So heard back from the council today and they didn't get out there till this morning so of course some had been sold so they met the DPI standards. They are going to monitor the shop though, a few surprise visits..... So if you are in the area and see too many pups in the window, take some photo's and call the council.

Drooling After Anaesthetic? - Update, Rip My Little Man
Tazar replied to kiwioz's topic in General Dog Discussion
So very sorry to hear of your loss -
Hope not, they can be more difficult to train when they are soooooo smart!

Thanks for the tips Tazar, I was thinking about putting in a roll up window on the roof as well, I know plenty of soft crates that come with those, might come in handy. Learned to unzip it at 13 weeks! What a clever pup! :D Yep he did, using his teeth, then he would put his paw through to open it the rest of the way, I would find him asleep next to my bed. I put little padlocks on it for a while before I went to metal. If his metal crate is closed (not locked) and he wants to get in he hits it hard with his paw and hey presto it opens. He pulls it closed behind him too. The other GSD just stands there clueless  He is too clever!!

I see no issues with crate training with a covered crate, except you can't drop tid bits down the back with it on. Nothing stopping you throwing them through the door though. I don't think the colour matters and you could alway put roll up window type covers on it if you wanted more light inside. I made the mistake of buying a soft crate for my GSD and by 13 weeks he worked out how to unzip it! I now have metal ones, ugly yes, but purchased weatherproof covers on ebay a while back as it gets cold and windy in the winter. It has a see through front which has cracked but I will fix it, somehow, soon. The only downside is that they are bright blue. I think they were @$25 each on special. Those ones in your link are very attractive!

Agree with you on every point :)

I reported it today to the relevant authorities first thing this morning. One of them were going to conduct an inspection today. Fingers crossed but that particular authority said they knew of the shop and would call me back on Monday. On the down side I was told that they would need to reread the Pet Shop Guidelines about required space, on the upside I was told that puppies being sold from pet shops have dropped considerably... Anyway I am hoping that if there are lots of people who do the same, then they may just give up.... one can only dream..

Actually DPI states "Where possible, puppies and kittens from different sources should be housed separately to reduce the spread of contagious diseases." It is not possible as the pet shop will loose money! So they are allowed to be together, still following up on the overcrowding though...

oh minimiss how sad

I was jumping up and down about the amount of puppies at the pet shop and have discovered through posting, thanks to another member , that mixed breeds are not allowed in the same glass box so will be taking pictures tomorrow and contacting the council. So I do not regret starting a pet shop thread but never meant to offend anyone either :)

Yes minimax, dogs get real homes from places other than here. I guess I am thinking more exposure, that's all. There are a lot of anonymous or guest users that get on here too. Haredown I was perhaps suggesting a more appropriate place to post the FTGH, so that people who are not comfortable about it don't have to look at it. Certainly was not trying to put pressure on anyone. Again, thinking anonymous or guest users.

meh... if a ftgh gets a real home as a result of being posted on here then I think that is a good thing. Maybe posts should go in Rescue, just a thought. It is, however, my choice to read the topic, I don't have to....

The pet shop is on the second level right abpve the main stage. The ANZ bank has just moved next door. The shaver shop is on the other side (I think it is still there, can't say I noticed today though) then Toys R Us is just round the corner. Still

What an appalling site to see this morning, four glass boxes in the window of the new pet shop: Box 1 7-8 something x poodle Box 2 7-8 Golden Retrievers Box 3 3-4 Huskies (around 10-12 weeks old at a guess) plus 2-3 of another breed Box 4 7-8 of lots of different breeds Over crowding to the max. I spoke to a lady out the front who said she went in to ask about the GR's and they had no papers which was no surprise to me as a reputable breeder would never do this. Another lady at the bank said the police had come in yesterday as someone had complained. I walked in and was telling my 5 year old in a very loud voice about puppy farmers and that this is so wrong that these puppies are here and the owners of the shop should be ashamed of themselves. No-one challenged me which is probably a good thing as my blood was boiling. I couldn't get out of the shopping centre quick enough and I am still so angry.... :mad :mad

Did I Do Something Wrong In This Situation?
Tazar replied to Leelaa17's topic in General Dog Discussion
Glad to hear nothing bad happened. I have a couple of GSD's too and whilst they are well trained, you just never know what is around the corner so I always walk them on black dog head halti's. I have found them far superior to anything else on the market and you can order them online. Some training would certainly help too. Good Luck :) -
Thanks Piper. All done :0) And thanks SecretKai for posting :)

Hi, Probably something I am doing wrong, but I am not getting the discount for purchasing 4? Any ideas? thanks

Warning To Anyone Who Goes To St Ives Showground
Tazar replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
What a dreadful experience for you all. I hope Riddick is ok and does not suffer any other effects. Good on you for reporting him, it is people like him who give dog owners and dogs a bad name.. -
WOW pretty extreme behaviour. If it was me, I would get a good quality, strong crate. Wire it up so that it won't collapse, or even get a steel one. It is critical that you train him properly so that it becomes his safe place. Keep the desensitization going and even consider a dog safe electric collar/fence. Get the dog to spend time alone outside when you are home. Have other members of the family feed/walk/play with him so that his focus is moved away from you. At the end of the day there is no one answer, like people all dogs are different. Unfortunately I think you have your work cut out for you.... Good luck and I hope the above helps :)

So many wonderful memories of my dogs. When we would go camping I would pick up a small rock and throw it in the creek, my bear would leap off a 3 metre bank and duck dive, be down there for 2 minutes at least and come up with the rock I had thrown. At night he would be exhausted and sleep in front of my chair by the camp fire with steam coming off his body as it dried. We would hop in the tent together and he would be my electric blanket. RIP my beautiful bear, gone but never ever ever forgotten

"He's been seen asleep with the dogs...I don't care about the dogs, they can go to the pound for all I care. As long as my Riley comes home." I am not sure how else to read this except she doesn't give a rats about her dogs. Different people I guess. If my child and dogs were missing I would be worried to death about them all. Glad the child was found safe and I hope the dogs are back home too.

Ye they did, a lot in just a few minutes, very upsetting, killing some whilst the previous poor dead one was beside it.
