I am needing to put my little furbaby in a Boarding Kennel for a couple of nights later this year. Are there any boarding Kennels that you have taken your dog to and highly recommend? Preferably in the Western Sydney area but will be happy to travel anywhere in Sydney if it was a really good kennel. I would even go up the mountains as far as Katoomba or even up the coast (maybe Central coast?). I want to know that she will be well taken care of and am a bit nervous about leaving her with someone else but is unavoidable as we are attending the wedding of very close friends and need to travel away for a few days to attend and have no one to puppy sit her because everyone that would puppy sit is also attending this wedding!

Same, my Ruby is scared of her harness… she is fine once its on and we are walking but the moment I pick it up to go for a walk she runs away from me and doesn’t come near me, even if I have her favourite treats (and she is very food motivated!). We had had her since a pup so I know she has never ever been abused in any way. She is also terrified of the blinds but I know why. When she was 8.5 weeks, she was playing with a bouncy ball inside and the ball went behind the blinds, she went in to get it and got tangled in the blinds. She totally panicked which made things worse because she barked and tried to get out quickly but took some of the blinds with her. It didn’t hurt her at all, she just freaked herself out. Now if her ball goes under the blinds, she will stand there until I get it out for her. Also – on the topic of remote controls – Ruby lays on a cushion at our feet while we sit on the couch to watch tv, once the remote accidentally fell off the lounge and plonked right on her head! WOOPS! She didn’t notice with her tough bulldog head, she just looked at me like I was weird when I freaked out thinking she was hurt. But maybe something similar happened to your boy? Either way, poor thing! Glad he is feeling better today!

A Most Disgusting Conversation Overheard
Sares replied to Christina's topic in General Dog Discussion
Agreed! When I went through a very difficult break up with someone who I had been with for many years and was my first love, my bond with my Rotti became so much stronger because he was the one that made me smile when I got home from work, I wasn’t alone because of him and being a Rotti, he was the perfect size for big bear hugs when I needed them. He was my rock in that time and don’t think I could have coped like I did without him. RIP Jake! -
Whenever i read it, I just keep picturing a French Bulldog because of the Batdog references.. hehe

We go to Nepean Animal hospital in Penrith. We only started going there since we got Ruby a couple of months ago and so far they have been really good!

thats part the reason I decided to crate train my dog. She was spayed a few weeks ago and the vet said she was so good after her surgery. Also if anything were to happen to her and she needed strict rest, there is not way I could keep her quiet and calm without the crate. So I wanted her to be used to it just in case I ever had to put her on crate rest. Another good thing we found out it was handy is she was being puppy-sat by friends for a few nights and they found it handy to have the crate so that the older dogs that she was staying with could get some rest as she is still a puppy and was always harrassing the older dogs to play with her. My dog is hardly ever locked in her crate, it sits in our loungeroom with the door open for her to lie in it whenever she wants. We only close the door on the odd occasion for her saftey (eg- workmen working on parts of the house). I think crates are great, when used for the right reasons and not being over-used.

Thank you for explaining that! I always pass someone walking their greyhounds in the mornings and they look so sweet so I always wondered why they had the muzzles on. -

 I relate to this so much!! the amount of people who's face drop when we say "yep she is desexed" (with a large smile) people are stupid! A lady came up to me when I had my Frenchie with me and said she’s a gorgeous puppy, am I going to breed her? I said No She said – awww why not, you need to let her have at least 1 litter I said – no I don’t, I don’t want her to have puppies She looked at me like I was crazy that I didn’t want my dog to have puppies.. SHEESH! I was so angry because its people like her that breed dogs for the sake of it or for the money. sorry a bit off topic there. well maybe not - its the misconception with ANY breed that bitches need to have at least one litter before getting de-sexed. -

To all the greyhound peeps.. Please excuse my ignorance, I have always wondered why greyhounds wear muzzles when they are being walked? Can anyone give a brief explanation please? -

Temperament! They are not vicious dogs, and they will not "turn on you" when they become an adult. I agree with this! I had a beautifully gentle Rotti for 12 years and often was asked if he was viscious. -

My French Bulldog is black with bits of white around her neck and so I always get asked if she is a Boston Terrier even though she is quite a bit stocker than a Boston.. -
Be careful of duck poos it can carry some nasties. Ohhh thats good to know because Ruby always tries to eat the duck poo at the football field we take her to for her to run around. We try to stop her when she eats it but she can be sneaky and eat it before we can stop her.

I live on a farm & I know your frustration. There is a guy some 3 kilometers from us who "breeds" bull x things. I think he & his neighbour may be into the dog fighting business...we know they are into growing & manufacturing drugs & occasionally the police raid them, take them away then let them go We have been visited by their dogs as they are so massive they break their chains or chew through their ropes & go wandering. However, there is a school of thought around here that you don't warn the owners about shooting their dogs, you just do it & the dog disappears. A neighbour learnt the hard way, he warned the blokes about their dogs chasing his stock. They did nothing about it, so he shot one of the dogs then the owner belted him over the head with a piece of 4 x 2 & almost killed him I feel sorry for the dogs, but what do you do, to protect your own dogs, livestock & children. Gosh, I hope after attempting to murder your neighbour that bloke finally got locked up? Nope ....cause the neighbour had things to hide as well, though not dog related Oh the joys of living in the bush...a shame, but you soon learn to keep to yourself. Not like it was 30 years ago when we first moved here & everybody got to know everyone & mostly we got on. I think "the bush" is becoming more & more attractive for these ferel types to come & set up camp. After all, they have thousands of acres of bush to do their thing in. Police helicopters are the norm, but strangly no-one seems to get locked up for long. Then again, it is probably safer than living in Western Sydney, going by what you see on the news. Not all Western Sydney is bad and dangerous to live in.. There are nice parts too..

aahhhh thank you!
