Hi DOLers, Looking for anyone who can shed some more light on the American Bulldog as bred here in OZ atm. I have been doing some research into the American Bulldog and some of the information I have been reading says that both Johnson and Scott bred their respective lines with American Pitbull Terriors (amoungst others) to ensure the breeds continuation. They were registered as American Pit Bulldogs but the name was changed to differentiate it from the American Pit Bull. Any good places I can look to dig further? many thanks :)

Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...

It's a groyed, a new breed about to be listed.... that's what the breeder said... -
I would suggest that any trainer going into someones home to conduct training with a dog that they had never met, knowing it made a habit of getting in visitors space (with no previous consequences), being careful and observant would be a matter of course. It goes with the territory you would think. As far as inadvertently creating the situation, knowing the trainer as I do, I doubt if actions were made that would have set the dog off but even if they did (subconsciously as you suggested), my god, for a dog to attack, shake, try to drag a person to the ground, let go then attack the torso again still trying to drag a person to the ground, that's just way too scary.... Perhaps it was mentally ill.... will never know... Agree with the rest of your post, certainly couldn't hurt...

I have had a few dogs on it over the years and yes it made a big difference. I use to do a course of four with one dog about every 6 months. With another he was on a course of 4 over the cooler months and then went to a monthly top up after an initial dose of 4 until he sadly died. About $33 per shot was the last price I paid.

I have kids so when I worm them the packet suggests that everyone in the family as a dose. Any excuse for chocolate I say

Ponderosa Pet Resort In Oaklands Junction Vic

Oh, that doesn't sound good... I have suggested she go an check it out for herself. She doesn't have any other options unfortunately. thanks for your feedback divinemissmillie, much appreciated :) -
Hi, I have a Stag hound x Staf in my care atm and whilst she was playing chase with my dogs, she either copped a minor bite or scratched herself on the hedge as they run in, out and through it. It was quarter the size of a 5 cent piece 3 days ago and drying up when I noticed it (would not have been more than 24 hours old). She is licking at it on and off and it is now the size of a 10 cent piece, raw and open. I have been putting betadine on it (undiluted) and giving her cephalexin tablets twice a day. (I had these left over from a dog I treated recently who had an infection due to an ingrown dew claw.) Should I take her to the vet? My feeling is that they will do nothing different except maybe put a bucket on her head to stop her licking it. Any thoughts/advice? many thanks in advance :) It has broken through the skin, there is no depth to it.

Melzalwela my friend, who is an extremely competent and switched on dog trainer was attacked recently as a training session was about to start. This trainer was watching this dog like a hawk and said there were no signs whatsoever, nothing and I believe what was said and have seen the horrific scars. The owners were in total disbelief that their dog would behave like this. Have you been given warning signs by this breed and avoided being attacked? What where the signs? Have you witnessed the signs prior to an attack on some one else? To the untrained eye subtle things would not be noticed, even bleeding obvious things people seem to miss. Researching the breed does suggest that it gives no warning signs either. Maybe some do, but the point I am making is that some don't. The one who attacked my friend didn't and as far as the dog was concerned it was just some one who was in it owners home, had been for about 15 minutes before it came in to say hi. Could have been anyone they invited to their home. If it was not the trainer who remained calm as possible but a child, that child would be dead! Just to be clear I am not saying ALL of this breed are like this and do not agree with BSL.

Hi, Has anyone used Ponderosa Pet Resort in oaklands junction before, can you provide any feed back? PM if you feel more comfortable. Friend is desperate to find accommodation for her two dogs next week as her usual boarding place has had to cancel due to extenuating circumstances. many thanks :)

I have met some beautiful, gentle Amstafs and Pits and don't think BSL is the answer. Destroying innocent pets is wrong, very wrong. However, what I find difficult is that these breeds or this breed, depending on how you look at it, does not behave the way other breeds do, namely they give no warning signs before attacking. Not saying that they all attack but if they do - no growl, no smiling, no stiffening of the front legs or body, or hackles raised, no change in body language whatsoever. Scarey, scary stuff..... Maybe phase the breed out and only licensed people should be allowed to own one. Another can of worms I know, all people should have a license to own a dog but that is another story (like we want the Govt to control anything else in our lives). It is so hard as there will always be those bstrd pigs that want them to fight each other and it will go underground like it used to be. That IS what they were bred for in the first place. I don't have the answers, I wish I did.... the bad ones are just so very bad.......

3yo Jack Russell X Male Needs Help
Tazar replied to Raelene's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Hi, What a cutie. Not sure how to PM.... How big is your sisters dog? Wondering if big dogs would be more intimidating.... I am looking for another small pooch to add to my 'pack' of a couple of GSD's both male and a cav female. The cav lives inside and the GSD's outside (except for 3-4 hours at night). thanks -

Dog Boarding And Obedience Training
Tazar replied to tixx's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Pity you are not in Melbourne.... Boarding and training does work well as long as there is a proper handover back to the owner. This means the trainer taking the dog back to its owners home and spending 2-4 hours explaining the methods used and what the owner needs to do to maintain what has been taught. It takes about 12 months to train a dog, IMO, so the owner MUST be committed to continuing the training or they are wasting their money. I'm sure some one will be along soon with some recommendations in Sydney. Good Luck :) -
German Shepherd Locked In Bird Cage & Dumped

How anyone could do this to a dog is beyond me I hope they catch the bstd, and throw the book at him (although I'd much prefer bricks). I wonder if we will hear what happens to this poor poochie -
Love the bed Tic posted with the stairs, if only I had room for 3 big enough for GSD's

What Dry Food Would You Recommend?
Tazar replied to rusty&biscuit's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi mahalia's mum, Well so far so very, very good with TOTW . Sonny is doing so well on it & his coat is gleaming. Lots happier in himself as well & he loves the taste which is a bonus as he is a real big Mr. fussy pants with his dry food. I am paying delivered to the door around $100 for a 13.6 kg bag from Natural Pet Store. I so highly recommend them. Their customer service & price are second to none. Was doing my head in trying to work out which one would be suitable for Sonny to try (there are so many choices) & they were kind enough to send me samples of a few different sorts. $5 to deliver & 2 days it's at our front door & I live well outside Sydney CBD. -
Poor Cookie, can't stop crying...so sad... You are an angel K9angel, bless. I believe in karma, just wait you lowlife bstrd, no one will be there to nurse you when it is your turn....scum...

Why Would A Full Grown Dog Attack A Puppy?
Tazar replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
I agree 100% thundercat but unfortunately there are so many owners who don't have control of their dogs, and those who don't care that their dog is dog agressive and have as much right to be there as anyone else. This IMHO is a receipe for disaster....
