  1. Only yesterday I had one of my GSD's at the vet and they had trouble finding the chip, eventually they did and it is down low under the shoulder. Another of my GSD's has one low on his rib cage. So that is two out of three that have moved significantly. I agree with Wundahoo that they should be checked regularly. Very unlikely mine will ever end up in the pound but how hard to they check for chips??
  2. Rupee Tackles Everest Hi, Nice little story about a dog rescued from certain death who goes on to climb Mt Everest :)
  3. Loving all the photos :) One in the bedroom, three in the rompus room in their crates. I have tried to let them sleep where they want but they end up playing chase or play fighting about 5am which is way too early. If I lived alone they would all be inside on my bed (not sure where I would sleep though)
  4. Dogs are not meant to all hang out and run and play together.... not directed at Simply Grand but so many people think that dogs need to do this. They do not, they need to socialise within their pack, be it the kids, the rabbit or the cat. Taking a dog to the dog park is putting it in harms way as there is always an idiot with a dog aggressive dog who thinks that it is his or her right to run their dog off lead because the sign says so. (Not saying all dog aggressive dog owners do this or are irresponsible).
  5. I am not sure if it was a dog park or not but places with lots of dogs are accidents waiting to happen. Take Sax to a place where other dogs are not. I have GSD's 3 of them and would never take them to a dog park, they run off lead at places I will not run into other dogs, and if I do see another dog by chance, they have a great recall so I just put them on a lead till we pass. Dog parks = danger for both big and little dogs, unless you know the dogs frequenting at the time you go there.
  6. No Sorry no way could I kill one of my dogs, let alone eat it. Call me an idiot but I would rather die with my dog. Although I would not be dumb enough to get myself into the situation this fool did.....
  7. Do you know it was the cheapest puppy in the shop, they went up to $4 or $4.5k!!!!!!!!!! I often hear people say yes my x whatever has papers, it has papers alright, vaccination and microchip papers. Education needs to start with primary school kids. The DPI run the responsible pet ownership program and seem to go to most schools, not sure if it is included in their program but it sure as hell should be... Watching it like a hawk for parvo, believe me, it has had two shots so fingers crossed....
  8. Long story short but I ended up going to a pet shop today to pick up a puppy a lady purchased because she did not want it to be left alone in the glass box. With the help of a rescue group, she will find a wonderful forever home and is currently sleeping safely in her crate. Before anyone lambasts anyone, the ladies heart was in the right place, doesn't help the cause I know... I have never purchased a puppy from a pet shop but listening to the rubbish the sales people were sprouting made me feel even sicker than I already did being there. They started to give me the run down on how to care for the puppy, feed it twice a day...what the...twice a day, I told her I didn't need 'educating' as I knew what to do and couldn't wait to get out of there. For me, the most mind blowing thing was the price $1200 for a tri crossed pup!!! The place was packed....
  9. Hi, Sorry to hear about your bad experience, it is annoying when people don't have control of their dogs. If it was me I would get him back around other dogs you know are ok ASAP, and be careful not to be anxious when doing it. Get him to see that is a rare incident as opposed to the norm. Go back to the same spot too. Good Luck :)
  10. I am sure there are sometimes legit reasons for surrendering a pet, but the oldies just break my heart....
  11. Peace for you both when her time comes, I too have followed the journey of Roo, she is lucky to have had you in her life. You have tried everything and are now going to make the ultimate sacrifice, putting Roo first, before you and your heartache. I love the photo, it tells such a story without any words....
  12. Lots of people who can relate to this story, both sides. I am on the side of the writer as I am sure most DOLers are. http://www.lifewithdogs.tv/2013/09/an-open-letter-to-the-person-who-left-this-sweet-dog-at-the-kill-shelter/
  13. Looks great, best chance of her forever home
  14. Dog Laws are written by idiots with an agenda, an agenda to get themselves where they want to be............... popular. When oh when are they going to consult with people in the know..... Annoys the S&*T out of me.........
  15. This legislation is in Victoria already and the fall out is not good. Large dogs being declared dangerous (which often results in being PTS due to the requirement of owning one) after a little dog runs up to it and threatens it and its owner with barking, growling and lunging. Big dog defends itself and causes injury to the little dog = Big dog declared dangerous. Little dogs need to be taught how to behave just the same as big dogs. The average pet owner has no idea how this can effect their dogs. People think, oh great this will ensure dogs that hurt people a are PTS. What the council look at is the damage done, not the circumstance. People do not know how to defend allegations and end up dropping their dog and themselves in a black hole.
  16. Agreed Mita. "...it still had a heavy duty chain around its neck" Say it all really, doesn't it. Stupid people treat animals abhorrently and the poor dog just does not know how to behave. Owner should be arrested.

  18. That's great Nekhbet, the post about her came up on my FB page and I know they need the right type of owner, hence I put it up here. Guess you know where she is so I will leave it with you if that is ok??
  19. Hi, I know there are some Malinois enthusiasts on here so I thought I'd bring her to your attention. :) URGENT - NIKKI NEEDS YOU NOW! (VIC) Nikki the 4 year old Belgian Malinois is desperate to find her new family. She's been waiting too long and deserves a home to call her own. She will reward you with such loyalty and affection. Nikki loves her walks and thrives on learning new tricks. She is very well behaved in the house and loves to rest her head on your lap. Nikki's new home will allow her to be the only canine as she's too anxious around other dogs. She's yet to meet a cat but we'd prefer her home was cat free due to this. Her ideal home would be either a couple without children or a retired couple or as a companion for a sole person. She loves to be by your side. If you have space in your life to love Nikki then please contact Halfway Home via email [email protected] for more information.
