch for the online/retailers based around Melbourne? (Cheap price/quick delivery) There has probably been some discussion however it has been 100+ pages.
